EBSARY, James Albert (Jim) – passed peacefully away at the age of 61 at St. Clare's Hospital on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, in the presence of his loving family. Predeceased by parents Mary and William James Ebsary, sister Shirley and partner Eileen Jesseau. Left with fond and loving memories, daughters: Doreen (Dave Tancock), Mary Jane (Mike Earles), Linda (Barry Oliver) and Jamie (Sean Leonard); grandchildren: Ashley, Nicole, Michael, Matthew, Shane, Jennifer, Katherine (Kaylee), Brittany and Megan; great-grandson Kobe; sister Linda (Frank Murphy); brother: Dave (Brenda); nephew Eric; nieces Glenys, Brenda and families; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Tuesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral service on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 10 a.m. from Caul’s Chapel. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted.

EVANS, Beatrice (Nee Thistle) – Passed away suddenly but peacefully at Meadow Creek Retirement Manor on Monday, October 8, 2007, Beatrice Evans, aged 93 years. Predeceased by husband Frank (1998), grandson W.O. Richard Nolan (2006); sisters: Dolly Maloney and May Evans and brother William Thistle. Left with fond and loving memories her children: Patsy (Ron) Bavis, special daughter Betty, Maureen Nolan, Richard (Liz), Gerald (Patsy), and Geraldine (Gord) Stockley; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; sister Hilda Murphy; sister-in-law Mary Thistle; special friend and staff of Meadow Creek Manor; other relatives and a large circle of friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 1081 Topsail Road on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held from Mary Queen Of The World Church on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Beatrice’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.

SMITH, Rita Susannah (nee Button) – Passed peacefully away at her residence on Sunday, October 7, 2007, in the presence of her devoted family, Rita Smith aged 88 years. Predeceased by her loving husband: Chesley (1978); parents: Jacob and Susan Button; brothers: Clarence, Edgar and Ellis; sisters: Doris Button and Margaret Andrews; nieces: Ruth May, June Fairley and nephew: Lloyd Andrews. Leaving to mourn are her children: Sandra (Bob Francis), grandchildren: Joanne and Jason, Truro, Nova Scotia, Judy (John Hayes), Wayne (Dianne), grandchildren: Kimberley, Jonathan and Gregory, Mt. Pearl, Cynthia (Russell Upshall), grandchildren: Krista and Ryan (Jenny Hillier) Salt Pond, Burin; sister-in-law: Emma Button, Betty Smith and Elizabeth Cranford. Special friends and caregivers Minnie, Marjorie, Wanda and Todd who saw it through to the end. As well as a large number of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. on Monday from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday from 10-12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10-12 noon. Funeral Services to be held at Barrett’s Chapel on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of one’s choice.

STOYLES, Wm. Kenneth (Bill) – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Center on October 8, 2007 at the age of 88. Predeceased by wives Rose (Best) and Dorothy (Arns), parents Jordan and Ida Stoyles, brother Eric and sister Phoebe Blanche. Leaving to mourn is his son Gary and wife Jeannette; three grandchildren: Tina, Tammy and Glen; also one sister Ada Balkema (Roger Imbler) residing in Reedsport, Oregon, US. Also a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Tuesday 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 11, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from The Carnell Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Bill’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

SWEENEY, Selina M. (nee Brewer) – It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a dear wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Selina Sweeney, age 66 years, at the Placentia Health Centre on Tuesday, October 9, 2007. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Agnes Brewer and father-in-law Patrick Sweeney. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 47 years, Leonard; a very special mother-in-law Ann (Nanny); daughters: Marion King (Kenneth), Agnes King (Dave), Diane Mayer (Duane); sons: Leonard, Kenneth (Leone), Albert (Lana); thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers: Pat Brewer (Lilian), Jerome Brewer (Mary Agnes) and sister Jenevieve Hepditch (Pat); brothers-in-law Dan Sweeney, Ted Sweeney (Marie) and Ronnie Sweeney (Shirley); sisters-in-law: Eliza Martin (Pad), Mary Barron (Billy), Hilda Whittle (Joe), Ann Sweeney (Peter), Linda Murphy (Jim) and a very special friend Aunt Kay. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home on Wednesday 4-10 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia, 11 a.m. on Friday, October 12th. Interment to follow at Coombs Memorial Cemetery, Southeast. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

HEPDITCH, Mary Maude (nee Ryan) – Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, Maude Hepditch in her 88th year of Avondale. Predeceased by her husband John (1996); her infant daughter Theresa; her granddaughter Stephanie Kieley (1982) . Left with fond and loving memories are her daughters: Mary McCarthy, Mt. Pearl, Marguerite Kieley, Holyrood, Carmel Jackson (William), Branford, ON; sons: Ron, Conception Hr., Don, Avondale, Brendan, Toronto, Martin (Ollie), Avondale, Derm, Mt. Pearl, Jack (Nancy), St. Albert’s, AB; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Ryan; also a number of nieces and nephews and a large circle of extended family and friends, including the residents and staff of Escasoni. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2007 with Mass of Christian Burial from Assumption Church, Avondale. Interment will be in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Placentia.

SQUIRES, Jean Olive – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, October 14, 2007, age 64 years. Predeceased by her husband, Douglas and son Douglas. Leaving to mourn her sons: Danny (Rhonda), Eric (Rachael); daughters: Tammy (Dave) and Elsie; granddaughters: Krista Butler, Danielle Butler and Laura Squires; grandson Colin Squires; sisters: Stella Chafe (Jim) and Frances Arnes (Nick); brother-in-law John Squires (Joanne); sisters-in-law: Betty Hartery, Wanda Walsh (Eddie), Isabelle Snow and Olive Hollett; seven nieces, ten nephews, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends, especially her fellow card players. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Tuesday from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. John Bosco Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Vera Perlin Society.

KAVANAGH, Frances – Passed peacefully away at her residence in Clarke’s Beach on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, aged 77 years. Frances Kavanagh, one of 13 children (9 sisters and 3 brothers) of the late Cyril and Sarah Reid (nee Hawe) . Predeceased by her late husband, Patrick Joseph Kavanagh. Leaving to mourn one son, James Patrick; seven daughters: Margaret Brenda (Raymond) Best, Stella Patricia (Paul) McCarthy, Madonna (Kenneth) Greene, Christine (Nelson) Bradbury, Sarah Veronica Kavanagh, Jacqueline Agnes (Ross) Branston, Patsy Collette (Darrel) Evely; eight grandchildren: Jonathan, Frances, Jessica, Megan, Stephen, Dustin, Andrew, Zackary; lifelong friend, Sheila Rogan; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Moore’s Funeral Home, Clarke’s Beach. Visitation Wednesday 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.; Thursday 10 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral service to take place on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. from All Hallows Roman Catholic Church, North River. Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, North River. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke or the Kidney Foundation.

KENNEDY, Eric Cyris – Passed peacefully away on Monday, October 9, 2007, age 77 years, of Kelligrews. Predeceased by wife Dora (1999) . Left with fond and loving memories, son Fred (Susan); grandchildren: Madeline and Charlie; brother, sisters and other relatives and friends. No visitation at his request. Funeral service on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Upper Gullies. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery, Upper Gullies.
