HORECKA, Daniel James – Dec. 9, 1932 – Oct. 6, 2007. Age 74 years. Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Saturday Oct. 6, 2007. Leaving to mourn his loving wife and best friend Marion; daughters Mary Kearsey (Larry), Bradford, ON, Debbie (Adams) Gollop (Calvin, his best buddy and good friend) and Phyllis Clancey (Charlie Power); son Bernard Clancey (Madeline O’Rouke), Etobicoke ON; his children in the U.S.A. John, Donald, Robert and Pat; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his transportation friend Bill Bragg, Goulds. At Daniel’s request cremation has taken place with no funeral service.
KOEHLER, Wayne Edward – Died suddenly at Bell Island in his 61st year on Oct. 5, 2007. Formerly of Cambridge, Ontario. Beloved husband of Julie (Did Dwyer) . Loving father of Daniel and Donald. Loving step-father of Joanne Wheaton and Alison Lane (Mike) . Beloved poppy to Jade, Noah and Ethan. Brothers: Larry (Kathy), Rick (Pauline), Gerry and Jim Koehler. Sister Elizabeth Boutilier (Hugh) . Along with special nephew Tom Robbins and his wife Jessica, Wayne leaves a large extended family and circle of friends. Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7 at Pendergast’s Funeral Home on Bell Island from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
MENCHIONS, Hilda Vera – June 22, 1918-Oct. 6, 2007. Passed peacefully away at St. Luke’s Home, Hilda Vera Menchions in the presence of her husband, at 89 years. Fondly remembered by her husband Rev. Clayton and sister Vivian Batten, sisters-in-law Susie Courage of Bonavista, Carrie Menchions, Clarke’s Beach, Sarah Menchions, Toronto, and by many former students. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. and Monday 10-12 noon. Funeral service from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church Monday Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. MILLS, Isabella – Oct. 15, 1908-Oct. 5, 2007. Passed peacefully away at St. Luke’s Homes on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, Isabella Mills (Seward), formerly of New Perlican, in her 99th year. Predeceased in 1937 by her infant son, Graham Edward and in 1992 by her husband, Captain Graham Mills. Leaving to mourn her dughter Angela (Owen Sullivan) and her son Walter (Elizabeth); grandchildren Lynn (Jo Mark Zurel), Lori (Jim Greene), Cheryl (Jeff Critch), Wendy (Doug Regular); great-grandchildren Heather, Michael and David Zurel, Katherine and Graham Greene, Erin and Jacob Critch. She also leaves a large circle of other relatives and friends with fond memories. Visitation will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home, St. John’s, on Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-12 noon. Memorial service will take place at St. Luke’s Home Chapel Road Deluxe on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Monday visitation will take place at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, New Perlican, from 1-2 p.m. Funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Inurnment to follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, New Perlican. REARDON, Mary Margaret – Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on Oct. 6, 2007, Mary Reardon, aged 82 years. Predeceased by her husband Joseph (2001) and sister Janet. Leaving to mourn only son Joe, grandchildren Chris (Crystal), Jamie (Leanne), Ashley and J.R., one darling great-grandchild Kylie, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. At Mary’s request, cremation has taken place. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Visitation on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service to take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. WOODFORD, Mary J. – Dec. 16, 1928 - October 5, 2007. Of Harbour Main: Simple as that, someone who managed to flatter her audience and herself simultaneously, while telling those tall tales of days gone by. At the end of her sentences she would make this strange sound or accent with her tongue, and you knew when you heard that sound, she meant exactly what she said, not leaving anyone behind to doubt her. This is a woman, who, come hell or high water, out with the rubbers on and elbow deep in the rich soil, which she tended to for many a season, hard as a nail pounded into stone, fragile as the naked hand holding the hammer. Mary left us on Oct. 5th, 2007. Leaving behind her clans, the “pops” and the “tars”. Predeceased by her husband and battle partner, William J. Woodford. Left with fond and loving memories are her nine children: Betty (Keith), Kyran, Olga, Laura (Steve), Donna (Charlie), Tina (Ron), Hilda (Glen), Willma (Gerard), Mart, 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters: Theresa, Anne, and one brother, Edward. Mary, Mary quite contrary how does your garden grow, and as Dad would say, Take your hands of red head Mary for she and I are to be wed. Goodbye to Mom and once again goodbye to Dad. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, with Mass of Christian Burial from SS. Peter and Paul Church, Harbour Main. Cremation to follow.
BABB, Frederick (Tom) Gerald Clive – Died suddenly in his 75th year at his beloved cottage on October 5, 2007. Born Bell Island, Newfoundland, January 13, 1932. Predeceased by parents Gladys and Eugene Babb. Mourned by Grace, his wife of 55 years, daughters Christine and Lynda, grandson Ryan, granddaughter Olivia, sisters Rose Marie, Ruth and Joan, brothers Maxwell and John. Passed peacefully away at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, on Monday, October 8th, 2007, Alice Bridgette Doucette in her 94th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her children: Sylvia Kennedy (Bill), Terry (Yvonne), Andre (Linda), grandchildren: Jennifer Kennedy-Whalen (Woody), Shane Kennedy, Michelle Toutant (Marc), John (Jennifer), John Hemeon (Michelle), Andrea, Michael (Lexi), great-grandchildren: Candace Collett, Jacob Goosney, Tristan and Sarah Doucette, sister Doreen Butler (Al), brother Jim McAllister (Judy), sisters-in-law Annie McAllister and Margaret McAllister, special care giver Marilyn Drover and life-long friend Loretta (Sis) Pilgrim, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents James and Frances McAllister, husband Victor, infant daughter Mary, sisters Sade Handrigan, Marie Chucoine, Veronica McAllister, Margaret McCarthy, Mary McAllister, Imelda (Mac) McAllister, brothers, Bill, Jack, Lawrence and Fred McAllister.
