KIELLEY, Helen (nee Smallwood) – Passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Center on Friday, October 5, 2007 surrounded by those who loved her dearly, Helen Kielley of Topsail, aged 81 years. Helen is leaving to mourn her only daughter Lynn Kielly and her dearly loved son-in-law Robert Brown. Also, special friends Roxane Hayward of Upper Gullies; her incredible and loving care giver Maureen Brown, St. John’s; Doris Chandler of Nova Scotia; and Kitty Excel, Bermuda; Sharon and Barry Constantine of St. John’s; her niece Patricia (Gibbons) Legrow; grandnieces and nephews; as well as a host of family and friends of whom she was extremely fond. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Topsail United Church on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Topsail United Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Alzheimer's Society.
PENNEY, Georgina Lillias – Suddenly, on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Port Perry, Ontario, at age 70. Georgina (nee Warren), dearly loved wife of John Penney of Conception Bay South, NL. Loved mother of Mel Penney and his wife Wanda of Moncton, NB, Fred Penney and his wife Valerie of Port Perry, Steve Penney and his wife Wanda of Topsail, NL and Dorothy Penney of Ottawa. Loving grandmother of Jason, Amanda, Joel, Nathan, Heather, Julia and Lianna; dear sister of Loretta (deceased) and her husband Ira Slade of Arnold’s Cove. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A service to celebrate her life will be held in the Faith Pentecostal Church, Foxtrap on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 1 p.m. Interment in the Pentecostal Cemetery, Long Pond. REID/MAHER, Enid Hazel – Born February 14, 1921, passed peacefully away in Bristol, England on Sunday September 30, 2007. Predeceased by first husband Dr. Bernard Maher in 1958 and second husband Robert Reid in 1999; grandson Samuel Maher in 1988; sons-in-law: Malcolm Beech in 1992 and Peter Bennett in 1994. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her children: Bernadette Byrne (Peter) of St. John's, Jim Maher (Hilary), Angela Perry (Dave), Sally Bennett, Pamela Stewart (Keith), Bernard Maher (Paula), all of England; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister Iris Sunderland of England; sisters-in-law: Mona Kennedy and Margaret Maher; nieces, nephews and friends from St. John's. Memorial Mass to take place Tuesday, October 9 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, St. John's. Donations may be made in her memory to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre.
SAMSON, Harold William – Passed away peacefully but suddenly at the Health Sciences Centre on Friday, October 5, 2007, in the presence of his family, Harold Samson, aged 49 years. Predeceased by his parents Patrick (aged 49 years), March 9, 1979, and Martina (aged 83 years), March 10, 2007. Left with fond and loving memories, his wife and best friend of 27 years, Florence (Westcott); two sons, Douglas (Michelle) and Michael (Katie); one daughter, Ashley (Rodney); and one grandson, Kyle. Seven brothers, Gordon (Dorothy), Len (Juanita), Al (Anita), Jack (Tina), Pat (Lillian), Kevin (Kelly); and one sister, Bride. Sisters-in-law Lillian, Ann (Randy), Dawn (Raymond), Sherry (Ronnie), Joyce (Greg), Shelly (Don); and one brother-in-law, Dougie (Sherry) . One very special aunt, Marie Aylward; also many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of family and friends. He will also be missed by his co-workers at Crosbie Industrial. SELLARS, Marion – Passed peacefully away on October 1, 2007, at the Health Sciences Centre, Marion Sellars, age 89 years. Predeceased by spouse Gordon (1993); brother Richard Randell; step-brother Robert Randell; step-sister Doris Whelan. Leaving to mourn her daughter Cynthia Murrin and husband Ches; two grandchildren: Paul Murrin (Debbie) of Chilliwack, B.C., Jennifer Hall (Frank) of Chelsea, Q.C.; three great-grandchildren: Shannon and Joshua Hall and Liam Gordon Murrin; two step-sisters: Jean Sooley and Phyllis Miller; nieces, nephews and life time friends. Visitation was held at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. Funeral service was held at St. James United Church. With burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. STEELE, Kenneth (Kenny) James – Passed suddenly after a tragic helicopter crash near Potville, Labrador, October 3rd, Kenneth (Kenny) James Steele, age 51. Predeceased by his parents Angus and Lillian, his sister Doreen (Ayers), brother Peter and brothers-in-law Lester Gettel and Jon Eiseman. Left with loving memories are his brother Ronald; sisters Judith (Hotts), Patricia (Carter), Diane (Gettel), Maureen (Eiseman); brother-in-law Herb; former wife and special friend Sheila (Rowe); many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Kenny died doing what he loved most in life – flying, a love that took him to many parts of the world but always back to his beloved Newfoundland. Remains are trusted to the care of Stacey’s Funeral Home, Gander. Visitation on Monday, October 8th. Family from 1-2 p.m, friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Service at St. Joseph’s Church on Tuesday, October 9th, at 2 p.m. Burial at All Saints Cemetery following the service. No flowers by request. CARROLL, Thomas – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, Thomas Carroll in his 81st year of Chapel’s Cove, formerly of Clattice Harbour and Holyrood. Predeceased by his parents: Martin and Elizabeth Carroll, his siblings; Michael, Rita and Anne Marie. Left with fond and loving memories are his sister Mary Walsh (Ray), his many nieces and nephews, especially his nieces Helen Cronin (Frank), and Eunice Warford (Graham), and a large circle of extended family and friends, especially his beloved friend Agnes Hawco, Chapel’s Cove, with whom he resided for the past 23 years. Agnes and her family opened their homes and their hearts and loved Tommy as much as their own. He always will hold a special place in our hearts and in our memory. He’ll be sadly missed by all, especially Danielle and Nicholas “his little spider”. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday. Funeral will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, with Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Cross Church, Holyrood. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will be in the family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood, at a later date.
GREENE, Clarence – Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, Clarence Greene, age 84 years of Point Verde, Placentia. Predeceased by parents James and Elizabeth, brothers Nick, Sandy and Leo, sisters Hilda and Katie. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Patricia (English) of 53 years, his children Clarence (Linda), Rose Lafreniere (Roy Clarke), Elizabeth Leonard (Blair), Marian Kelly (Randy), Bertha Traverse (Derm), Bernadette Noftall (Bill), Cathy Morris (Max), Mike (Christine) and Sandy (Pam), 22 grandchildren, brothers-in-law Mike (Eileen) English, Milton Greene, sisters-in-law Cecelia Greene and Regina Greene, a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
