SNELGROVE, Eric J. (Merchant Marine WWII) – Passed peacefully away at the Veteran’s Pavilion on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007, Eric John (Hookey) Snelgrove, aged 91 years. Predeceased by wife Gertrude; mother, father, brother and sisters. Leaving to mourn special nephew Terry Snelgrove (Linda); niece Bernice King (Art) . Also leaving with fond memories, great-nephews Sam Snelgrove (Ashley), Gordon Snelgrove (Katherine) and very special great-great-niece Mackenzie Snelgrove; one sister-in-law Daisy Hiscock, plus a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; especially members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 1. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday, October 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to be held from Barrett’s Chapel on Friday, October 5th at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. WALSH, Joseph – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, Joseph Walsh in his 75th year, of North Harbour. Predeceased by his wife Thelma (1988); his parents: Patrick (1993), Marion; his sisters: Helen Leduc (1972), Rita Lewis (1987) and Patricia Quinlan (2007); his sons-in-law: Richard Bain (1997) and Malcolm Crane (2007) . Left with fond and loving memories are his son Kevin (Sharon) of Oshawa, ON; his daughters: Karen Crane of Hamilton, ON, Darlene Power (Alban) of North Harbour, SMB, Christine Bain of Hamilton, ON; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; his brothers: Patrick (Veronica), Kevin (Eileen), Denis (Lena), Dermot of North Harbour, SMB; his sisters: Margaret Sampson, Theresa Corcoran (Harold), Isabel Barrett and his best friend and sister, Mary Dunphy; and a large circle of extended family and friends. At his request, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007 at Sacred Heart Church, North Harbour. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood.
DIXON, Harold – Passed peacefully away at his residence in Topsail, on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, age 71 years. Left with fond and loving memories, his children: Sylvia (Trevor), Aileen (Dean), Harold (Valerie); grandchildren: Krista, Aimee, Andrew, Harold, Kyle and Isabella; sisters, brother and other relatives and friends. A private visitation is planned in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews.
GREENE, Michael (1918-2007) – Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home on October 2, 2007 in the presence of his family, Michael Greene of Tilting, Fogo Island. Predeceased by his wife Marie in June 2000. Left with fond memories, his six sons: Leo, Len, Harold (Helen), Brendan (Linda), Aidan (Mercedes), Brian (Peggy); three daughters: Bernadette Linehan, Karen McGrath (Jim), Loretta Robinson; 16 grandchildren: Michael, Stephen, Stephanie, Nancy, Jessica, Jill, Curtis, Sarah, Meghan, Mary Claire, Colin, Corey, Leah, Amy, Sinead, Scott; one brother Harold (Ann); two sisters, Madeline St. Croix, and Sister Patrick Mary; one sister-in-law Theresa Salvas (Paul); also a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. BOLAND, Laurence Patrick – of Brooklyn New York, formerly of Outer Cove, NL, 1918-September 22, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (nee Devereaux), formerly of Logy Bay, NL. Loving father of Jim and Mary. Devoted father-in-law and grandfather. Survived by sisters Catherine, of Brooklyn, and Mary of Outer Cove. Predeceased by his father, William, and Mother, Elizabeth, and brothers James, Denis, Thomas, William, and sister Hannah. Leaving to mourn large circle of family and friends in Newfoundland and Brooklyn. Funeral Mass was held on September 26th in Brooklyn. BRODERICK, Marlene – Passed peacefully away on Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Ontario, aged 44 years. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Martina Broderick and brother Michael. Left to cherish her memory, her husband Steve Stratton; son Michael Gibbons; two daughters: Jessie and Cassie Stratton; step-son Corey Stratton; her three sisters: Ellen Casey (Len), Carmel Newman (Richard), Annette Bridgeman (Kevin); her nieces: Lynnette Aylward (Shannon) and Emma Bridgeman; her nephews: Neil Casey (Tara) and Alex Bridgeman, as well as her aunt Irene Broderick and uncle Ronald Broderick (Mary), also a large number of friends and other relatives. Funeral was held on October 4 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Alliston, Ontario.

Predeceased by brothers Martin, James, Gerald and John; sisters Betty, Blanche and Stella; daughter-in-law Lorna. Leaving to mourn wife Sophie; one daughter Marilyn Butt, Paradise; two sons Herb (Sue) and Vince (Iris), both of Carbonear; nine grandchildren Laura (Patrick), Jan, Karla (Mike), Kristen (Andrew), Kirk (Jolynn), Trent (Andrea), Trevor, Lynn (Trevor) and David (Melissa); eight great-grandchildren: Madison, Kai, Kieren, Logan, Mason, Brooke, Claire and Nolan; one sister Melvena Pye, Bareneed; also a large number of other relatives and friends. CHILVERS, Mildred (Hamlyn) – Passed peacefully away at Vancouver on September 12, 2007, in her 95th year. Formerly of St. John’s and Toronto, she was the last remaining member of the family of the late William and Julia (Chayter) Hamlyn of St. John’s. Predeceased by her husband Harry; brothers: William (and wife Adelaid), George (and wife Una), James (and wife Jessie), Robert (and wife Mary), Eric, Hugh and her twin brother Ralph. Leaving with cherished memories her son, John Chilvers (Sheila) of Richmond Hill, ON; and daughter, Janet Chilvers (Glen Taylor) of Bowen Island, BC; four grandchildren: Erin Froese (Rob), Kevin Kerr, Allison and Scot Chilvers; two great-grandchildren: Conner and Sacha Froese. Also leaving sisters-in-law: Stella Hamlyn and Alma Hamlyn of St. John’s; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins in the Hamlyn family. A memorial service will be held in Toronto at a date to be announced.
STONE, George Alfred – Passed peacefully away at Hoyles-Escasoni Comples on October 1, 2007, George Stone, aged 78 years. Predeceased by wife Marie (1975) and long time companion, Thelma Hawco (2003) . Leaving to mourn daughters: Dale (Ed) Sweetapple, Diane (Scott) Hanford, Paulette (Derek) Stone and granddaughter Kim (Chris) Blagdon and great-granddaughter Eve Marie. Also remembered by Thelma’s family: Debbie (Rick) Murphy, Cathy (Bill) Antle, Diane (Stan) Hussey, Patti (Philip) Murphy and Kevin Hawco. George is best known for his 42 years as a St. John’s Taxi Driver.
