CHILVERS, Mildred (Hamlyn) – Passed peacefully away at Vancouver on September 12, 2007, in her 95th year. Formerly of St. John’s and Toronto, she was the last remaining member of the family of the late William and Julia (Chayter) Hamlyn of St. John’s. Predeceased by her husband Harry; brothers: William (and wife Adelaid), George (and wife Una), James (and wife Jessie), Eric, Hugh and her twin brother Ralph. Leaving with cherished memories her son, John Chilvers (Sheila) of Richmond Hill, ON; and daughter, Janet Chilvers (Glen Taylor) of Bowen Island, BC; four grandchildren: Erin Froese (Rob), Kevin Kerr, Allison and Scot Chilvers; two great-grandchildren: Conner and Sacha Froese. Also leaving sisters-in-law: Stella Hamlyn and Alma Hamlyn of St. John’s; as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins in the Hamlyn family. A memorial service will be held in Toronto at a date to be announced.
CLEARY, Christopher C. – September 10, 1928 - September 27, 2007 - Passed away suddenly, in the presence of his family, after a brief illness at the Carbonear General Hospital, Christopher Cleary of Cupids (formerly of Buchans), age 79 years. Predeceased by his wife Ann (nee Delaney), September 15, 1994. Leaving to mourn are his daughters: Mary (Phil Laracy), Cupids and Ann Marie, Mount Pearl; as well as other relatives and a large circle of friends, especially his brother Knights throughout NL. Chris was a former Grand Knight and founding member of the Bishop March Council, 3315 in Buchans. At the time of his passing, he was a 3rd degree member of Avalon Council, 2223, South River and a 4th degree member of Cabot Assembly, 1644, Avondale. He will be especially missed by his furry friend Toby (lovingly referred to as the Skipper) . Resting at Broughton’s Funeral Home in Brigus with visitation Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Funeral to be held Monday, October 1, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brigus with interment at R.C. DICKS, Viola Patricia – Passed peacefully away in the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the presence of her son David. Viola Dicks, aged 85 years. Predeceased by her husband William Frank, 2003, son Herbert, 1968. Predeceased by her parents Alice and Gordon Yarn; sister: Sandra Richards. SMITH, Eric Bradley – Longtime member of the Masonic and Shrine Fraternity. Passed peacefully away on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, in the presence of his loving family. Eric Bradley Smith aged 87 years. Predeceased by his parents: Captain Frederick and Mary (Patten) Smith. Leaving to mourn his devoted wife Annie (Mills); beloved children: Gail (Alan) Bell, and Wayne (Brenda) Smith; loving grandchildren: Vanessa Bell (Mark Murphy), Martin Bell (Nadine Wall), Laura Power (Paul), Anna and Megan Smith, great-grandson: Alexander Power; and sisters: Phyllis (Nat) Rosston, Vera Bordas and Edna Carey. At Eric’s request, cremation has taken place. BRODERICK, Richard F. – Passed peacefully away at his home in Grate’s Cove on Saturday, September 22, 2007, Richard F. Broderick (Retired Teacher), aged 85 years. Predeceased by his wife Paula, January, 2007. Left to mourn his daughter Patricia, also a number of nieces and nephews. Father Mike Barker conducted the funeral service on Monday, September 24 at St. Joseph’s Church, Grate’s Cove and the R.C. Cemetery, Grate’s Cove.
