Funeral service at Sunset Funeral Home, Botwood, Tuesday, September 25th. Resting at Green’s Funeral Home, Winterton, Wednesday, September 26th 7 - 9 p.m. Committal service at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Winterton, Thursday morning at 11 a.m. Loving mother of Peggy, John and Ross, and sister of Dr. Otto Tucker (Ruby) . Also left are many relatives and friends. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
SHEPPARD, Charles E. – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Charles Edward Sheppard, aged 61 years, announce his passing at Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his mother Miriam Blanche and father Eldred Sheppard, wife Patricia Sheppard, sisters: Lois Kulesa and Ona Singleton. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Rosalyn (Sparkes); daughter Jacqueline MacKinnon (Ian); son Christopher (Stacy); step-daughters: Stephanie Curran (Andy), Kathleen Curran (Lee); beloved grandchildren: Jack, Sophia, Rian, Ella and John; sisters: Dorothea Pike and Wilverna Briggs; the many relatives who provided loving care especially Kathleen Blackmore, Jean Galvin, Phyllis Butt, Pauline Christian and Marjorie Sparkes. SOMERTON, Henry – Passed peacefully away September 25, 2007 at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his loving family and friends, Henry Somerton, age 75. Retired caretaker at St. Andrew’s Elementary School. Predeceased by parents Flora and Alexander; brothers: Herbert, William James, Phillip, and Freddie; sisters: Helen and Hilda. Leaving to mourn devoted wife and best friend of 50 years, Mary (nee Miller); five loving daughters: Trif (Vince) Healey, Glenys (Eugene) Hodder, Mary (Pat Codner), Liz (Trent) Pinsent and Jackie; eight loving grandchildren: Michael, Melissa, Jeanie, Jennifer, Stephen, Ashley, Travis, ‘Poppy’s Little Buddy’ Dylan and great-grandchild Destiny; sisters: Fredericka Greeley and Florie Loveridge; special nephew Mack Somerton; sister-in-law Millie Miller and brothers-in-law: Adrian, Peter and Jim Miller. Henry will be sadly missed by all and will remain in our hearts forever. WARD, Simon – August 11, 1918 - September 21, 2007. Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Hospital on September 21, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, Simon Ward, aged 89 of Gambo. He is predeceased by his parents Idella and Anthony; brothers: Charlie and Domino; four sisters: Carrie, Emma, Myrtle and Elizabeth; and grandson Colin. He leaves to mourn his wife of 69 years, Frances; children: Charles (Peggy), Harry (Louise), Franklyn (Linda), Calvin (Heather), Clarence (Madeline), Joy (Cecil) and Roger (Kathleen); fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sisters: Myrtle Janet (Jerrett), Sadie (Pritchett) and Sarah (Guy) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral arrangements were handled by Pritchett’s Funeral Home. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Gambo on September 24. Donations in his memory can be made to the Salvation Army Cemetery Fund.
BAIRD EATON, Elizabeth (Betty) (nee Jamieson) – Passed away suddenly on September 25, 2007. Predeceased by her husbands Hugh Baird and Campbell Eaton and brothers Thomas and Dougald Jamieson and sister Caroline Knight. Leaving to mourn are her children: Hugh, Christopher (Anne), Alexander (Sonya), Duncan (Janet), Helen (Patrick Heneghan), Caroline (Stephen Kelly), Ian (Isabelle), Stuart (Susan); step-children: Janet O’Dea (John), Fraser Eaton (Irene), Sandy Eaton (Darlene), David Eaton (Evelyn), Deborah Trickett (David), Robyn Eaton (Frank Demont) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister Marion Andrews. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitations to take place on Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (The Kirk), at 2 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2007. Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 46 years, Margaret Batten; two sons: John (June), Brian (Janet); one daughter, Maureen (Andy); two sisters: Evelyn (Ralph) Warford, Gladys (Doug) Noseworthy; one precious granddaughter, Meagan; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. CHAFE, Mary Ellen (nee Hall, formerly Mercer) – Passed peacefully away on Monday, September 24, 2007 at St. Luke’s Home, age 93 years. Predeceased by husbands, Harold Mercer and Angus Chafe. Leaving to mourn daughter Susanne Higgins (Geoffrey) and son Paul (Joan Kosby); grandchildren: Andrea Higgins (Matthew O’Callaghan), Valerie Higgins and Geoffrey Higgins; great-granddaughter Sadie O’Callaghan. Also mourning Mary’s passing are step-daughters: Anne Osmond and Heather Courage (John) and their children: Paul Osmond, Andrew Osmond and Charlotte Courage. Mary also leaves a large circle of relatives and friends.
