WHITTEN, Grace Isabella – October 1, 1913 - September 23, 2007. Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex on Sunday, September 23, 2007, Grace Whitten of St. John’s in her 94th year. Predeceased by parents Theodore and Susan Whitten, sister Gladys (Wilson), brother William (Emily) . Leaving to mourn brother Jack of Dildo. Also a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Resting at Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo with visitation Tuesday, September 25th 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Warren’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at All Saints’ Anglican Cemetery, Dildo. As expressions of sympathy donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation NL.

Chaulk, Joanne – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joanne Chaulk (nee Head) of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, announce her passing on Sept. 25, 2007 at the Labrador Health Centre at the age of 45 years. She will be sadly missed by her husband Jim; children Christopher and Heather; parents Dave and Jeanette Head (Terra Nova); brothers Derick (Diane), John (Gail) Goose Bay, Jeff (Leah) North Bay, Beve Downey (Mike) Edmonton, Glennis Rideout (Paul) Edmonton, Christine Power (Frank) St. John’s, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from the hours of 2-4 &7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle. Interment will follow at the United Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be greatly appreciated.

COLLINS, Reginald – Aug. 28, 1935 - Sept. 25, 2007. Passed peacefully away (of a “broken heart”) at the Placentia Health Center in the presence of his loving family, Reginald A. Collins of Placentia. Predeceased by his wife Christine (nee Brennan), June 25, 2007, Jerome, June 1989, his parents Reginald and Mary Collins, his sisters: Molly, Adalaide, Margaret, Mary, Noella, his brothers: Sandy, Audie, Eugene, Edward Patrick. Leaving to mourn his loving children: Bunnie, Derek, Brian, Annamarie, Rossie, Noella, Dale (Donna); grandchildren: Randy (Andrea), Mike (Julie), Heidi (Brad), Nena (Daniel), Melissa (Johnny), Kim (Adam), Stephen, Sam and Emma; great-grandchildren: Glenn Grace, Olivia, all of whom he adored; his sisters: Alice (Chris deceased), Rose (Pete); deceased brothers; brothers: Sandy (Theresa), Autie (Vera deceased), Eugene (Ann), Edward Patrick, also Joe (Pat deceased), Bill (Loretta), Raymond (Tish), also a large circle of nieces and nephews, special caregivers at Beachside Manor, and the “wonderful staff” at the Placentia Health Center who cared for Dad on many occasions. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. Funeral notice to be given later.

FLYNN, Robert W. – In his 67th year. Passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, September 25, 2007, Robert W. Flynn, in the loving arms of his wife of 48 years, Barbara (nee Noseworthy) . Also leaving to mourn his two sons: Robert (wife Lydia) and Christopher; granddaughter Renee; special niece and nephew: Nichole and Kevin Yetman; four sisters: Doreen, Helen, Phyllis and Violet; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; also a large number of other relatives and friends. At Mr. Flynn’s request cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 28, 2007 from the Corpus Christi Parish at 9:30 a.m. As expressions of sympathy donations in his memory may be made to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Center. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue.

FOLEY, Donald J. (Longtime emplyee of the City of St. John’s - retired December 2002) — Passed away suddenly at his residence at the age of 55 years on September 23, 2007, Donald J. Foley. Predeceased by his father James (Feb. 2007), brother-in-law Claude Power (Nov. 1980) . Leaving to mourn his loving mother Louise; brother Jimmie (Lorraine); three sisters: Dorothy Murray, Patsy (Gerald Evans) and Sandra; three nephews: John Murray (Leona), Chris Evans (Kelli) and Keith Evans (Natalie); three nieces: Sheri Dawe (Colin), Lisa Holwell (Corey) and Kelly Murray (Steven Hawco) . Don will be certainly missed by his great nieces and nephews: Jonathon, Christopher, Nathan and Noah Evans; Brooklyn Evans, Damien Dawe and most of all the light of his life Olivia Holwell; also a very special aunt Dorothy Sellars. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation will be Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation can be made in his memory to the Longside Club for disabled persons.

HICKEY, Dr. John P. – Passed peacefully away, after a lengthy illness, at the Palliative Care Unit of the Miller Centre on Tuesday, September 25, 2007, age 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Adelaide and two sisters: Joan and Maureen. Leaving to mourn his beloved wife Theresa (Terri) and her family, daughters: Renee (Scott Hall), Michele (John Connors), sons: Glen, Ted and John (Rhonda Hoddinott) and their children; and one sister Adelaide in Alberta. Also survived by daughters: Maureen, Joanne, Ann and son Jack, as well as several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Thursday, September 27th, from 2 p.m. 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Service on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 11 a.m. from Caul’s Chapel. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

MILLER, Flora Anne (Stickland) – June 20, 1918 - Sept. 25, 2007. Passed away at the Escasoni Home, St. John’s, Flora Anne Miller (Young-Stickland), age 89 years, after a lengthy illness. Leaving to mourn daughters: Ethel Piercy and husband Rev. Stanley Mingledorff, Oxford, N.S., Joan Proulx and husband Donald Batson, Heart’s Delight; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Kevin) Carmody, Anne (Michael) Ives, David (Kelly) Piercy, Jeanne (Mark) Symons, Glenn (Dana) Piercy; eight great-grandchildren. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents Joshua and Susie Stickland (Young), John and Elsie (Poole) Stickland; sister Susie (Stickland-Young); brother-in-law Newman Brewer; sons-in-law: Raymond Proulx and George W. Piercy. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., St. John’s on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place on Friday, September 28 at 11 a.m. from the Salvation Army Citadel, Adams Ave., St. John’s. Interment to follow at 3 p.m. in the Salvation Army Cemetery, Hant’s Harbour. O’LEARY, Olivera (Vera) Marie (nee Cormier) – Passed peacefully away at her residence on Monday, September 24, 2007, Vera O’Leary, age 76 years. Predeceased by her husband Sean Wallace O’Leary and son Padraic (Paddy) . Leaving to mourn her loving family, two sons: Sean F. and Miceal (Mike) wife Joyce, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two daughters: Mairin (Maureen) Hitsman and husband Michael, Tamarac, Florida and Sheilagh O’Leary; eight grandchildren: Keeley and Keegan O’Leary; Kaelen, Killian and Kieran Hitsman, Eamon Maren Ellis O’Leary and Eoin George O’Leary; three sisters: Madeleine Bedelia and Barbara; two brothers: Adolph and Gerald; sister-in-law: Deirdre O’Leary and many other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Olive Gough and best friend Agnes (Chris) Stack. At Vera’s request, cremation has taken place. Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, September 26 from 7-9 p.m. at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Parish, Smithville Crescent. A reception will take place at Admiral’s Green, Pippy Park, Thursday afternoon, September 27 from 3 - 6 p.m.

RIDEOUT, Emily Elizabeth (Cumby) – Passed away peacefully at Carbonear General Hospital on September 25, 2007, Emily Elizabeth Rideout of Heart’s Content in her 86th year. She leaves to mourn with precious and loving memories her four sons: Wallace (Bess), Tex (Elizabeth), James (Lynette), Derek (Ivy); seven daughters: Cresy (Jim) Seaward, Peggy (Wayne) Penney, Cassie (Wayne) Harris, Elva Thomas (Roger), Marilyn Masters, Dorothy Fradsham (Blair), Joy Legge (Larry); twenty-seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and also a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband Cyril, father and mother: John and Frances (Downy) Cumby. Visitation will take place at Green’s Funeral Home, Winterton, Wednesday, September 26, 2007, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2007 10 a.m. - 12 Noon from St. Mary’s Church, Heart’s Content. Funeral Service to follow at 2 p.m. from St. Mary’s Church, Heart’s Content. Interment to follow in Heyfield United Cemetery, Heart’s Content. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center, St. John’s.
