BARRETT, Lucretia (Lulu) (nee Pilgrim) – It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lulu, aged 83 years, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend at the Agnes Pratt Home, St. John’s on Thursday, August 16, 2007. Predeceased by husband Arthur (2005) and two sisters: Hazel and Lottie. Left to mourn children: George (Judy), Keith (Sharon), Gary (Ted) and Dianne (Bob) Morris; grandchildren: Heather (Chris), Lori, Dana (Grant), Lisa (Mike), Adam and Shawn; great-grandchildren: Joseph, Ella, Liam and Kara; three sisters: Effie Cooper, Una (Tony) MacAskill and Ethel Mews; two brothers: Maitland (Gladys) and Lewis (Grace); as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was a woman of grace, dignity and courage. Even in her final days, her remarkable strength was an inspiration to the lives of all she touched. Special thanks to the staff of Stella Burry Place who welcomed her into their lives and always cared for her with tenderness. At Lulu’s request, cremation has taken place. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Barrett’s Chapel on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Agnes Pratt Home, The Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
CHURLEY, Herbert – Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Health Sciences Complex on Thursday, August 16, 2007, Herbert Churley, aged 77 years. Predeceased by his parents: Elias and Merium and brother Edward. Leaving to mourn his devoted wife of 56 years Pearl (nee Slade); daughter Keely Coombs (Robert); two loving grandsons: Keenin and Braden; sister Edna Rayman, as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. DOWDEN, Glenda – It is with great sadness that the family of Glenda Dowden (nee Butler) announces her sudden passing on August 15, 2007, while on vacation in Ontario. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Charles; son Rodney (Donna); daughters: Roxanne, Renee (Roger) and Rachel. Glenda was the adored ‘Nanny’ of grandchildren: Joshua, Ryan, Luke, Carly and Keigan. She will also be remembered with great fondness by her sisters: Esther, Susie, Ida and Muriel; and brother Clarence. Glenda’s generosity and kind heart will remain an inspiration to us all. Visitation in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Upper Gullies on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. KELLOWAY, Derek (Dick) – Guided lovingly home in the arms of the angels following a courageous battle with cancer, Derek (Dick) Kelloway, age 53 years. Predeceased by his father and mother John and Gladys Kelloway; brothers: Max, Ray, Bob and Randy. Always and forever loved by his wife and soul mate Elizabeth (nee Hussey); daughters: Kim Cuff (Jeff) and Deborah Kelloway (Dan); sons: Paul (Jennifer) and Robert (Rhonda); ten grandchildren: Tyler, Jillian, Mitchell, Rebecca, Alicia, Amber, Nathaniel, Logan, Daniel and Jenna; special sister Linda Hussey (Ed); sisters: Joan, Shirley, Ros, and Shelle; brother Stirling (Shirley); best friend Cindy Carter; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. At Derek’s request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at St. James United Church on Monday, August 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of Derek’s life is planned for Monday, August 20, 2007 following the memorial service at 70 Camrose Drive, Paradise, NL.
MOORES, Vera Alice – (War Bride, formerly of England) Passed away suddenly but peacefully at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, St. John’s on Friday, August 17, 2007, Vera Alice Moores of Carbonear, age 87 years. Predeceased by husband William; parents, Joseph and Ada Brown; sister, Audrey Brown. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories, sons: Richard (Bernadette), Mount Pearl, David (Susan), Australia and Charles (Melvina), Mount Pearl; daughter Sandra (Robert) Matthews, Botswana; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all. A proud English Lady who made Newfoundland her home. Resting at Noel’s Funeral Home, WATER STREET, CARBONEAR with visitation hours by request of the family on Monday, August 20th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday, August 21st from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, August 22nd from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. WATERMAN, Edward Joseph – Age 41 years. Passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 12, 2007, in Bowmanville, ON, formerly of Flatrock. Predeceased by his parents, William and Anne; and his niece Holly Anne. Leaving to mourn his family, brothers: John, Michael (Sheila) and Brian (Bonnie); sisters: Donna and Dianne; nephews: Scott (Ashley) and Michael Waterman; nieces: Lesley Anne, Natasha and Shauna Waterman; his very special niece and friend, Stephanie Waterman (Luke); aunts: Francis White (Kevin), Kay Barron, Mary Humber (Eric) and Helen Taylor (Bill); uncles: Edward Waterman and Frank Waterman (Yvonne); very special friends in Bowmanville: Edith, Madonna, Rob, Shelly and Casey Hilditch and June Ruiter; as well as many other family and friends. ARCHIBALD, Lloyd Cleveland- Halifax. It is with both sadness and joy that son Greg and daughter Diane Archibald wish to announce the peaceful passing of their loving father, Lloyd Cleveland Archibald, on Friday, August 17, 2007, son of the late Herman and Annie Archibald of Harbour Grace, NL. "Poppy" lived the last few years of his life at the Halifax home of son Greg, daughter-in-law Christine McKenna and grandchildren Laura, Mark and Andrew. It was an added joy for his daughter Diane of Petaluma, California, to join the family in caring for Poppy at home through the last days of his illness. He is also survived by: his brother Albert "Wool" Archibald of Toronto, ON; his "Bannerman House" family and relatives abroad as well as many friends old and new from Newfoundland to California, many of whom were able to express their love in these last days. Poppy lived life to the full through the love of family, friends, food (especially at Smitty's), good fun and many famous stories. He was a community minded person who served through the establishment of a private hotel business with his beloved wife Grace, government committees on the fishery in NL, and a number of other personal contributions. In his earlier married life, he helped with the development of the family farming business, Archibald Farms Ltd., in the 1950's to the 1970's. After retirement he lived in Belleville, ON, Miramichi, NB and finally in Halifax, NS with his son Greg and family. As a spiritual note, Lloyd drew closer to God in his final years, reestablishing his relationship with Christ kindled through the church family of First Congregational Church of Halifax and Sustained by nights with Billy Graham, a lifetime hero. Many thanks to the Healthcare team of: Dr. John F. Archibald, family doctor; the Palliative Care Service; VON and Continuing care; Life Care; and the Canadian Red Cross workers whose exceptional professional home support and care enabled Lloyd to experience a peaceful home death surrounded by loving family. A special note of thanks to the family of Dalhousie Family Medicine in supporting Greg and Chris at the this time. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Homes, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A funeral service will be held at First Congregational Church of Halifax at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20, 2007. An interment service will also be held in Miramichi, NB at 2:00 p.m.on August 21, 2007 through Davidson's Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to: the Canadian Red Cross, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
BOWMAN, Ann Norah (nee Curran) - Passed peacefully away on Monday, July 16, 2007 at the West Park Long Term Care Center in Toronto, Ontario, in her 94th year (member of the Catholic Women's League, St. Ambrose Parish) . Beloved wife of the late William Bowman and daughter of the late Bernard Curran and Jane Curran (nee Neville) . Loving sister of Bridget Wright, Agnes Siwick, Mary Bator and Marion O'Leary and predeceased by brothers James and Leo. Lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their families in Ontario and Newfoundland. A graveside service will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at 3 p.m.
