SNEEVLIET, Antoinette – Passed away after a short illness at the Palliative Care Unit, L.A. Miller Centre on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, Antoinette Sneevliet, age 85 years. Leaving behind her only son, Dr. Tom J. Calon, her daughter-in-law Gerlinde van Driel Q.C. and three grandchildren Charlotte, Kirsten and Alexander. Born in the former Dutch East Indies in 1920, she lived a full life on four continents and came to St. John's in 1991 to be near her family. She will be missed by her friends of The Good Companions of St. David's Church, her friends of the Seniors Resource Center and the Bidgood's Grocery Bus, as well as many other friends she made in the community. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday, April 24, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Antoinette's cremated remains will be returned to Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to be interred in the family plot, where life long Dutch friends will be in attendance. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA or The Seniors Resource Centre.

ARNOLD, Roseann (nee Aspell) – Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at the Palliative Care Unit, Miller Center on April 20, 2005, Roseann Arnold, age 56 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Jeff; daughter Robynn and her beloved dog Pepper; brothers: Dermot (Peggy), Port Alberni, B.C., Gerard (Georgina), Bay Bulls, Edward (Evelene), Ottawa; sisters: Mary, Detroit, Ellen, Brigus South; sister-in-law Peggy Genge (Norman), Glovertown; nieces, nephews and colleagues from the teaching profession and a wide circle of friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visitation on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. from Mary Queen of Peace with Father Paul Lundrigan officiating. Cremation to follow. Private interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Newfoundland Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation. - 04/21/05

BENNETT, Peter J. – Passed peacefully away at Placentia Health Centre on April 20, 2005, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Peter Bennett, age 71 of Freshwater, P. Bay. Predeceased by loving wife of 46 years, Christine (nee Flynn); parents, Margaret and Simon; son Daniel and brother Austin. Left with fond and loving memories, his daughters: Shirley (Jim), Imelda (Andy), Denise (Wish); sons: Jerome (Bernice), Tony, Kevin, Peter Jr. (LeNore), Brendan (Pauline), Brian (Darlene), Denis (Wilma), Wayne; and sister Mary-Ann; ten grandchildren: Darlene (Robert), Neil, Bradley, Chad, Evan, Tyler, Krystal, Brian, Brittany and Ashley; special family and friends: the Lockyers, especially God-daughter Christine, brother-in-law Frank Flynn (Violet), Dominic and Madonna Fitzgerald, Cecil and Mary Greene and Ambrose McCarthy, sister-in-law Nellie and nieces Marie (Marcel), Mary (Ron) and their families. Special thanks to Father Roche, doctors and staff of Placentia Health Centre. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia. BUTTON, Frank – (Retired CN Marine Employee) . Passed peacefully away at the L.A. Miller Centre on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, Frank Button in his 82nd year. Predeceased by his son Alfred Winsor and sister Lily Butt. Left with cherished memories are his wife Emily (Winsor); sons: Frank (Bonnie) and Lloyd (Deborah and children); daughter-in-law Ruth Winsor; grandchildren: Peter Winsor (Mabel), Todd Winsor, Kimberley Okpara, David Button and Sarah Button; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Riley and Sara; sisters-in-law: Minnie Penney, Evelyn Woolgar, Blanche Byrne, Effie Andrews (Allan) and Ruth Winsor; many nieces, nephews and a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Thursday, April 21, 2005 from 10 a.m. - 12 Noon, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and on Friday, April 22, 2005 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral Service to take place from Wesley United Church on Friday, April 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are being gratefully accepted or donations may be made in his memory to Wesley United Church.

FOWLER, Sister Mary Angela, RSM – Entered into eternal life at McAuley Convent April 20, 2005, Sister Mary Angela Fowler, age 94 years. Predeceased by her parents, Michael and Frances (Corbett) Fowler of Brigus; her sisters: Pauline Melvin, Doris Chafe and brother Leo Fowler. Leaving to mourn the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy; her sisters: Ignatia Madden and Veronica Whelan; several devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and many co-workers and friends. Waking at McAuley Convent, 250 Waterford Bridge Road, St. John's on Thursday, April 21st, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Friday, April 22nd until 9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 23rd, 9:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish Church, Waterford Bridge Road with interment to follow at the Sisters of Mercy plot in Belvedere Cemetery.

BYRD, Mary Lillian (nee French) – Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving friends at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex on April 26, 2006. Mary Lillian Byrd in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her husband James and her parents, Jessie and Eli French. Left with fond and loving memories: Chris, Elizabeth, Cyra, Giselle and Tiffany Belbin and Becky Sjarc as well as other friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Hoyles Home, 2 West for their loving care. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Thursday, April 27th from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Service on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Caul's Chapel. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Also leaving to mourn her grandchildren: Tracey Evans (Stan), Darren Furlong, Garry Furlong Jr., Denise Furlong (Alberta), Shane Furlong, Brian Furlong, Scott Furlong (Renee), Michael Furlong, Chris King, Stephen King, Stacy Furlong, BC, Mark Furlong, BC, Amanda Furlong, Alberta, Amey Furlong, Alberta, Felicia Furlong, Emma Furlong, Alberta; four great-grandchildren: Markus and Briana Furlong, Kiara Evans and Chris Carter King; special friend Flor; four sisters: Susie Furlong, Sadie Day, Hattie, Minnesota, USA and Lillian Martin (Ed), Sarnia, Ontario; brother Warren Langmead; as well as many other relatives and friends. HAAF, Margaret Rose (nee Williams) —
October 13, 1940 - April 23, 2006. Marg entered into eternal life surrounded by her family at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn are Ed, her husband of 39 years; sons: Trevor and Jay; daughter Jody (Marc) Garneau, adored granddaughters: Michaela, Dominique, Marya, and Kiera, as well as siblings: twin sister Bridget Rossiter and sister Marie (Francis) Kieley of Newfoundland and brother Walter Williams of Ottawa. She will be missed by loving relatives and friends from BC to Newfoundland. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Stella Williams and brothers Gerry and Pat. Born in Buchans, Newfoundland, Marg always had a fondness for her native land and she passed that love on to her children. Her family moved to the farm in Kilbride where she enjoyed working the land. She attended St. Joseph's (Kilbride) and Littledale. After graduation, she moved to Ontario to train as an OT Assistant. When she married Ed, they were posted to BC where they started their family. During their years in the RCAF, they collected many friends across Canada before settling in Abbotsford, BC. Marg was a devout Catholic and a woman of faith. We will miss her generous spirit, love of life, feistiness, and humour. Prayers will be April 27 and the Funeral Mass will be at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, BC on April 28. Interment at Gardens of Gethsemani. Marg requested that donations be made to St. James Church Building Fund (2767 Townline Rd, Abbotsford, BC V2T 5E1) . - 04/27/06
