BURRY, Florence – 89, New Germany, Lunenburg County, formerly of Guysborough, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2007 in Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where she had been residing for the past two years. Florence lived most of her married life in Guysborough where she devoted her life to her husband, three children, the family farm, her church and community. She was active for many years in the local UCW of her church and was a leader of CGIT for a short time. She was a loyal member of the Eastern Star Lodge for most of her adult life. Her greatest joy in later years was the frequent visits with her three grown children, her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ross, in 1996. Surviving are son Wayne, St. John’s NL; daughters: Sharon Shaw, Lower Sackville, Ardythe (Darrell Pierce), New Germany; grandchildren: Leslie Kennedy, James Burry, Lynn Mae Dougall, Dean and Jay Shaw; Andrea, Kenneth and Jonathan Boss; four great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, New Germany. Service and burial will follow at a later date in St. John’s, NL. Donations in her memory may be made to Rosedale Home for Special Care - Van Fund, New Germany, B0R 1E0.

COFFEY, Shawn Herbert – August 14, 1965 - December 12, 2007. Shawn Coffey, beloved husband of Diane Coffey of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the age of 42 years. Shawn was born on August 14, 1965 in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. He moved to Calgary in 1989, and married Diane in 1992. Shawn loved life, laughter, and had a great sense of humour. He shared this with his wife, children, grandchildren, and those whose lives he touched. Shawn was dedicated to his career. He will be sadly missed by all. Besides his loving wife Diane, Shawn is survived by his son Danny and daughter Nathalie, all of Calgary. He is also remembered by four grandchildren, Michelle, Danielle, Hailey, and Nicholas; parents Catherine and Aloysius Coffey of Newfoundland; Diane’s parents Jean Guy and Connie Larocque; seven brothers and five sisters; Diane’s two brothers and four sisters; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E., Calgary AB) on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. In living memory of Shawn Coffey, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E. CALGARY, AB T2A 3V9.

COLBERT, Robert Ryan – Gone to be with “Mom”. Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on Monday, December 17, 2007, Robert Ryan Colbert, aged 86 years. Predeceased by his wife Frances (June 18, 2006); infant son Bobby; parents: Frances and Michael Colbert. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his only daughter Maureen O’Brien (John- deceased); sons: Walter (Anne), Gerard (Cathy), David (Barb) and Donny (Ruby); eight grandchildren; sisters: Elizabeth Tobin (Jim), Theresa Ralph (Con- deceased), Agnes Lesho (Victor- deceased), Rita Lehman (Jerry); one sister-in-law Regina Colbert-Lundrigan; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Tuesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from The Basilica of St. John the Baptist Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation may be made in his memory to St. Patrick’s Mercy Home.

FEWER, Mary Alice (nee O’Brien) – Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex on December 16, 2007, Mary Fewer, aged 75 years. Predeceased by her husband Raymond and two sisters: Margaret and Elizabeth. Left to cherish her memories are her two daughters: Perpetua and Brenda; son Raymond; three grandsons: Michael, Corey and Leo; sisters: Catherine Murphy (Edward) and Rose Badcock (Ron); brother Peter; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements to be announced at a later date. A donation may be made in her memory to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.

GEARIN, William T. (Paddy) – Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side, William T. (Paddy) Gearin, age 71 years. Left to cherish his memory are his partner Alice Norman; beloved father of Patrick, Robert, Theresa and Peter Gearin and families; ten grandchildren and several step-grandchildren; three sisters: Marie Walsh, Margaret Kearsey and Cathy Breen; one brother Kevin; loving stepfather of Marie, Walter, Ken, Ted and Wayne Norman and families; also leaving to mourn a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Tuesday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from St. John Bosco Church, Shea Heights. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.

GUSHUE, WIlliam (Bill) — Passed peacefully at Toronto General Hospital on Thursday, December 13th, 2007, in his 65th year, Bill Gushue, beloved husband of Josie Magluilo of Brooklin, New York. Dear father of Bruce and his wife Heike of Germany. Brother of Nick, Tom (Joan), Raymond (Mary), Mary and the late Joe Kenny and Kevin Gushue. Bill was originally from Baconcove, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. Our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff of T.G.H. for their wonderful care and support. Memorial donations to Toronto General Hospital Foundation (Heart Transplant Research) would be appreciated. Arrangements in care of the Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton St., Port Hope, Ont. MAHER, Elizabeth (nee Penney) — Passed peacefully away at the Masonic Park Nursing Home on Saturday, December 15, 2007, Elizabeth Mary Maher, aged 91 years. Predeceased by her husband William Maher, infant daughter Frances, son Leo and daughter Margaret (Peg) Auchinleck. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, daughters: Maureen Simon (Mike), Helen Power (Frank) and Patricia Maher; sons: Tom (Joan), Kevin (Agg), Bob (Carol), Dave (Clarice), William and Paul (Sharon); grandchildren: Michael, Peggy, Christine, Dean, Colleen (John), Frank Jr., Judy (Cory), Jason (Janine), Randy, Chuck, Pam (Brian), Mark and Donny; 11 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Benjamin, Ethan, Julia, Kristin, Daniel, Benjamin, Jesse, Sarah, Alyssa and Nathan and step-brother Edward Penney. The family thanks the staff of Masonic Park Nursing Home for their care and kindness during the past three years. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Monday from 7 - 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to take place on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. from the Bascilica of St. John the Baptist. McGRATH, James Joseph – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Monday, December 17, 2007, age 60 years. Predeceased by wife Daisy, 2004 and son George Welshman, 2005. Left with fond and loving memories daughter Dorothy Hogan (David); son Edward (Tammy); six grandsons: David Jr., Allen, Thomas, Dominick, Adrian and Morgan; granddaughter Nicole; as well as a wide circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Monday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 2 p.m. from Caul’s Chapel. OLIVER, Loretta – Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Home on Monday, December 17, 2007, at the age of 89. Loretta was the last member of the Oliver Family. Predeceased by parents Michael and Nora (Daley) Oliver; sisters: Jane Cook, Mary Bennett and Theresa Oliver; brothers: Michael, Edward and Patrick. Leaving to mourn her loving niece Donna Fry (Jim); nephew John Bennett (Margaret); as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. As per Loretta’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hoyles Home.

PARSONS, Bill – Passed peacefully away at Hillsdale Nursing Home, Oshawa, ON on Thursday, December 13, 2007, Bill Parsons of Hillview, aged 86 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children: Isaac Parsons, Scarborough, ON, Diane (Lawrence Burns), Corner Brook and Barbara Russell (Lon), Oshawa, ON; sister Ethel Rodway, North Harbour; brothers: George (May), Garden Cove and Lewis (Gwen), Deer Lake; grandchildren: Michael, Phillip and Troy; great-grandchildren: Connor and Ryleigh and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Memorial United Church, Garden Cove 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. Thursday. Funeral service 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 from Memorial United Church, Garden Cove. Flowers gratefully accepted or a memorial fund to the Gideon Society.
