STONE, Ethel “Eileen” (nee Hewitt) – Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex on Friday, February 29, 2008. Eileen Stone aged 86 years. Predeceased by her husband: Henry William Stone; son: Gordon; brother: Harvey. Left to mourn with loving memories are her son: Harry (Pat); granddaughter: Kelly (Steve); grandson: Brad (Cindy); great-grandsons: Corbin, Riley and Evan; sister: Marie Duvall; sister-in-law: Peg Ploughman; brother-in-law: Doyle Stone (Emily); special cousin: Geraldine Bailey; sisters-in-law: Ivy Stone and Ruth Hewitt as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends, including the staff and residents of Hoyles North 1. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place from St. James United Church on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to St. James United Church Restoration Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

WHEELER, Captain Frank – Passed suddenly away at the Health Sciences Complex on Saturday, March 1, 2008 age 69 years of Foxtrap. Leaving to mourn his wife Kay. Daughter Francis Ann, 2 step-daughters Kim (Brian Sparkes), Melinda (George Walsh), and their families. Also a large number of other relatives and friends. Visitation in the James J. Hickey memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Monday 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday 11 a.m. - 12 noon. Funeral service on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. in All Saints Anglican Church, Foxtrap. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery, Dunn’s Hill Road, Foxtrap.

BENNETT, Agnes – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Agnes Bennett announce her passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the age of 85 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her daughter, Paula Huntley (Eugene); son, Paul O’Brien (Michelle) and very special grandson, Daniel; step-children: Corey Power (Roger), Linda Button (Wayne) and Brendan Bennett (Eva); sister, Irene Chaulk; brothers: Joe Parsons (Brada), Wilfred Parsons (Gertrude) and John Parsons (Betty); and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter O’Brien; her second husband, Frank Bennett; parents, Mary and John Parsons; sister, Cecile Follett; and brother, Jim Parsons. Visitation will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Saturday, February 2, 2008 and Sunday, February 3, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer with Monsignor Gale officiating and at Caul’s Funeral Home Chapel, 84 Lemarchant Road, St. John’s, on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Doody officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family extends sincere thanks to the Palliative Care Unit and Unit 3B at Western Memorial Regional Hospital; as well as Father Leonard and Monsignor Gale.

BENSON, Frances — Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by her loving family, on February 1st, 2008, at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by husband Albert and son Albert (Jr.) . Left to mourn daughters Barbara (Drew) Stanway, Ruby (Valeri) Koritarov, Debbie Roberts; sons David (Sadie) Benson, Gary (Diane) Benson, and Lloyd; daughter-in-law Dora; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of 4SA Health Sciences Centre, also her special homecare workers from Helping Hands. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday, February 4, 2008, at 2 p.m. from St. James United Church. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Frances’ memory may be made to St. James United Church.

COSTELLO, Martin – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Thursday, January 31, 2008, Martin Costello, age 77 years. Predeceased by his mother Catherine Dawe; father Martin Costello; sister Catherine Quann (Charlie) and brothers: Robert and Chesley Dawe. Leaving to mourn his sister-in-law Ellen Dawe, with whom he resided; brother Frank Dawe (Judy); nieces and nephews: Cathy Antle, Gerri Ann McArthur, RoseMarie Edon (Michael - deceased), Debbie Ryan, Jackie Dawe, Michael Dawe, Edna Stead, Lesley Ann Reid, Erin Dawe, Christopher Dawe and Stephen Dawe; cousin Reg Dalton (wife Mary, daughter Jennifer Whitty); as well as many other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Saturday from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral Service on Monday, February 4th at 10:00 a.m. from Caul's Chapel. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

DWYER, Mary – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, January 31, 2008, age 47 years, of Kelligrews. Predeceased by her father Matthew (1988), brother Robert. Left with fond and loving memories her mother Madeline, brothers Matthew (Patricia), Bernard (Sheila), Gerald (Debbie), Jack (Bobbi), Patrick (Lisa), sisters Madeline Tobin (Don), Philomena Evans, Gertie Barnes (Doug) . Also, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation in the James J. ELLIOTT, Jessie Louise (nee Budgell) – Passed peacefully away at the Masonic Park Nursing Home on Thursday, January 31, 2008, Jessie Elliott, aged 90 years. Predeceased by her husband Simeon; son Raymond; step-sons: Tom and Ron; parents: Beatrice and William Budgell; brothers: Eugene, Raymond, George, Harold and Lester. Left with fond and loving memories are children: Shirley (Lloyd Forward), Everett (Elizabeth) and Ruby (David Burt); step-daughter Nina Kinnon; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; sister Vida Patey of St. Anthony; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from Barrett’s Chapel. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Jessie’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.

O’BRIEN, Margaret Patricia (nee Donahue) – of St. John’s. Passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on January 31, 2008 at the age of 93 years. Daughter of the late Dr. Hugh Donahue and Mrs. Ethel Donahue; sister of the late Frances (John) Bindon and Jimmy (Jeanne) Donahue. Predeceased by her husband Frank (1998) and by members of her extended family from St. John’s and Cape Broyle. Left with fond memories are her sons Brian (Janet Gillespie) and Sean (Deb O’Brien), and her beloved grandchildren Michael, Julie, Tim and Katie O’Brien. Also mourning her passing are Sara and Rhonda Wood, her brothers and sisters-in-law, and her nieces and nephews in the Donahue, Keough, O’Brien, Glazebrook, Boland and Dyer families; and her dear friends in the Elizabeth Towers and St. Pius X communities. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road with visiting hours between 3:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Parish Church at Smithville Crescent at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 4. Interment in Belvedere Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
