PARRELL, Ronald Michael – Passed peacefully away on April 1, 2008 at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, Ronald Parrell, age 80 years. Predeceased by his wife Nellie (Seward) . Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children: Brian (Grace), Geralyn, Madonna (Perry), Andy, Jerry, Colleen (Dave) and Ronnie; many brothers, sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home. PEDDLE, Clarence A. – Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Veteran’s Pavilion on April 3, 2008, Clarence Peddle, age 85 years. Predeceased by granddaughter Susan (1980), sons-in-law Bruce Tiller (1989) and Art Penney (1992) and sister Melvina. Leaving to mourn his loving wife and best friend of 60 years, Mae; daughters Dianne Kearley (Bruce), Gail Perks (Bill), son Paul (Heather); grandchildren Mark and Laura Peddle, Nicolle Boone (Dwayne), Andrea Payne (Geoff) of Prince George, B.C.; great-grandchildren Emily and Joshua Payne and Rebecca and Noah Boone; brothers Cecil (Marie), Jim (Ella) of Hodge’s Cove, sisters Myrtle Churchill (Calob), Madeline Peddle of Mt. Pearl and Ruby Drover of Hodge’s Cove; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Clarence was a WWII Veteran serving with the Royal Navy. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held on Sunday, April 6th, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Barrett’s Chapel with cremation to follow. ROGERS, Eli – Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Veterans Pavilion on April 1, 2008, Eli William Rogers, age 89 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Jeanette (Palmer); son Wayne; stepsons Ray Palmer (Wanda); Greg Palmer; step-daughters Bev (Reg Legge), Kim (Dean Osmond); eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also leaving two brothers: Frank (Marjorie), Aubrey (Bernice); step-brother Dolf Wiseman (Vivian); six sisters: Mal Pippard, Levine (Al Cullimore), Mary (Frazer) Morgan, Lucy Hawley, Gertrude (Doug Elton), Margaret Rose, step-sister Ruth Payton; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Eli has been a long time member of the Avalon Lodge, Neptune Lodge, as well as an honourary member of Lodge Conception; also a WWII Veteran serving with Royal Navy and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch I. At his request, cremation has taken place. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home on Friday, April 4 from 10:00 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 from 10:00 - 12 noon. Funeral Service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Upper Gullies at 2:00 p.m. with Interment at The Field of Honor, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. SOMERTON, John M. – Passed peacefully away on April 2, 2008 at the Health Sciences Complex, John Somerton, age 83 years. Predeceased by his parents Samuel and Anna Somerton and sister Cecilia Snow. Leaving to mourn nieces Elizabeth Gosse, Carolann Durdle (Barry), Linda Emerson (Rocky), Josephine Alyward (Mike), Robin McLean (Gary); nephews Ron Snow and Rick Snow (Joanne); great-nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends, especially those at Cluney’s Restwell Manor, Kelligrews. STRUGNELL, Lawrence Edmund – Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, April 3, 2008, Lawrence Strugnell, age 78 years. Predeceased by his wife Julia (nee Surette) . Leaving to mourn three daughters: Debbie Crane (Dave), Pauline Sainsbury (Les), and Rose Stephens (Dean); four sons: Tom (Mary), Eddie (Jean), Andy (Diane), and Ken (Joanne); twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister Minnie Abbott; brother George (Helen); also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. BYRDE, Michael Joseph – Passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the Health Sciences Centre, age 81 years. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Jane, brother Richard, sister-in-law Hannah, brother-in-law Harold Fowler, niece Joanne Smith and son-in-law Kevin Heffernan. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Monica (Sampson) of 58 years, his extensive family circle of five sons and four daughters Tony (Patricia), Rosemarie (Gordon) Meade, Harold (Annette), Michael (Joy), Monica (Sean) Doyle, Gerard (Bonnie), Geraldine, Catherine (Brian) Harris and Joseph (Antonella), ten grandchildren Karen (Desi) Linehan, Janet (Brian) Healey, Andy, Nadine (Jason) Penney, Jonathon Heffernan, Megan Doyle, Harold, Charlene, Kevin, Toni Marie Harris, Five great grandchildren Zara and Adam Penney, Allan Linehan, Noah Healey, and Lana Byrde, all a constant source of strength, joy and love for him over the years. BUTLER, C. Gordon – Passed peacefully away on March 1, 2008 in his 93rd year. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Mary (Bishop), one daughter Lela Cook, sons: Eric (Betty), Charles and Roger of St. John’s, William (Marjorie) of Mount Pearl, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, one brother Cyril of St. John’s, two sisters: Mary and Lillian of Ontario, also a large circle of family and friends. CRUMMEY, George Edward – Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Friday, February 29, 2008. George Edward Crummey aged 92 years. Predeceased by his parents, three sisters, and four brothers. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 68 years Sadie; niece: Sarah Reynolds; the son he never had: Carl (Sandy) their children Ryan and Erin; great nieces: Diane (Rex) their daughter Kara; and Dawn (Bob); great-nephew: Frank and his daughter Chelsea; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Our family will always cherish the wonderful memories with George and Sadie growing up together on Cook Street.
