July 25, 1935 - January 18, 2003

Passed peacefully away on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at the Agnes Pratt Home, Jean Anthony of St. John's, aged 67 years.
Born in St. John's, Newfoundland on July 25, 1935, she attended St. Michael's School. After helping her father write the script for the "Old, Old Story" radio program, working for Bill Foote's grocery and Woolworth's, in 1954 Jean met and she always joked that she "captured" U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Armine F. Anthony of Buffalo, New York, they married in 1957. Armine and Jean made their home in New York while enjoying many adventures until relocating to St. John's with their two teenage children, Mark and Elaine, in 1973. Jean was employed as cashier supervisor at Kmart Topsail Road until her "early" retirement in 1982. It was then she began honing her gardening skills and developing her "townhouse" oasis for all to enjoy over the next 20 years. Jean was especially proud of the birth of her first granddaughter, Tina, in 1979 with whom she nurtured a lasting and special love. Jean also enjoyed traveling to the States to visit her daughter's home, cooking and shopping at "The Village", or anywhere else her two feet could take her. Jean received excellent loving care from the staff, at all levels, at The Agnes Pratt Home, for which her family is most grateful.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Catherine (Hogan) Hollett in 1948, her grandmother Jessie (King) Hollett in 1959, and her special Aunt Marjorie (Hollett) Kennedy in 1999. She leaves her dearly beloved husband of 45 years, Armine, of the Agnes Pratt Home, St. John's, her son Mark (Mt. Pearl), daughter and best friend, Elaine Anthony (Dale Myers) of Annapolis, Maryland; granddaughters Tina Anthony (Paradise) and Chancey Anthony (Calgary, Alberta); daughter-in-law Rosalind (Paradise); her father, William (Lily) Hollett of St. John's; sister Harlene Gudgeon of Columbia, South Carolina and Joy Barrett of Labrador City, Labrador; brothers David (Effie) Hollett of Goose Bay, Labrador, Clayton (Wilma) Hollett of Alexandria, Virginia and Robert (Catherine) Hollett of Goulds; special cousins Delores (Ray) Jones of Gander and Linda (Jim) Graham of Toronto, Ontario; Armine's seven sisters in the U.S.; numerous nieces and nephews across North America, and very special friends Barbara Pries of Buffalo, New York, with whom she traded famous photos and post cards, and Mary Abbott of St. John's, her companion and walking buddy.
Friends may call at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's, Newfoundland (709) 579-6007 on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 2:00pm at West End Baptist Church, Topsail Road, followed by Christian burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, James Lane, St. John's, Newfoundland. Immediately following the burial a Celebration of Life will be held at the Gathering Square, at the Agnes Pratt Home, 239 Topsail Road. All are welcome.
