As well, she was employed at Government House, St. John`s and following retirement loved to attend their 'garden parties'. ANDERSON, Jean - Age 82 years, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph`s Hospice on Wednesday, September 26, 2001. Born Jean Chancey in St. John`s, Newfoundland on July 1, 1919, she was raised and educated there. She enjoyed her work as a transportation secretary at the U.S. Army base in St. John`s during WWII, then later worked at The Bank of Commerce where she met her husband-to-be. In 1947, Jean married
Andrew 'Duke' Anderson of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. After their children, Charlie and Janet, were born, Jean and Duke moved to Cornwall, Ontario, then to Halifax, Nova Scotia and, later, to Clarkson (Mississauga), Ontario. Duke retired from the bank in 1971 and, at last, they settled in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia where they enjoyed a retirement surrounded by family and friends. After Duke passed away, Jean joined her daughter, Jan, and son-in-law, Ron Saddington, when they bought their first old house in St. Catharine`s, Ontario in 1981. When they moved to Thunder Bay in 1983, Jean was persuaded to come along for the adventure! She was every young family`s dream, a loving, wise and energetic 'third parent' to her two small grandsons, Andrew and Charlie, as well as an extraordinary cook, skilled homemaker and entertaining storyteller! Jean`s son, Charlie Anderson, of Vancouver, B.C. along with his children, Ted, Duke and Merida and his partner, Lynn Buntain, will miss Jean very much. Jean`s brother, Bob Chancey and his wife, Gwenda, of St. John`s and Jean`s sister-in-law Marion Edwards and her husband, Bob, of Annapolis Royal also mourn Jean`s passing. Jean was a special aunt to her Anderson and Chancey family nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the dedicated health care professionals whose skills allowed Jean to live as active a life as possible: Dr. David Legge, Dr. Paul Dupuis, Dr. Morris Mymko and Dr. John Hargadon. And, finally, our thanks to the superb nursing team at St. Joseph`s Hospice, led by Dr. Geoff Davis and Dr. Kevin Miller, who gently cared for her needs at the end. In addition, a loving thank you goes to Jean`s dear friend, Anne Hargadon. Sincere thanks, as well, to Rev. David Sparks, to all Jean`s V.O.N. nurses and to her energetic and caring V.O.N. personal care workers, Leila Kuitunen and Alice de Sousa. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Lillian Chancey, and her brother, James Chancey, all of St. John`s, Newfoundland. Cremation has taken place and, according to Jean`s wishes, a private gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Interment will occur at a later date in Annapolis Royal. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to The Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Foundation or to the Salvation Army.
