WHELAN, James J. (Sr.) - passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2000 at the Health Sciences Centre, James J. Whelan, age 65 years. Predeceased by his mother Ruby in 1990 and his brother Bill in 1992. Leaving to mourn wife Ruth; two sons: Jimmy, Gordon (Lisa) and four daughters: Cynthia (Paul), Lana (Todd), Gloria and Nicole; three grandsons: Joel, Nickolas and Coady; and five granddaughters: Candace, Jillian, Lauren, Gabriella and Hayley; two brothers: Bob (Carol), Frank (Joanne) and many relatives and special friend Cyril Parrell. The funeral services took place on Tuesday, September 26, 2000.

MOULAND, Howard - Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on October 2nd, 2001, Mr. Howard Mouland in his 73rd year. Predeceased by parents Fred and Fanny Mouland. THOMPSON, Mrs. Brigadier Rita Beulah (nee Howell) - Passed peacefully away at Smith`s Country Villa, Shearstown, on Sunday, June 22, 2003 of Bay Roberts, aged 90 years. Predeceased by her husband Brigadier Clayton Thompson. Leaving to mourn step-daughters Dallas Stagg, Grand Falls; Glenys (Lawrence) Oxford, Winnipeg; Glenda (Freeman) Cull, Englee; stepsons: Hollis (Ruby), Appleton, Milton (Daphne), Springdale, Graham, Gambo; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bay Roberts with visitation on Monday 10 a.m.- 12 noon, 2-5 p.m. 7-9:30 p.m. and Tuesday 10 a.m.-12 noon. FEWER, Mary T. (nee Sceviour) - 1907-2001. Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Health Sciences Centre on April 12, 2001, Mary T. Fewer in her 94th year. Predeceased by her husbands, Nicholas McGrath (1951), Peter Lyons (1963), and Bernard Fewer (1996), her son-in-law John J. Corbett (2001), and great-grandson Corey Doran (1994), and two great-granddaughters, Peggy and Hilda McGrath, six brothers: Jack, Bill, Frank, Charles, Tom and Joe, and one sister Sarah. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are six children: Mary Corbett, Chapel`s Cove; Raymond McGrath (Margaret), Avondale; Loretta Johnson, Arkansas; Joe McGrath, Manuels; Ann Ghaney, Avondale; and Geraldine Lewis (Charles), Colliers with whom she resided; seven step-children: Marion, Ellen, Patricia, Patrick and Peter Lyons, and Elizabeth and Bernard Fewer; her 40 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Also three sisters-in-law, Margaret Doyle, Louise O`Flaherty, and Katie Hennessey, all of Avondale, and special friend Marion Lewis of Chapel`s Cove, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Dunphy`s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-10 p.m. on Easter Sunday. FINN, Brendan M. - 80. died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at home, Pawley`s Island, S.C., U.S.A. Mr. Finn was born in St. John`s, NL on July 29, 1922, the son of the late Michael John Finn and Catherine A. Murphy Finn. He retired as a Liability Engineer with General Motors Corp. after thirty years of service. Mr. Finn moved to Pawley`s Island in 1983, where he was a member of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Sea Gull Golf Club, the Three County Seniors Golf Assn., and the Grand Strand Grasshopper Club. Survivors include his wife Kathleen - Kitty˛ A. Finn of Pawley`s Island, S.C.; a daughter, Maureen M. Finn of New York, N.Y.; two sons: James M. Finn and his wife Noreen of Rochester Hills, Mich. and Brendan P. Finn of Pawley`s Island, S.C.; two granddaughters: Mary Frances Finn and Peggy Finn; two sisters: Mary F. Enright of Long Island, N.Y. and Angela Power of St. John`s, NL; three brothers: John Finn and Michael Finn, both of St. John`s, NL and Joseph Finn of Cincinnati, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday morning, April 5, 2003 at ten-thirty o`clock at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick J. Stenson. SIMMONDS, Phyllis Mildred (nee Cuff) - On June 20, 2003 we lost a dear friend, a very kind, considerate and compassionate woman. Our mother Passed peacefully away at her home in her 81st year. Predeceased by her husband Hugh Reginald (Reg) Simmonds (St. John`s). Her Parents (Ben and Hattie Cuff) of Bonavista. Brothers Don and Calvin Cuff of Bonavista. Survived by one sister Gertie Keel (Herber John), Sisters-in-law Vi Barnes (Wallace), Betty Oake (Ray), Phyllis Dilworth (Frank). Leaving to mourn 5 daughters: Peggy Best (Allan), Bev Urquhart (Donald), Jean Penney (Wilson), Brenda Howell (Tony) & Janice Simmonds; one son William B. Simmonds (Johanne); 8 grandchildren (Stephen & Nicole) (Craig & Cathy), (Dale & Dawn) (Christopher & Craig); four great-grandchildren (Matthew & Haley Thistle), (Brett Urquhart), (Kayla Morey). She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. A private family service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2003 at Cowan Heights United Church and will be officiated by the Rev. Bruce Kearley. A native of Little Harbour Deep, White Bay, she lived her adult life in St. John`s, Salt Pond (Embree) and Lewisporte. She leaves to mourn step-daughter Phoebe Scott, Toronto; stepsons: Cecil Small (Louise), Amherst, N.S. and Lorne Small (Jean), Middle Sackville, N.B.; sister Julia Parsons, Deer Lake; step-daughters-in-law: Vera Small, Gander and Marion Small, Lewisporte; sisters-in-law: Della Newman, Grand Falls-Windsor, Lucy B.
