WINTER, Hon. Gordon O.C., LL.D, 1912 - 2003- passed away at home on August 1, 2003, Gordon A. Winter. Predeceased by his daughter Valda Tiller in 2001. Left to mourn their loss but thankful for many happy memories of his long life his loving wife of 65 years, Millicent (Bump); his daughter: Linda Barrett (David); his grandchildren: Valerie Hodder (Craig), Keith Barrett (Dianne Penney), Toronto, ON, Ian Barrett (Genevieve Zoskey), Calgary, AB, Lesley Smith (Alex), Corner Brook and Jennifer Harding (Dan), Burlingame, CA.; his seven great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Dr. William Tiller (Susan Harris); sister, Barbara Strang, Victoria, B.C.; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Winter, Mett Winter and Florence Rusted (Dr. Nigel). Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Visiting hours from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Funeral will take place from St. Thomas` Anglican Church on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. Interment at the Anglican cemetery, Forest Rd. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or a charity of one`s choice.

Predeceased by her husband William Kingsley Elms in 1982; her parents William and Fanny French, Coley`s Point; and her brother Captain Harry French and his wife Pearl, St. John`s. Leaving to mourn but cherishing many happy memories, are her sons: Byron (wife Mona) and David (wife Anita), Country Road; daughter Isabel (husband Wayne Gifford), Paradise; grandchildren: Steven (wife Megan Holsapple), Sean and David Elms, Lori and Trevor Elms, Kingsley and Charlotte Gifford; sisters: Vera (Roy) Baird, Long Pond, Carrie (Robert) Duffett, St. Philips; brothers: Frank (Ethel) French, Stephenville, William (Greta) French, Coley`s Point; sisters-in-law: Florence Moore, Clarke`s Beach, Winifred Elms, Harbour Grace; brothers-in-law: Clement (Eileen) Elms, Gander, Lorne (Eileen) Elms, Gander. Remains resting at Ryan`s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. Visitation hours: Friday, February 6 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, February 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Immaculate Conception Church, Cape Broyle on Saturday, February 7th at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Cape R.C. cemetery, Cape Broyle.

Leaving to mourn; four sons and four daughters, Vern (Melba), Fred (Mary), Ron (Bea), Darrell (Brenda), Marjorie Gosse (Raymond), Phyllis Moore (Irving), Jean Pinsent (Wayne), Betty MacIsaac (Larry); fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, brother John Moore, sister Elsie Mills, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Resting at Warren`s Funeral Home, Dildo. The funeral service will be held from the Salvation Army Citadel, Trinity Bay South Corps on Saturday June 1 at 2 pm. Interment to follow at the Salvation cemetery, Dildo. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one`s choice.

Her special nephews Nathan and Taylor, her aunts Beverly Power (Marvin), Aggi Westcott (Craig), Sue Finlay (Dan), Roxanne Ward, Jean White (Jerome), uncles Jerome Ward, Pat (Edwina) Ward, Greg Ward (Marilyn), Vince Ward (Darlene), Randy Ward (Jeanie), Ray Costello (Jean), great uncles and great aunts, especially Mary Senior; very best friends Marsha, Dana, Alaine, and a wide circle of other friends including special friends at Memorial University. Remains resting at Fahey`s Funeral Home in Trepassey. Visiting hours on Saturday and Sunday June 1, 2 from 2-5 and 7-10. Funeral arrangements to be announced. 'We have all been touched deeply by your joy in life, Christa. You will always be loved and missed dearly.'

GILLETT, Ada (nee Ackerman) - Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick`s Mercy Home on Thursday, February 05, 2004, in the presence of her loving family, Ada Gillett age 91 years. Predeceased by her husband Maxwell; brother Caleb Ackerman and sister Gertrude March. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughters: Barbara Hinchey (Morgan) and Dorothy Munroe (Russell), Halifax; sons: Douglas (Judith), Halifax and David (Marcella) and a very special great-granddaughter Alison Hinchey, as well as her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Ada was awarded life time membership to the UCW, George Street United Church. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-12 noon. Funeral service to take place on Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant cemetery. Leaving with greatest sadness daughter Cavell (St. John`s), son Rob (Brampton, Ont.), their mother Cavell Snow, one very precious grandson Christopher, mother Molly; seven brothers, Bill (Agnes), Jim (Kay), George (Debbie), Wally (Lil), Paul (Patsy), Charlie (Frankie), Tony (Wanda); four sisters, Daphne Strickland (Harv), Peg Grouchy, Linda Noseworthy (Ralph), Bev Noseworthy (Charlie); sister-in-law Irene; nieces and nephews; two God-children, Jamie Duke and Tara Snow; also a very special friend Edi Fitzgerald. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 5, 2000 at 2 p.m. from Barrett`s Chapel. Predeceased by her husband Con (1993); her brother Patrick Cahill (WWII); her sister Sarah Buckle; her daughter Geraldine Williams; her sons: Bill and James; her grandsons: Bill Lewis (Jr.) and Clayton Reese. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her family, 2 sons: Paddy (Bon), Larry (Waneta) of Avondale; three daughters: Annie Devereaux, Edmonton, AB, Gen (John) Kennedy, Irene (Clayton) Reese of Avondale; her brother Michael Cahill of Edmonton, AB; three sisters: Elizabeth Cook, Toronto, ON, Catherine Bennett, Cambridge, ON and Lucy Foley, Colliers and her three daughters-in-law: Mazie, Doreen and Julianne; her 26 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Resting at Dunphy`s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation on Thursday from 7-10 p.m. and on Friday from 12 noon - 10 p.m. Funeral will take place on Saturday, April 5th, 2003 following 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Assumption Church, Avondale. Interment will be in the family plot at Assumption cemetery, Avondale. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Assumption Parish Memorial/Restoration Fund.
