DAKIN, Emily (nee Murphy) - It is with deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing at the Lions Manor, Placentia on Thursday, February 5, 2004, of a dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and dear friend, Emily Dakin, aged 99 years, of Mount Carmel. Predeceased by her husband Henry Dakin; her sons: Edmund and Henry; and her daughter Norma Nolan; her sons-in-law: Harry Cooke, Bill Walsh, Jerome Nolan and Leo Hickey; her daughter-in-law Kitty Dakin. Left with fond and loving memories are her children: Michael (Betty), Mary Cooke, Florence Walsh, Marguerite Smilestein (Ruby), Imelda Hickey (Adrian), Willie Dakin, Fred Dakin (Stella); her 54 grandchildren; her 62 great-grandchildren and her 7 great-great grandchildren; her daughters-in-law: Margaret Dakin, Audrey Dakin and Nellie Dakin; numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends, including the residents and staff of the Lions Manor, Placentia. Resting at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel. Visitation on Friday from 12 noon - 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Funeral will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2004 with 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment will be in our Lady of Mount Carmel cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Building Fund, c/o Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish. She lives with us in memory and will for evermore.

ANGEL, Gerald Patrick (Gerry) - Passed peacefully away in the presence of his devoted family on Thursday, May 30, 2002 at St. Patrick`s Mercy Home, Gerald Patrick Angel (Gerry) in his 90th year. Predeceased by his wife, Irene, December 1999, and his daughter Reeni in February 1951. Left with fond and loving memories are his six children: Anna Woolgar, Gerry Jr. (Regina), Bob (Roseanne), Catherine (Bob Squires), Pat (Libby), Dr. John (Ann); 16 grandchildren: David, Greg and Reeni Woolgar; Ashlee Angel; Allison and John-Paul Angel; Nancy, Robert Jr., Greg, Matthew and Mark Squires; Melissa and Jillian Angel; Doug, Christopher and Rebecca Angel; one great-grandchild, Jake Woolgar in California, USA. Many other family and friends, including, brother Stan in Norwich, England and special nephew Ron Chaytor in Ottawa, Ontario. Gerry was an active member of his community and church and in recognition of his volunteer services obtained a number of awards and distinctions including: Pope Paul VI - Image of the August Cross Award for Outstanding Work for the Church and Pope; member of the Royal St. John`s Regatta Committee Hall of Fame (1989); Honorary Life President of the Royal St. John`s Regatta Committee; member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame (1991); 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation Friday, Saturday and Sunday 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, June 3rd, 2002, at 9:45 a.m. from St. Pius Tenth Church, Smithville Crescent. ROGERS, Sylvia (nee Tucker) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Saturday, January 25, 2003, Sylvia Rogers of St. Philips, in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Joshua and son William. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughter-in-law Sue; grandchildren: Shawn, Kevin and Sabrina, and a large circle of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in the Anglican cemetery, St. Philips. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.

Leaving to mourn two sons: Albert (Brenda), Shawnigan Lake, BC and Stanley (Elizabeth), Topsail; six daughters: Linda (Clayton) Buckler, Mount Pearl, Marie (Clarence) Pelley, Stephenville, Beverley (James) Everard, St. John`s, Phyllis (James) Clark, Detroit, USA, Joan (Eric) Neil, Conception Bay South and Dianne Marshall, Freshwater, Carbonear; 19 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 4 brothers: Robert (Margaret), Freshwater, Carbonear, Cyril (Virtue), Grand Falls-Windsor, Lloyd (Marjorie), Carbonear and William (Louise), California, USA; 3 sisters: Nellie (John) Curro, Coeur d`alene, Idaho, USA, Florence (Elliott) Scott, Everett, Massachusetts, USA and Sadie Hunter, Grand Falls-Windsor; sister-in-law Vickie Marshall, Grand Falls-Windsor; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Resting at NOEL`S FUNERAL HOME, WATER STREET, CARBONEAR from where the funeral will take place on Thursday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the Gospel Hall cemetery, Carbonear. Leaving to mourn his sisters: Betty Scott (husband Scottie), their daughter Gloria and granddaughter Kristin; Madge McDonald, Joan Branton and Marg Brocklehurst; brothers: Robert (Clara) and Edward of Toronto; special nephew Allen; as well as a number of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. BARNES, Laura Jane (nee Burton) September 17, 1903 - August 3, 2003- Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex on Sunday, August 3, 2003, Laura Jane Barnes, aged 99 years. Predeceased by her husband Harold (1955), brothers Richard and Theodore and sister Mildred Wareham. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons Ted (Violet), Frank (Helen), with whom she resided; daughter Enid (Jim Strong); sister Marjorie Burton, sisters-in-law Isabel Barnes, Florence Burton and Lilian Burton; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. At mother`s request, cremation has taken place and family will be receiving visitors at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 1081 Topsail Road, Mount Pearl from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and from 10 a.m.-12 noon on Wednesday. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 6 at the St. John the Evangelist Church, Topsail. CRUMMELL, Ronald Douglas - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, May 30, 2002, Doug (Crummey), age 76. He was a retired employee of the CNR and Newfoundland Dockyard. Predeceased by his wife Daphne in 1995; his mother Alice; father Ronald and his brother George. Leaving to mourn their sad loss are his seven children: Bruce (Wenda), Bev, Brenda Butt (Bill), Barb Foster (Bob), Bonnie Corbett (John), Boyd (Cheryl), Blair Smith (Dave); ten grandchildren: Kelly, Krista, Darlene, Darryl, Kayla, Kyle, Kory, Colin, Nicole and Natasha; two great-granddaughters: Kourtney and Kaitlin; three brothers: Ralph (Sally), Walt (Dorothy), Dave (Sheila); three sisters: Olive Dinn, Hattie Pocha and Elizabeth Kavanaugh (Ed); two brothers-in-law: Lloyd (Kay) Norman, Dave Norman; sisters-in-law: Geraldine Oates (Jack) and Bessie Crummell; as well as other relatives and friends including those of the Witless Bay Line. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 7-10 p.m. on Thursday, from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday. Leaving to mourn daughters: Regina, Mary and Denise; sons: Bill (Tina), Randy (Nancy), and Russ (Laurie). Grandchildren: Christine, Stephen and Mark, Sylvana and Marla, Ryan, Laurissa and Erica, Alison and Jennifer, Christina, Michael and James as well as many other relatives and friends. Dear uncle of Debbie Dawe of London, Norval Organ and her husband John of Atlanta, Georgia and their children Catherine-Anne and Alexander. Also survived by many other nieces and nephews in Ontario and Newfoundland. Predeceased by two sisters and one brother. The funeral and committal service will be conducted in the Lloyd R.
