Phyllis Margaret (Robinson) Wadden
86, Port Morien
Phyllis Margaret (Robinson) Wadden, 86, of Seaview Manor, formerly of Port Morien, died peacefully Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Seaview Manor, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Port Morien, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Anne (Bagnell) Robinson.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Guild.
Mrs. Wadden is survived by two sons, Gordon “Buddy” (Valerie), Donkin, Wayne (Arlene), Port Caledonia; six daughters, Joyce (Ran) Daley, London, Ont., Delores MacLeod, Port Caledonia, Mora Walton, Glace Bay, Phyllis (Joseph) Marsh, Sydney, Alma (Cameron) MacPherson, Port Elgin, Ont., Muriel (Ron) Walsh, Brantford, Ont.; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Muriel MacDonald, Glace Bay and Beulah Martell, Mira.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 1991, brothers, Will, Tom and Charles, sisters, Annie MacKenzie, Alma Smith and Lillian Hickman.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 11 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Monday, March 13, 2000, at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien with Fr. Paul C. Findlay officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Black Brook, Port Morien.

Henry W. Dibbon
66, Louisbourg
Henry Walter Dibbon, 66, of Louisbourg, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Burin, Nfld., he was the son of the late William and Emily (Martin) Dibbon.
He was employed as a captain in the fishing industry most of his life. He was also a member of St. Bartholomew’s Parish, Louisbourg.
He is survived by his wife, the former Suzanne Evans; four sons, Henry (Darlene), Louisbourg, Melvin (Kay), Albert Bridge, Tommy (Nicole), Louisbourg and Bert (Emily), Louisbourg; one daughter, Mary (Mrs. Robert Kennedy), Newfoundland; three sisters, Liz (Mrs. Jack Drake), Lunenburg, Barbara (Mrs. Albert Baker), Newfoundland, Betrice (Mrs. Dave French), Newfoundland; one brother, Bert, Halifax, and nine grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sons, George, Harvey and Aubrey, two sisters, Lyma and Cybil and two brothers, Aubrey and Lemul.
Visitation was held Friday 7-9 p.m. at St. Bartholomew’s Parish, Main Street, Louisbourg. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 4 p.m. from the church with Fr. Paul Findlay officiating, under the direction of W. A. Chant Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Diabetes Association.
S. Gertrude MacIntosh
70, Bras d'Or
S. Gertrude MacIntosh, 70, a resident of Alder Point, Bras d’Or, passed away Friday, March 10, 2000, at her home.
Born in Bras d’Or, she was a daughter of the late Norman Michael and Kathryn (Nicholson) MacIntosh.
Gertrude graduated from Normal College, Truro, with ongoing continuing education at St. F.X. University. Her teaching career spanned 30 plus years, teaching at Bras d’Or, St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s and Georges River elementary schools, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or and the Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of several religious societies including St. Theresa, St. Anthony and Marian Helpers and gardening was her passion.
She is survived by brothers, Joseph, Bras d’Or, Peter, Shawville, Quebec; sisters, Grace (Wilfred) Bornais, North Sydney, Betty Baird, Calgary, Alta. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Anthony (Crock), John David (Jerry), John Luke (Johnny), Norman Alexander, sisters, Mary Henwood, Yvonne and infant sister, Joan.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Monday, 2 p.m. from St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, with the Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.
Miriam Helen MacKenzie
73, Florida
Miriam Helen MacKenzie, 73, died accidentally in St. Petersburg, Fla., Saturday, March 4, 2000.
Born in Blue’s Mills, Inverness County, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Angus and Mary Jessie (Ferguson) Morrison.
She became an American citizen after receiving her RN at Mass Memorial Hospital, Boston, Mass. She continued to nurse until she and her husband retired to Florida in 1994.
She is survived by three sisters, Barbara (Norman) MacRitchie, Weston, Ont., Annie (Gordon) Cann, Edmonton, Alta. and Evelyn Williams, Halifax, N.S.
She was predeceased by her husband, William MacKenzie,, a daughter, Evelyn and four brothers, Alex, John, Donald and George.
Visitation will be at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Whycocomagh, N.S., Monday, March 13 between 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Stewart United Church, Whycocomagh, Tuesday, March 14, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Anne McKnight and Rev. Gordon Cann officiating. Interment of the ashes will follow at the Stewartdale Cemetery.

Cecil Rideout
89, Neil's Harbour
Cecil Rideout, 89, of Neil’s Harbour, Victoria County, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born at Neil’s Harbour, he was the son of the late John Henry and Alice Maude (Fricker) Rideout.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Neil’s Harbour and was a retired fisherman. He was a former employee of H.B. Nickerson and Sons and for a time was fish buyer for Maritime Packers. He was also a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens’ Club.
He is survived by his daughter, Cecelia Lashambe, Dartmouth; stepdaughter, Muriel Flood, Mission, B.C.; son, Warren, Whitehorse, Yukon; sisters, Harriet Fricker, Neil’s Harbour, Gladys Foss and Ella Clarke, both in North Sydney; several nieces; nephews; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Martha Ellen Dowling, brother, Theodore and sisters, Irene and Mildred.
Visitation will be Monday in All Souls Chapel, Neil’s Harbour from 10-2 p.m. when funeral service will be held in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church with the Rev. Chris McCann officiating. Burial under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home will be in the parish cemetery.
Marjorie E. Smith
79, North Sydney
Marjorie E. Smith, 79, of the Northside Community Guest Home and a former resident of 26 Center St., North Sydney, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2000, at the Guest Home.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late James and Harriet (Hurley) Anthony.
Marjorie was a longtime switchboard operator at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
She is survived by one brother, Adrian, Ontario; three sisters, Regis Murphy, Annapolis, Md., Rita Miller, Shalimar, Fla. and Joan Anthony, Winnipeg. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Marcie Anthony, North Sydney; and by a very kind and special friend, Peggy MacDonald.
She was predeceased by brothers, Bernie and Jimmy, sisters, Marie, Nora and infant sister, Theresa.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Church with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.
