Ellen Jane Oakley
78, Sydney
Ellen Jane Oakley, 78, of 1467 George St., Sydney, passed away Sunday, Mar. 19, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James and Jemima (Howard) Oakley.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart Church, Mira Road. Ellen was involved with the Immaculate Heart Ladies Auxiliary and other various church activities.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Francis (Pat) Oakley, Petrolia, Ont., and Carey Robert (Sheryl Lynn), Marion Bridge, two sisters, Clara Pace and Laurel Buckingham, both of Sydney, five brothers, Walter, Carl, Howard, Gerald and Murray, all of Sydney, three grandchildren, Stuart Oakley, Calgary, Andrew Hedges, Oakville, Ont. and Jonathan Oakley, Marion Bridge and six great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Francis and a brother Bob.
The late Mrs. Oakley will have visitation on Tuesday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, main level. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart Church, Mira Rd. with Rev. Gary MacPherson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or Canadian Cancer Society.
Joseph L. O'Neill
62, Glace Bay
Joseph L. O’Neill, 62, of Six 8th Street, Glace Bay, passed away Friday, Mar. 17, 2000, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Patrick and Laura (MacDonald) O’Neill.
Joseph was a member of St. John’s Parish in Glace Bay. He was employed with the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years, retiring in 1979. Joseph served in the Vietnam War, he also was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. No. 125, New Aberdeen. He worked as a commissionaire for one year at the Lingan Power Plant.
Surviving are his wife, the former Emmeline Reynolds, son, Patrick, London, Ont., brother, Wishie (Ethel), Glace Bay.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Peggy and Anna and a brother, Pat.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. John’s Church, Glace Bay. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery, with Fr. Paul McGillivray officiating.
As an expression of sympathy for Joseph, donations may be made to the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Christian Andrew Joseph Paul

Christian Andrew Joseph Paul, 3 years old, of 86, Shore Road, Eskasoni, passed away Saturday, Mar. 18, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Ruby Paul and Robert Joseph Lewis of Eskasoni.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni.
Surviving are maternal grandparents, Edward Paul and Frances (John MacLellan) Paul-Dennis, paternal grandmother, Annette Marie Lewis, all of Eskasoni, four sisters, Francine Kelly Paul, Nadine Kelsey Marie Paul, Kirstin Dawn Marie Lewis, all of Eskasoni, Savannah Marie Johnson, Chapel Island, two brothers, Everette Stephen Joseph Paul and Hugh Edward Joseph Paul, both of Eskasoni, aunt, Stephanie Paul, Eskasoni, Godparents, Walter Patrick and Nicole Denny, Eskasoni.
Predeceased by one sister Coleen Angela Paul in infancy.
Visitation will be held after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the family residence, 86 Shore Road, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Church, Eskasoni, with Father Robert McNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the IWK or the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

Dorothy Redquest
70, Sydney
Dorothy “Dot” Redquest, 70, Sydney, formerly of Gabarus, passed away Sunday, Mar. 19, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney in 1929, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Annie (Murphy) Power.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Nick) DiPenta, Theresa Redquest and Marguerite (Fred) Tighe, all of Sydney, sons, Kenny (Chris) and Ranny (Mary), both of Sydney, five grandchildren, Jason, Kyle, Michael, Amanda and Stephanie.
Predeceased by her husband Steve, sisters, Hannah, Margaret, Theresa, brothers, Maurice, Bernie and Bill.
The late Mrs. Redquest will have visitation today (Monday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, main level. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, with Rev. A. MacDougall officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sydney.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arthur Raymond Warren
73, Sydney
Arthur Raymond Warren, 73, of Spruce Street, Sydney, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Newfoundland, he was a son of Mrs. Myrtle (Pelly) Warren, Ontario, and the late Donald Warren.
He was a veteran of Second World War and member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128, Whitney Pier. He retired from Sydney Steel in 1992 and was a heavy equipment operator at one time. Arthur was active the sport of harness racing.
Arthur is survived by one daughter, Linda, companion Donald Abbott, Sydney, two sons, Raymond (Louise), Ontario, John (Moose) (Mary), New Waterford, four grandchildren, Derrick, Scott and Sean Warren, Kristopher MacInnis, one great-grandchild, BrayLeigh and a sister, Ruth (Henry) Paul, Ontario.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Cora Elizabeth Emberly and a brother, Donald Warren Jr.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel with Capt. Morris Vincent officiating.
Milton A. AuCoin
82, Cheticamp
Milton A. AuCoin, 82, of Pere Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2000, at the guest home.
Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Murdock AuCoin and Elizabeth (AuCoin) AuCoin.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. He served on several ships during the battle of the Atlantic. He was on board the HMCS Assinibone during the EPIC battle of the sinking of the German Submarine U-210.
He was a member of the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association and a member of the Atlantic CPOS Association. He was a past founding member of Cheticamp Development Association and an active member of Cheticamp AA. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 32, Cheticamp.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Louise Chiasso; son, Eddie, Nanaimo, B.C.; daughter, Mary (Mrs. Maurice Doucet), Cheticamp; sister, Florence (Mrs. Leo P. Chiasson), Antigonish; five grandchildren, Blair, Lisa, Blaine, Nadine and Ken and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four brothers, Clifford, Willie, Angie and Joseph Edmond.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be offered today (Tuesday) at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to Pere Fiset Guest Home, Cheticamp.
