W. David Morley
56, Sydney
W. David Morley, 56, of 447 Kings Road, Sydney, N.S., passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Wednesday, March 22, 2000.
A member of First United Church, Sydney, he was the chosen son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James J. Morley of Sydney.
Educated in Sydney schools, he was a graduate of University College of Cape Breton and St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish.
He was employed by Maritime Tel and Tel for several years and after graduation from university was public relations director for AECL at the Glace Bay heavy water plant. After a period with the Children’s Aid Rehabilitation Program he spent some years in the taxi and tourism business. In later years he was associated with the Island Career Academy in the placement of students.
He is survived by Doris A. Morley, Sydney, Charles F. (Ann) Morley, Liverpool, N.S., Alice (Norman) Bringle, Alaska, Judith (Doug) MacQueen, Sydney, Ruth (Robert) Jamieson, Liverpool, Charles A. (Sandra) Morley, Dartmouth, N.S.
There will be no visitation, cremation will take place.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. Douglas Pillsworth of First United Church.
Richard David Boutilier
56, Sydney
Richard David Boutilier, 56, of O'Neil Road, Sydney, passed away at home, on Thursday, March 23, 2000.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Margaret (Timmons) O'Neil of Coxheath and the late Theodor Boutilier.
He was an adherent of Sydney River United Protestant Church. Richard was a long time employee of J.R. MacDonald, Sydney, and more recently was employed by Christie Brown & Company.
Besides his mother, left to mourn are his wife, Louise; sister, Valerie (Fred) Carter, New Minas; grandmother, Mrs. Rose Timmons, Coxheath and a large number of uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 with a funeral service held at Sydney River United Protestant Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Alan McIntosh officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Sheila Duguid
75, Sydney
Sheila Duguid, 75, of Townsend Street, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Thursday, March 23, 2000.
Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John Christie and Mary Jane (Michie) Duguid.
She was a member of St. Andrews United Church, the St. Andrews Senior Choir, and a former member of the UCW. Sheila served in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the Second World War.
Sheila is survived by her husband, Douglas; daughters, Valerie (Ian) Torrance, Dunblane, Scotland, Linda (John) Grant, Cumbernauld, Scotland, Debra (Brian Young), Hammonds Plain, N.S., Rhoda Duguid (Ronald MacDonald), Cumbernauld, Scotland, and Alison (Ronald) Lawrence, Glace Bay; son, Bryan (Andrea), Oromocto, N.B.; sister, Nora Gauld, Aberdeen, Scotland; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Peggy, Molly, Bella, and EtheI, brothers, John, Lionel, Alex, and Stanley, and a grandchild, Bryan Grant.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service held at St. Andrews United Church Monday 11 a.m. with Sharon Irving and Rev. Dale Irving officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or St. Andrews United Church Senior Choir.
Ada Gertrude Gouthro
70, Glace Bay
Ada Gouthro, 70, of Glace Bay, passed away following a long illness, Friday, March 24, 2000, at Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (MacRitchie) Turner.
She resided at 9-D Jessome St. for many years.
Mom was a loving and caring person who will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Ada is survived by her daughter, Marjorie and son-in-law, Bill Forgarty, Sydney; grandsons, Allan and Shawn, Sydney. She is also survived by a sister, Marjorie (Robert) Black, Ontario; brother, George (Vivian) Kentville, N.S.; brother-in-law, Joe O'Brien and several nieces and nephews.
Ada was predeceased by her husband, Charles in 1985, granddaughter, Valerie Lynn, sisters, Elizabeth (Sis) and Dorothy (Dot) O'Brien, who died just hours before her and a brother, David.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 25, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
Funeral will held Sunday, March 26, 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay with Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Angus MacSween
73, Glace Bay
Angus MacSween, 73, of 830 Main St., Glace Bay, died at the Glace Bay Heath Care Complex, Friday, March 24, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Frank and Flora (MacInnis) MacSween.
Angus had been employed over the years as a carpenter first with his father, Frank and later with his uncle, John A. MacSween, two noted building contractors in the local area. Angus was a member of St. Anne's Parish and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews in Ontario and also by a number of cousins.
He was predeceased by brothers, Alex, Adrian, Edmond and John Joe, sisters, Josie, Theresa and Margaret.
There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment in the family plot in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Dorothy (Dot) May O'Brien
56, Glace Bay
Dorothy (Dot) O'Brien, 56, of 377-R King Edward St., Glace Bay, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at the QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the adopted daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude Turner, she was a member of St. Ann's Church, Glace Bay.
Dot is survived by her husband, Joseph; two sons, Todd (Andrea) and Jamie (Alice), both of Kitchener, Ont.; daughters, Shelly (Allen), Sherry (Eddie), both of Glace Bay. Her father and stepmother, Earl and Elizabeth McNeil; eight grandchildren; sisters, Margie (Robert) Black, Trenton, Ont., Joan and Julliet, both of St. Catharines, Ont., Florence (Billie) Gracie and Susan Gracie, both of Glace Bay; brother, George, Kentville, N.S.
Dot was predeceased by her mother, Eva Weatherbee, brother, David, sisters, Elizabeth Neary and Ada Gouthro.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 26, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
Funeral will be held Monday, March 27 at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery.
