Margaret (Daley) Brown
Dominion
Margaret Brown, 78, of Seaview Manor and formerly of 53 Park St., Dominion, passed away Monday, March 27, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Minnie (Gallant) Daley.
Margaret was a loving and caring mom, grandmother and friend.
Surviving are daughters, Anne (Terry) Murphy, Lynn (Enzo) DiMarco, both of Saint John, N.B. and Chickie (Francis) HilI, Dominion; sons, Mickey (Gerry), Charlottetown, P.E.I., Alan (Helen), Dale (Brenda), both of Dominion and Stevie, Reserve; brother, Walter (Rita) Daley, Dominion; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Henry James (Jamer), sisters, Mary (Duck) McKenzie, Mary (Chick) Gard, brothers, Fabian, Vince, Basil and Bernard.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Brown was held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, and will be held today (Wednesday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Robert Clark
82, Sydney Mines
Robert Clark, 82, of 35 DeMarco St., Sydney Mines, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born at North Sydney, he was the son of the late Thomas and Annie (Reid) Clark.
He was a member of St. Pius X Parish and was a retired miner. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rose DeMarco; daughters, Mary (Mrs. Thomas Ryan), Sydney Mines, Marie (Mrs. Klaus Weisner), Ontario; sons, Robert (Rose) Sydney Mines, Francis (Jean), Montreal; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by brothers, Harry, Gordon, Georgie and Joseph and sisters, Mary and Rebecca.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
James Albert Turner
90, Baddeck
James Albert Turner, 90, Baddeck, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, in Alderwood Rest Home.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late James Turner and Alice (Winnard) Turner.
He was a member of the St. Peter-St. John Anglican Church, Baddeck. He was an accountant for Dominion Coal Company retiring as comptroller in 1970. He worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Mines from 1970 to 1974. He was a consultant to the Provincial Expropriation Board until 1984. He had many and varied interests, including photography, fly-fishing, carpentry, gardening and ham radio.
He is survived by his wife, the former Anne Boyce; son, John, New Harris; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by sister, Mary Jackson, brother, Arch Deacon J.T. Turner.
The body is resting in MacAskill Funeral Home, visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, March 30. Funeral 11 a.m. Friday, March 31, in St. Peter-St. John Anglican Church, Baddeck with Rev. Brenda Drake-MacDonald officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Fiorentino (Nook) Villa
76, New Waterford
Fiorentino (Nook) Villa, 76, of 782 Downe St., New Waterford, passed away suddenly Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of Mary Villa and the late James Villa, Ontario.
Nook, a retired miner and a veteran of the Second World War, was a member of the Army, Navy and Airforce Unit 217, New Waterford. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved to spend time at his bungalow in Loch Lomond.
Mr. Villa loved and cherished his wife of 53 years, Mildred (Gouthro) Villa, who predeceased him in 1998.
He was the central figure of a large, devoted family and will be deeply missed by sons, Jimmie (Melissa), Glace Bay, Robert (Charlene) and Kevin, both of New Waterford; daughters, Yvonne (John) Thomson, Ontario, Mildred (Ollie) Wilson, Dartmouth, Ann Marie (Steve) Ansell, Ontario, Debbie (Don) Peckham and Lucille (Dave) MacIsaac, both of New Waterford; three brothers, Art, New Waterford, Charlie, Sydney and Lawrence, Ontario and by one sister, Lucille (Michael) Nearing, Ontario.
Predeceased by one brother, Nuffrey, Ontario.
Grandpa will also be missed by 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in McLellan Bros. Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday with Fr. Lester Marchand officiating. Burial in the Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the N.S. Lung Association.
Lucy (Brogan) Beddow
88, North Sydney
Lucy (Brogan) Beddow, 88, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the home.
Born April 7, 1911, in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Lucy (Dawson) Brogan and the late James Brogan of England. Lucy was loved by all and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her husband, William, Sydney Mines; daughter, Lucille Nicholson, Sydney Mines; sons, James, North Sydney, William Jr., Ontario, Ronald (Linda), Gregory (Daria) and Edward (Darlene), all of Ross Ferry. Also surviving are her 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by several aunts and cousins in the U.S.A.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Hilda and Edna and by one brother, Ted. Also one infant son and one infant grandchild.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with the Rev. Brenda Drake-MacDonald officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Trinity Cemetery, Shore Road, Sydney Mines.
Paul Alfred Chiasson
Cheticamp/Oshawa, Ont.
Suddenly at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa, on Friday, March 17, 2000, Paul Chiasson in his 71st year.
Beloved husband of Helen (nee MacDonald), formerly of New Waterford. Dear father of Dave and his wife Lisa. Lovingly remembered by his grandson, Paul.
He was predeceased by his parents, Pat and Helen Chiasson, Cheticamp and his brother, Cyril.
Cremation took place. Interment in Oshawa, Ont.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
