Robert R. (Bob) Gale
Halifax, N.S.
Robert R. (Bob) Gale passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, following a lengthy illness.
Beloved husband of Jane (Morison); loving father of Jennifer (Gary Weidhaas) and Robert M.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Chief Justice G.A. Gale and Harry Gale.
Born and brought up in Vancouver, he joined the RCNVR and served on the Pacific Coast, the Atlantic and the Belfast Gibraltar Run. He came to Halifax in 1963 with Royal Securities and retired in 1987 from Richardson-Greenshields. Always interested in the navy, he belonged to the Navy League, the Naval Benevolent Society and the Naval Officers Association. He was a long time member of the Halifax Club and the RNSYS. An active man who participated in sailing and skiing with his family. A very kind man with a quick wit and engaging smile. He will be sadly missed by his family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Barrington Street. Reception to follow at the RNSYS on Purcell’s Cove Road.

John R. (Jack) Harrietha
61, Mill Creek
John R. (Jack) Harrietha, 61, a resident of Mill Creek, died surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Mill Creek, he was a son of the late Joseph and Molly (Waugh) Harrietha.
He was employed for many years as a service technician with Sears Canada. He was a member of Our lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney. Jack as a member of the Point Aconi Community Development Association, a charter member and life member of the Bras d’Or, Florence and Area Kinsmen Club. He was an avid sportsman.
Surviving are his wife, the former Theresa (Gonie) Boutilier; one daughter, Barbara (Carl) Morgan, North Sydney; three sons, John (Arlene), Sydney Mines, Chris and Robert, at home; grandchildren, Rose, Chris and Carl Morgan, Kayla and John Ryan Harrietha; great-grandchildren, Kerri and Brian Harrietha; three sisters, Margaret Harrietha, Irene Rideout, both of Mill Creek, Pat Carey, North Sydney; two brothers, Mick (wife Nettie) Harrietha, Mill Creek and Joseph (Andy) Harrietha, St. Catherines, Ont.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Josie O’Shea and Velma Bona, a brother, Dan Harrietha and a brother in infancy.
Visitation today (Wednesday) 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Friday 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with the Rev. Peter Piva officiating. Burial to take place in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
Madeline Lamey
67, New Victoria
Madeline Lamey, 67, of 17 Hilda St., New Victoria, passed away peacefully at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, Monday, Jan. 31, 2000.
She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Hilda (Brown) McDonald.
She was a life long resident of New Victoria and was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish. She held all offices of the CWL and Altar Society and also served on the parish councils. She was a past member of the VON Board, having served for 15 years. She was the post master at New Victoria Post Office for 25 years. Madeline greatly enjoyed a game of cards and researching her family tree.
She is survived by her husband, David; three sons, Paul and Sheldon, both at home and Warrant Officer John, Casteau, Belgium. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Phyllis and three grandchildren, Mark, Alicia and James; two sisters, Pauline McDonald and Irene MacKay, both of New Waterford and a foster brother, John Ryan, New Victoria.
She was predeceased by her eldest son, Joseph, brother, Leaman and a foster sister, Amelia Connell.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Lamey will be in the McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, this evening (Wednesday) 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria with Fr. Everett McDow officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the VON or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Members of the New Waterford Knights of Columbus are asked to assemble at the funeral home this evening (Wednesday) at 7:30 p.m.
Angus Archie (Buddy) MacDonnell
64, Long Point
Angus Archie (Buddy) MacDonnell, 64, of Long Point, formerly of Inverness, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Born at Inverness, he was the son of Mrs. Jessie MacDonnell of Inverness and the late Alex Neil MacDonnell.
He was employed with the No. 16 Colliery in New Waterford. He later joined the Canadian Armed Forces Black Watch and the Patricia Pats with 25 years of service. In his later years he went with the RCR stationed in Gagetown and Oromocto. Buddy was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 132 and a very big supporter of the Minor League Hockey of Port Hood.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Corbett; son, Neil James (Susan) MacDonnell, Lower Sackville; sister, Dodie (Mrs. Greg MacEachern), Scarborough, Ont.; three brothers, Peter and Nicky (Gloria), both of Scarborough, Ont. and John (Beverley), Ajax, Ont.; two aunts, Katie MacLeod, Broad Cove and Penny MacDonald, Halifax and two granddaughters, Mellissa Sue and Lora. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Martha Moore.
The late Mr. MacDonnell will have visitation from 7-9 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Alex MacLellan officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Florence (Tess) MacKenzie
98, New Waterford
Florence (Tess) MacKenzie, 98, Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, formerly of Mahon Street, New Waterford, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in the nursing home.
Born in Pictou County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John MacKinnon.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael (Mickey) MacKenzie; four brothers and one sister.
At Mrs. MacKenzie’s request, there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Graveside prayers will be said at a later date in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan.
Arrangements are under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, N.S.
Mary Ann McIsaac
88, New Waterford
Mary Ann McIsaac, 88, formerly of 245 Curran St., New Waterford and the Maple Hill Manor for the past four years, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Margaret Mary (MacDonald) McIsaac. She was a member of Saint Agnes Church. She loved music and played the piano.
She is survived by three daughters, Gloria (Mrs. Andrew MacNeil), Lorraine MacNeil, Mary (Tootsie) McIsaac, all of New Waterford; five sons, Alex (Henrietta), Scotchtown, Raymond (Olive), Glace Bay, Archie (Sue), Joe (Marg), both of Hamilton, Ont., Allan (Florence), New Waterford. Also survived by one sister, Margaret (Mrs. Raymond Power), Maple Hill Manor; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Allan in 1985, two sons, Angus and Allan, three sisters, Sarah Ann Martin, Laura Davidson and Susan and by three brothers, Angus, Duncan and Archie.
Visitation for the late Mary Ann McIsaac will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Thursday, 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. in Saint Agnes Church with Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
