Suzanne Theresa MacNeil Desrosier

Suzanne Theresa MacNeil Desrosiers, 72, of 3492 Wilson Ave., New Waterford, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, surrounded by her family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John James (Black Jack) and Mary Isabelle (Maisie MacDonald) MacNeil.
She was a lifetime member of St. Agnes Parish, New Waterford. Theresa was a devoted member of St. Agnes CWL and the Cape Breton Gaelic Society.
Surviving are her loving husband, William (B. George); seven sons, Greg (Cheryl), John (Wendy), Brent (Lana), Billy (Kathleen), Lawrence (Sonya), all of New Waterford, Neil (Cheryl), Boston, Kenny, Calgary; three daughters, Margaret (Tootsie) Oliver, New Waterford, Cathy (Fred Kerr), Toronto, Lisa (Barry Gillis), Halifax; a brother, Lawrence (Betty) MacNeil, Toronto; a brother-in-law, Peter MacNeil, Toronto; 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Neil (Calico), William (Kittens) and Ronald and three sisters, Elizabeth Pinsonneault, Catherine MacNeil and Margaret Lynch.
Theresa was a kind and gentle mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Agnes Church Building Fund.
Visitation will take place in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the time and will be announced Wednesday.
David Lawrence Sheppard
56, New Victoria / Sault St. Marie, Ont.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Sheppard of Sault Ste. Marie, Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Victoria, he was the son of John Sheppard and the late Elsie Sheppard. David moved to Ontario in his early years but enjoyed visiting ‘back home’ on a frequent basis. David’s heart will always remain in Cape Breton as he was a true ‘Caper’. David had a passion for the outdoors as fishing and hunting were his hobbies of choice. When visiting ‘home,’ David would enjoy spending his time laughing and being entertained with his grandnieces and nephews. ‘Uncle’ will be missed. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Pat; sister, Lorraine (Roger) Guyaux, New Victoria; and brother, Vince (Marilla) Sheppard, New Waterford. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl and brother, Brad. Visitation for the late David Sheppard will be held at the Northwood Funeral Home (705-945-7758), Sault Ste. Marie, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003. Funeral mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Eileen Patricia Nicholson

Eileen Patricia (Doran) Nicholson, 52, Sydney, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, peacefully at home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Janet (Wambolt) Doran.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her estranged husband, John Nicholson; daughters, Janet and Roberta, both of Sydney; granddaughters, Re-nee and Janis, both of Sydney; brothers, William, Charles, George (Jane), Ray, Richard (Elizabeth) and sisters, Ida, Erna, all of Sydney, Shirley (Randy) Wilson, Langley, B.C., Margaret (Patrick) Fitzgerald, Lingan Road, Charlotte (Keith) Pyne, Howie Centre, Charlene (Frederick) Pope, Halifax and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service from the chapel Thursday, time to be announced.

Wife of the late Wilbert W. Harris. Beloved mother of Ruby M. Harris, Eulene A. Harris and Marva P. Martin, all of Mattapan, M. Wayne Harris, Canada, Glen C. Harris, Mattapan, Lanetta C.A. Brunson, Brockton, Lloyd G. Harris, Boston, Lester R. Harris, Canada and the late Clarence O. Harris. Dear sister of Mable Ford, Canada. She is survived by eight grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 393 Norfolk St., Dorchester, visiting with the family at 10 a.m.

A memorial service for the late Douglas Perley Jeans will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Sharon Irving officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Louis Thomas George Sapier

Louie Sapier, 18 months, of 4686 Shore Rd., Eskasoni, died suddenly on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000.
Born at Sydney, he was the son of Michael Sapier of Eskasoni and the late Alexis (Marshall) Sapier. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Anastasia Rose and Kateri Marie Ann, both at home and a brother, Michael Jr. (Bubba), at home; maternal grandfather, Alexander Marshall, Chapel Island and grand-stepmother, Greta (Gloade) Marshall, Chapel Island. Also surviving by paternal grandmother, Viney Rose Sapier, Eskasoni and common-law grandfather, Louis Marshall.
Predeceased by maternal grandmother, Mary Anastasia (Gloade) Marshall.
The late Louie Sapier will have visitation at the family residence of Viney Sapier, Shore Road, after 7 p.m., Thursday. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Church with the Rev. Robert MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni, under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Sister Mary Catherine MacInnis

Sr. Mary Catherine MacInnis (Sister St. Joseph Miriam), Congregation of Notre Dame, Holy Angels Convent, Sydney, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at the Congregation Health Center, Sydney, in the 87th year of her life and her 65th year as a sister of the congregation.
Besides her religious sisters and a wide circle of friends and colleagues, she leaves to mourn a large extended family, in particular her three sisters, Veronica (George, deceased) MacLean, North Sydney, Agnes (Dan J., deceased) MacCormack, Westmount and Rita (Roderick) Bryden, Sydney and one brother, Dr. M. Vincent (Norma), Akron, Ohio. She is also the dearly loved and cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews and their families. She will be missed by them all.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph J. MacInnis and Margaret (MacNeil) MacInnis, Campbell Street, Sydney and by a brother, Joseph Roy, Sydney.
Sr. MacInnis graduated from Holy Angels High School and the Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro. After teaching school for one year at Meadows Road, she entered the congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal and made religious profession in August, 1934. She taught school in St. Joseph’s School, Mabou, Notre Dame School, Sydney Mines, Holy Redeemer Girls’ School and Don Bosco, Sydney. In 1958, she began teaching at Holy Angels High School, Sydney and continued in this Apostolate until her retirement from active teaching in 1973. She continued to volunteer at Holy Angels High School until 1999. She was also the archivist of Holy Angels Convent.
Sister was a graduate of Queens University, Kingston, Ont. She was involved in drama and speech during all of her professional life. For more than 20 years she organized the Kiwanis Speech and Drama Festival. She also tutored many young people in the art of speaking.
In her early years, Sr. MacInnis played the piano and was a regular accompanist for her father and other violinists of that time. In later years, she also assisted and taught piano to her grandnieces and nephews and to others who showed an interest in learning to play.
During her retirement years, she worked for the poor, using her sewing talents to make quilts which she donated to charity. A few years ago, Mr. Ira Balderson, the local director of the Salvation Army gave her a special award in recognition of her contribution of hundreds of quilts to the less fortunate.
Visitation will be at Holy Angels Convent, 170 George St., Sydney, Wednesday, Feb. 9, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A bible vigil will be held in the convent chapel at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at Holy Angels Chapel, Thursday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Jim Attwood officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
