Annie Beatrice MacKinnon
89, Balls Creek
Annie Beatrice MacKinnon, 89, a resident of Balls Creek, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her residence.
Born in Dominion, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (MacLean) Morley. She was a member of St. John Anglican Church, Point Edward.
Surviving are three sons, Russell, Gordon (Anne) and Danny, all of Balls Creek; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Annie Beatrice was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Joseph MacKinnon, one son, Freddie and an infant daughter, Charlotte Jane, two sisters, Ethel Hamm and Margaret Couture.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday in St. John Anglican Church, Point Edward with the Rev. James Purchase officiating. Burial to take place at Mitchell Island Cemetery, Point Edward.
Memorial donations may be made to any charity.
Mary Christena (Christy) King
83, Sydney
Mary Christena (Christy) King, 83, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Patricia Steele, Sydney.
Christy was a former resident of Northwood Center, Halifax and 100 Taylor St., Whitney Pier. She was a former parishioner of Holy Redeemer Church.
Born in Big Pond, Cape Breton on July 12, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Hugh A. and Margaret (MacIsaac) Gillis.
Surviving are six sons, Harold, Bob (Elizabeth), Reg (Liz), all of London, Ont., Paul, Kitchener, Ont., Bernie (Anne) and Joe (Shirley), both of Dartmouth, N.S.; three daughters, Margaret, Halifax, Joan (Paul Ouellette) McLennan, Alberta, Patricia (Bernie Steele), Sydney; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Michael "Mickey" (Rita) Gillis, Whitney Pier.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold (1990) and daughter-in-law, Ann King (1998), two sisters, Margaret and Cecilia, two brothers, Andrew and Danny.
Visitation for the late Mrs. King will be held Monday 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral will take place Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with the Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

Michael (Weldon) Chordis
76, Birch Grove
Michael (Weldon) Chordis, 76, of 1120 Main Street, Birch Grove, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Birch Grove, he was the son of the late Michael Sr. and Sadie (Marshall) Chordis. He was a member of the Salvation Army Glace Bay Citadel. He was employed with the Dominion Coal Company and Devco for forty-three years, working underground in No. 20 and No. 26 Collieries.
Mr. Chordis is survived by daughter Wendy Lynn (Mrs. Paul McDonald), Birch Grove, with whom he resided; son Gary James (Bobby) Chordis, Birch Grove; six grandchildren, Andy, Andela, Gary, Jammie Lynn, Donna, and Dale. Also surviving are sisters Kay and Annie, both of Ontario, and a brother Alex, Ontario.
Predeceased by his wife Loretta (Parson) Chordis; sister Viola and brother Roddie.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Glace Bay Citadel with Major Denzel and Kathleen Baggs officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay.

Michael Coleski
59, Sydney Mines
Michael Coleski, 59, 94 Young St., Sydney Mines, died Feb. 13, 2000, at home.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Frederick and Emma (Piercey) Coleski. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines, and was a retired miner from Prince Colliery.
Surviving are his wife, the former Madonna MacKinnon; daughters Mary, Jo-Anne, Sydney Mines, Michele, Banff, Alta.; sons, Devin, Chris, Mike, all of Sydney Mines, Blair (Leigh Ann), Vancouver, B.C., Gerard, Ronald, Edmonton, Alta.; 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Theresa (Mrs. Francis Hill), Point Edward, Marie (Mrs. Alfred Piercey), Veronica (Mrs. Calvin Newhook), Newfoundland.
He was predeceased by son Brian; sisters Sarah, Helen; brothers Joseph, Frank.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating.

Margaret Gould
86, Sydney
Mrs. Margaret Bonita Gould, 86, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney, and formerly of 8A Church St., Sydney Mines, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at the residence.
Born at Louisville, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bessie (Lewis) Coates, and was a member of the Louisville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Sandy O’Dell, Sydney Mines, brother Clifford, Bedford, N.S., grandson Graham, Akron, Ohio, granddaughter Heather, Halifax, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Hilton in 1974, her infant sister Phyllis and brothers George and Allison.
There will be no visitation by request. Committal services are under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home and will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Allison MacLean officiating.
Margaret Viola Hardy
70, Ingonish
On February 13, 2000, Margaret Viola (Jackson) Hardy passed away at Buchanan Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of James and Emeline (Noseworthy) Jackson. Margaret was a very generous, kind woman who opened her home to friends and family. She always had a meal ready. Margaret enjoyed family time especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to mourn are her husband of 51 years, George T. Hardy, her five daughters Judy (Vaughan Sams), Lynn (Chris Gorey) of Ingonish, Joan (Wilson Donovan) of Fredericton, Lori (Tim Doyle) of Truro and Anita (Cory Williams) of Sydney; grandchildren Cheryl (Johnny Buchanan), Shauna (George Donovan), Shaun (Susan) Donovan, Andrea Donovan, Michael and Shannon Gorey, Breigh Doyle and Gabrielle Williams; great-grandchildren Megan, Marley, John Tristan and Cody. Also surviving are one sister Evelyn (Gordon MacLeod) of Ingonish; brothers Leonard (Grace), George (Noreen) and Charlie all of Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Harry, Fred, John, Alfred and infant James.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish. Burial service to be held Wednesday, Feb. 16 from St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish at 1 p.m. Rev. Chris McCann and Rev. Weldon Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society or a charity of donors’ choice.
