Norena MacInnis
88, Baddeck
Norena MacInnis, 88, of Baddeck, South Cove, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Humes Rear, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Annie Matheson.
She was a housewife and mother. She was a member of Little Narrows Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, Calvin (Shannon), Oxbow, Sask.; five daughters, Jessie (Charles) MacKinnon, Little Narrows, Carman (Jack) MacKinnon, Hamilton, Ont., Evelyn (Wilson) Hebb, Baddeck, Marilyn (friend Wayne) Matheson, Aberdeen and Judith (Dennis) Nelson, Dartmouth, N.S. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Edna MacInnis, Hazeldale.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Peter, son, Daniel Angus and her sister, Agnes.
The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home with visiting hours 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Little Narrows Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lloyd Murdock and Rev. Anne McKnight officiating. Burial will be in Little Narrows Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospices Society, Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation.
William A. (Bill) Kernick
73, Sydney Mines
William A. (Bill) Kernick, 73, of 90 Shore Rd., Sydney Mines, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Archibald and Bertha (Quinn) Kernick.
He served in the Canadian Infantry in the Second World War. He was a member of Branch 19, Royal Canadian Legion, North Sydney for 43 years. In 1945 he joined Imperial Oil Deep Sea Tankers as a marine engineer and the remaining years on Imperial Sarnia sailing the St. Lawrence Seaway and Upper Lakes until his retirement in 1987. He lived in Sarnia for many years before returning to Sydney Mines in 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Anne (Cox); his daughter, Joanne Theresa, his granddaughter, Krystle Brooke and his son, William Joseph (Billy) and his wife Andrea, Brampton, Ont.; his brothers, Jim (Nina), Mississauga, David (Mary), Sydney Mines and his sisters, Betty, Anna and Marguerite Duncan, all in Sydney Mines and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Edward and his sister, Kathleen.
A private family visitation and prayer service will be held in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Mary Lorena (Rene) (Bona) Goswell
90, Shubenacadie
Mary Lorena (Rene) (Bona) Goswell, 90, of Shubenacadie, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Carol Goswell, Shubenacadie, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, in 1909, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Bessie (Jackson) Bona.
Mary (Lorena) was a graduate of Normal College, Truro, N.S.; a midwife and practical nurse of Richmond County; switchboard operator and supervisor at Beaverbank Air Force Base and later at Shearwater Naval Base. She will be lovingly remembered by many for her love of bingo, also of gardening, flowers, making pies, bread and biscuits, which she lavished on her many friends.
She was a member of St. Bridget's Parish in Shubenacadie and as a devoted Catholic made numerous trips to St. Ann's and one to Medjugorje.
She is survived by her sons, John (Carol), River Bourgeois, Harold (Carol), Shubenacadie; one daughter, Ann (John) Wells, St. Andrew's, N.S.; sister, Mary Ann Robertson, River Bourgeois; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her former husband, John Calder, companion, Gerald Collins, son, James Irvin, brothers, Paul, Robert, Edwin and Andrew, two grandsons and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) Feb. 26 and from 2 4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 with prayers at 7 p.m., all at Ettinger's Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 at St. Bridget's Parish with the Rev. Arthur Guthro S.A. officiating. Interment will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery.

Livain Joseph (Joe) Boucher
87, Glace Bay
Livain Joseph (Joe) Boucher, 87, of 66 Marconi Towers, RR No. 1, Glace Bay, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in St. Norbert, N.B., he was a son of the late Levi Boucher and Vena (Thibodeau) Boucher-Gero.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Parish, Glace Bay. He was employed as a boiler engineer for 25 years at the Sydney Airport. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of Tower Road branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and also a member of the Tower Road Volunteer Fire Department.
Joe is survived by one son, Joseph Paul, Tower Road; stepson, Peter Flint (Marilyn) Boucher, Black Brook; foster son, John Michael Brace, Ontario; grandchildren, Paulette Boucher Underhill, Hamilton, Ont., Lisa Buchanan, Halifax and David Boucher, Glace Bay; four great-grandchildren including Angela and Ashley.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Lottie Angela (Dot) (Flint) Boucher, son, Richard Callis Boucher and one brother in infancy.
Visitation will be in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. in St. Anthony's Church with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Susan P. (MacIntosh) Bezanson
83, Glace Bay
Susan Patricia (McIntosh) Bezanson, 83, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney, and formerly of Sterling Villa, 55 Minto St., Glace Bay passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Breton Bay Nursing Home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Cameron) Corrigan. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by family and many friends.
Susan is survived by daughters Cecilia McIntosh, Montreal, Sally (Percy) McDonald, Glace Bay and Kathy (Scottie) Moffat, Truro, sons, Martin McIntosh, Hamilton, John (Joan) McIntosh, Glace Bay and Tony McIntosh, Sydney, sisters Cecilia Ogilvie, Montreal and Mabel, Philadelphia, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her first husband Tony McIntosh in 1968 and her second husband John Bezanson in 1990, also by sisters Josie, Mary and Kathleen.
Visitation will be in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Tuesday 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery.

Erna Roberta Burns
86, Sydney
Erna Roberta Burns, 86, of Columbia Street, Sydney, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Mira Gut, C.B., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Flora (Martell) Phillips.
She was a graduate of Sydney Academy, an adherent of the United Baptist Church, a member of the Church Guild, Old Sydney Society, and C.B. Heart Beats. She retired from Crowell’s Dept. Store.
Erna is survived by twin son, Donald (Bonnie), Mira Gut, daughter-in-law, Brenda Burns, South Bar, two granddaughters, Laura (Terry), Vancouver Island and Sheri (Ellsworth), Westmount, grandson, Alan (Dawn), South Bar and two great-grandchildren Mitchel and Jesse Mailman, Westmount.
She was predeceased by her husband Daniel (1977), twin son David (1983), brother Bruce.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 7-9 p.m. with funeral service in the chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Willis Henderson officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
