Alice Riley
97, Sydney
Alice Riley, 97, of the Carefield Manor, formerly of Kings Road, passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Bridgeport, Alice was a daughter of the late Neil and Christie (MacAskill) MacLeod.
She was a member of the Westminister Bible Presbyterian Church, Sydney.
Alice is survived by her two sons, Wilfred A. (Hannah), Alberta, and Allister N. (Helen), Sydney; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence in 1973, a sister, Margaret, two brothers, Ronald and John and a son and daughter in infancy.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in the chapel, Monday at 3 p.m., with Pastor James Murchinson officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
Ethel Hilda Ritchie
83, Sydney
Ethel Hilda Ritchie, 83, of 10 Williams Street, Sydney, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Jack and Mary Brown.
Ethel was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish. She was the last member of her family.
Ethel is survived by four daughters, Marguerite White, Sydney, Barbara White, Kitchener, Ont., Bridgette Winchester, Digby, N.S., and Myrtle Brown, Ontario, four sons, Wilfred Hart, Eddie Hart, Angus Hart, all of Sydney, and John Hart, Ontario, 21 grandchildren, two great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Ikel Hart, John Whitty and Jim Ritchie, and two brothers, Angus and Kenny.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Thursday 2 p.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating.
Lillian Beatrice MacIntosh
87, Marion Bridge
Lillian Beatrice MacIntosh, 87, of 2375 Hillside Rd., Marion Bridge, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Dan J. and Mary (Haggarty) Gallivan.
She was a member of Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge. Lillian was a tireless worker at home, at church, in the community and the family business. She was a former member of the Committee of Stewards, past president and life member of Bethel United Church Women, Marion Bridge.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry D. MacIntosh; stepmother, Annie (Boyd) Gallivan; sister, Madge (Gallivan) Boudreau and stepsister, Ethel Gallivan.
She is survived by five sons, Murray “Mackie” (Ada), Sydney, Sylvester, Hillside Road, Marion Bridge, Myles (Betty), Dutch Brook, Insp. John Henry (Betty), Vancouver, B.C., William (Cathy), Hillside Road, Marion Bridge; three daughters, Norma (Mrs. Doug Woodill), Marion Bridge, Henrietta (Rev. Ralph Johnston), Marion Bridge, Heather (Mrs. George Townsend); 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one sister, Mary (Gallivan) Andrea, Eugene, Ore.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney, today (Tuesday), 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel United Church, Hillside Road, Marion Bridge with Rev. Lewis Crewe officiating.
Burial in the family plot, Oakfield Cemetery, Hillside, Mira.
Memorials may be made to Bethel United Church or Salvation Army Home for Seniors, 47 Byng Ave., Sydney.
Katie (Kaye) Belle MacKay
77, Sydney
Katie (Kaye) Belle MacKay, 77, of 312 Esplanade, Sydney, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Barren Hill, Richmond County, she was a daughter of the late George K. and Johnena (MacLeod) MacKay.
Kaye was an employee of the Marine Hospital, Point Edward Hospital, and retired from the VG Hospital, Halifax.
She is survived by her brother, Donald K., Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s; sister-in-law, Frances, Grand River; and two nephews, Ross, Bedford and Stewart, Grand River.
Kaye was predeceased by her sister, Florence in 1943 and brother, George W. in 1983.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held, under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m. in the Grand River Presbyterian Church, Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Grand River Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
Mary Lorraine MacNeil
60, New Waterford
Mary Lorraine MacNeil, 60, of 213 Convent St., New Waterford, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in New Waterford.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John Angus and Mary Ann (MacKinnon) MacNeil.
She was a member of Saint Agnes Church and the CWL. She was a retired teacher having taught in various schools in New Waterford. Lorraine was a member of the New Waterford Cancer Society, had been a Brownie leader and was active in various community activities.
She is survived by her brother, Ray (Judy), Ottawa; one niece, Shauna (Rob Spearman), Ottawa; and one nephew, Steven (Louise) MacNeil, Ottawa.
Visitation for the late Lorraine MacNeil will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Wednesday, March 1, at 10 a.m. in Saint Agnes Church with Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

John Ambrose “Husky” Campbell, 81, of 15 Douglas St., Sydney, and a life-long resident of the North End, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
He was survived by his sister Mrs. Margaret MacDonald.
