Sr. Mary Sullivan
66, Antigonish
Sr. Mary, formerly Maria Magdalen, 66, a Sister of St. Martha of Bethany, Antigonish, died on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Bethany in the 46th year of her religious life.
Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary (Mahoney) Sullivan of New Glasgow, N.S.
Sister Mary entered the congregation in August 1951. Beginning in 1953, sister ministered in a variety of fields. She initially served two years in the Bethany office; then three years in medical records at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, and in the purchasing departments of several hospitals: St. Peter’s, Melville, Sask., New Waterford Consolidated, New Waterford, and St. Martha’s, Antigonish, N.S.
From 1968-72, she was the bursar and administrator of Bethany. In 1973, Sr. Mary obtained her RN after studies at St. Rita Hospital School of Nursing. She nursed for six years at St. John’s Hospital, Lowell, and part-time for one year, at Santa Maria Hospital in Boston, U.S.A.
In 1983, Sr. Mary returned to clerical ministry at St. John’s Hospital. From 1991-1996, she served at Bethany as pension co-ordinator for the congregation.
Sr. Mary was community leader in three communities for a total of five years.
Sr. Mary is survived by two brothers, Lawrence and Earl, both of Cambridge, Mass.
She was predeceased by a brother, John A.
The remains are resting at Bethany, where a bible vigil will be held today (Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m.
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Service Ltd., Antigonish.
Frederick Cook Williams
91, Truro
Fredrick Cook Williams, 91, Mount Pleasant Blvd., Truro, and formerly of Richard Street, Sydney Mines, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Fredrick and Eva (Hiscox) Williams.
He was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. He was employed as a wood worker for many years at Laytons’ Lumber Ltd., and retired in 1983.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jean MacLeod; daughters, Eva and husband John Lantz, Illinois, Ann and husband Bernard MacDonald, Truro; grandchildren, Jason and wife Philippa MacDonald, Auckland, New Zealand, Cari MacDonald, Truro; sisters, Elizabeth Williams, Dorothy McGraw, both of Sydney Mines, Ruth Savage, Dundas, Ont.; brother, Charles, Sydney Mines and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Edith Hennigar, Marion Bruneau, brothers, John (Twid) and Albert.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Brenda Drake officiating.
A reception will follow in the church hall after the service.

Rita Rosina Dingwall
70, South Bar
Rita Rosina Dingwall, 70, formerly of South Bar, died Jan. 1, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Horne) Bellefountaine. She was a former employee of Smith’s Pastry Shoppe, Sydney, and a member of St. Albans Church. Her favorite pastime was listening to the music of Dinky Cameron. She was an inspiration to all she came in contact with.
Survived by daughter Deborah (Alex), Lethbridge, Alta.; two sons Robert (Joan), South Bar, and Michael (Donna), Sydney; sister Ellen Humphrey, Vermont; two brothers Mike, P.E.I., and Ken, Calgary, Alta.; three step-sisters, Dorothy, Margaret and Mary, all in Nova Scotia, and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband Gordon Wm. Dingwall.
Visitation will be in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral on Wednesday 2 p.m. at St. Alban’s Church, Sydney, with Rev. Doug Chard officiating. Cremation to follow with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, South Bar.

Neil Norbert Fraser
68, New Waterford
Neil Fraser, 68, of 3156 Atlantic Ave., New Waterford, N.S., passed away peacefully on Dec. 30, 1999, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Murdock and Threasa Fraser. Neil was a retired miner who worked for Cape Breton Development for 42 years. He was a member of St. Agnes Parish.
Neil is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Catherine (Currie), formerly of Dominion; one daughter Rose Mary; three sons, Thomas, Kevin (Carol Anne) and Sheldon, all of New Waterford; three sisters Sadie Angione, New Waterford, Marie (Palmer) Griffiths, Howie Center, and Bonita Marcella, Toronto, Ont.; two brothers Dave and Archie (Catherine) of New Waterford; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his daughter Margaret Threasa, his parents and sisters Rosie and Christina; brothers Phonse, John A., Danny, George and Murdock. Also by five brothers and sisters in early childhood Hattie B., Christina, Emma Ruth, Florence and Emma Marie.
Visitation will take place at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, today 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass to be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, New Waterford, with Fr. Robert Neville officiating. Cremation to follow.
Lillian Irene Frost
75, Sydney Forks
Lillian Irene (Stevens) Frost, 75, Spanish River Court, Sydney Forks, passed away suddenly Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at home.
Born in Sydney, She was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Naomi (Pitcher) Stevens. She was a member of Sydney River United Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Beverley Sibley and fiance Clarence Foley, Sydney River; two sons Ralph (Diane) and Robert (Donna), all of Calgary; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Marion (Mrs. John Sheppard), Sydney, Olive (Mrs. George Hulford), Sydney River, and Marie (Mrs. Donald Morrison), Sydney River; two brothers Harold, Halifax, and John (Olga), Sydney.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Frost was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; two brothers George and Donald; three sisters Eva MacPhail, Muriel and Evelyn.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Tuesday 1-3 p.m. with funeral service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Alan McIntosh. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Sarah Ann Hines
83, Glace Bay
Sarah Ann Hines died in the Victoria Haven Nursing Home, 3rd St., Glace Bay, on Jan. 2, 2000. She was a long-time resident of Brookside St. and later on Valleyview Complex and also lived with her daughter for a period of ten years before residing in the nursing home.
She was born in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Connelly) MacNeil. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish and was a member of the Cape Breton Deaf Association.
She is survived by her husband Joseph; daughter Dena (Mrs. Jack Crocker), Glace Bay; seven grandchildren Dean, Chris, Paul, Nancy, Kerri-Lou, Wendy and Glen; two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Rogers, Glace Bay, and Mrs. Martha MacLean, Mira; three brothers Dan (Bernice), Dominion and Joseph (Blanche), Gerald (Delores), both of Glace Bay.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay and will be announced later.
