Mary Florence LeBlanc
86, Sydney
Mary LeBlanc, 86, of Sydney, passed away on January 1, 2000, at home.
Born at Poirier Ville, Richmond Co., she was the daughter of the late Noel and Margaret (Poirier) Burke. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney.
She is survived by three daughters, Helen (Mrs. Sherman Bradley), Dartmouth, Marilyn (Mrs. Allan McMullin), Sydney, and Anne (Mrs. Lorway Watson), Sydney; two sons Earl (Mary) and Cyril (Mary), both of Sydney; sister Clara MacNamara, St. Peters, and a brother Noel Burke, D’escousse; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Elzier and one grandchild.
The late Mrs. LeBlanc will have visitation from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Monday, Jan. 3) at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church with Father A. O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Gloria MacEachern
56, New Waterford
Gloria (MacLean) MacEachern, 85, of 600 George St., New Waterford, died Jan. 1, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Gardiner Mines, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret (Strang) MacLean. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford.
She is survived by two daughters Trudy (Melvin) Penny, New Waterford, and Jean (Lee) Levitt, Alberta; four sons Kevin (Maria), Lingan, James, Boisdale, Brian (Mary), Sydney and Lawrence (Sheila), New Waterford; brother John of Toronto, Ont. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, including special grandson Buddy, and his children Christopher and Kyle with whom she resided.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Arnold (Ham); a son Bernard; five sisters Mary, Winnifred, Kathleen, Carrie and Vangeline; two brothers Wilfred and Charlie.
Visitation will be in the McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, on Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass 10 a.m. on Wednesday from the Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald McGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
John Pat MacDonald
77, Sydney Mines
John Pat MacDonald, 77, of 9 Convent Street, Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully Dec. 31, 1999, at Harbor View Hospital.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late J.W. and Elizabeth MacDonald. He was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines. Prior to retirement, he worked at the Freight shed and then at CN Marine. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was a life member of Breton Branch 8, Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines. He was also involved in Santa Maria Council 2024 KOC, Sydney Mines in various capacities and was a 4th Degree Knight in the William B. MacLeod Assembly.
Surviving are his wife Mary Frances (MacNeil), his daughter Betty (Ron) Arsenault and his son David (Celeste) MacDonald and five grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Also surviving are his sisters Mary B. MacDonald and Theresa (Dave) Cadegan MacLellan.
He was predeceased by his sisters Isabelle MacLean and Kathleen MacNeil.
Visitation today (Monday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Mary MacLellan
87, Glace Bay
Mary MacLellan, 87, of Seaview Manor and formerly of Tulip Street, Bridgeport, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Christina (MacLeod) Stewart. Mary was a member of Chalmer’s United Church.
Mary is survived by daughters Margaret (Murdock) MacKay, Glace Bay, Catherine (Lawrence) Summerell, Glace Bay, Bella (Gordon) Fanson, London, Ont., Lexie (Kevin) Ulrich, London, Ont.; son Stewart (Lorraine), Glace Bay; sister Effie MacIsaac, Glace Bay; brothers Allan (Florence) Stewart, Glace Bay, Hugh (Helen) Stewart, Glace Bay; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A special niece Jean-Gracie and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband Albert MacLellan and a son Robert infancy; sisters, Margaret, Mamie and Bella.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in The Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Interment will be in Ocean Avenue Cemetery,

Catherine Roslyn MacRae
56, Baddeck
Catherine Roslyn MacRae, 56, Baddeck, died December 31, 1999, at home. Born in Gillis Point, Victoria Co., she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Helen (MacKenzie) MacLean. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Baddeck Forks. She was employed as a hair dresser and groundskeeper with the Silver Dart Motel, Baddeck. She was well known for her community work. She acted as a mother for her brothers and sisters when her mother died at an early age. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are son, Ralph MacRae, Baddeck; brother, Gordon MacLean (Hazel), Port Hawkesbury; sisters Jacinta MacKinnon, Charleen MacNeil, Baddeck, Mary MacLean (Dwane Hall), Lake Echo, Grace MacLean, Calgary.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Hector and Kenzie. No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Christena (Tena) Marley
Lower Sackville
Christena Isabelle (Tena) Marley, of Lower Sackville, a long-time resident of Sydney, passed away suddenly at Victoria General Hospital Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, after a brief illness.
Born in Big Pond, C.B., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ann (MacIntyre) MacNeil. She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney, and for the past three years St. John Veanny of Lower Sackville.
Tena is survived by her sons Russell (Tellie), Sydney, Clarence (Estelle), Ottawa; four daughters Theresa, Sydney, Barbara (Pat) Duffy, Redford, Michigan, Alice (Bill) Thereault, Digby, and Geraldine (Donnie) Rose, Lower Sackville, with whom she resided for the past three years; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grand children. She is also survived by a sister Margaret Gillis, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years Russell; also by two children at birth; four brothers, Steve Peter, John and Neil; two sisters Mary MacKinnon and Theresa MacAskill.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church Wednesday 11 a.m. with Rev. Everett McDow officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
