Harry Walter Hillier
47, New Waterford
It is with great sadless that we announce the death of Harry Walter Hillier, 47, of 3504 Fenton Ave., New Waterford, N.S., on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Anna (Van Hove) Hillier and the late Walter Hillier. He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church in New Waterford, where he served as warden and was active in all church affairs.
He attended Central School and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University. He taught in Port aux Basques, Nfld., East Bay, Reserve, Malcolm Munroe Jr. High and Glace Bay. He was currently employed by the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board as a teacher at Breton Education Centre.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Margie (MacIntyre) Hillier; his precious children, Lee-Anne, a student at UCCB, Gillian, a Grade 10 student at BEC, and Matthew, a Grade 3 student at St. Agnes Elementary; his sister, Lillian (Colin) Donovan, Lingan, and also by three special nephews, Shawn, Ryan and Conal Donovan.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Christena (Tuddy) MacIntyre, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Hughie (Carol Ann) MacIntyre, Tillie (Bart) MacMillan, Tony MacIntyre, Mickey (Sharon) MacIntyre and Karen MacIntyre, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Smith Street, New Waterford, with funeral services Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at All Saints Anglican Church, MacGibbon Street, New Waterford. Interment in All Saints Anglican Church Cemetery.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Parish or Breton Education Centre Scholastic Fund.

Sarah Ann Hines
83, Glace Bay
Visitation for the late Sarah A. Hines, 93, of Glace Bay, N.S. who passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, will be held today (Tuesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
Funeral mass will be Wednesday 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Graham officiating. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glace Bay.

Gloria MacEachern
56, New Waterford
Gloria (MacLean) MacEachern, 85, of New Waterford, who passed away Jan. 1, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, is also survived by 18 grandchildren, Curtis MacEachern, Andrea, Jocelyn and Deidre MacEachern, Bernard, Kelly and Ian MacEachern, Dwayne, Gary Jr., Lorraine, Carrie and Mathew Dalton, Tommy and Pauline Hawco, Heather, Melissa, John (Mingy), and Bernard (Buddy) Penny, with whom she resided, along with his children Christopher and Kyle Penny.
Visitation will take place at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass 10 a.m. on Wednesday from Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald McGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Jean Catherine MacLeod
65, Grand River
Jean Catherine MacLeod, 65, of Grand River, Richmond County, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Framboise, Richmond County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Cora (MacKenzie) Bartholomew.
She is survived by her husband, A.J.; one son, Richard, both of Grand River; one daughter, Nancy (Mrs. Bruce Wagner); granddaughters, Kristina, Jillian and Jeanna, all of Lower Sackville; brothers, Norman (Shirley) and Kenneth (Jean), both of Grand River. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Bartholomew, Rose MacAulay and Earlene Miller.
Visitation will take place today (Tuesday) Jan. 4, from 2-9 p.m. at the Grand River United Church where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. A. Ware officiating. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peters.

Isabel McIsaac
85, New Waterford
Isabel McIsaac, 85, of 30 Gannon St., Glace Bay, formerly of 2nd Street, New Waterford, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Christina (Currie) Edwards.
She was a long-time member of Saint Agnes Parish. Isabel was an avid bingo and card player. A small woman in size, she had a heart bigger than her weight in gold. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Kearney, Halifax, Kay (John) May, Glace Bay, with whom she resided, Sheila (Steve) Halliday, Dartmouth; five sons, John (Frauke), Ontario, Ray (Patsy), New Waterford, Donnie, Alberta, Dougie, Florida, Ronnie (Charlotte), Timberlea; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Angus Campbell Mclsaac, a special foster son (nephew) Greg McNeil, three sisters, Nora Edwards, Katie Aitkens and Sarah McNeil.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford Tuesday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Thursday 2 p.m. from Saint Agnes Church, Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Victor James Mercer
89, Bedford
Victor James Mercer, 89, of Bedford, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Stuart and Francis “Fanny” (Coombs) Mercer.
He worked for 49 years at Sydney Steel, retiring in 1975. His involvement and interest in music and sports was central in his life. His enjoyment and love of people endeared him to all his friends and acquaintances, not only in his home community of Sydney River, but also in Bedford and throughout his travels.
He is survived by daughters, Gail (Ross) Carson, Bedford, Wilma (Ross) Wilson, Ottawa; sons, Bobby (Arlene) Mercer, Pennsylvania, and Wendell (Bonnie) Ross, Truro; sisters, Elsie Royal, Ottawa, Bertha Waye, Cambridge, Ont., Isobel Coté, Guelph and Doris Gardiner, Sydney; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Bess (Moffatt) Mercer; second wife, Victoria (Campbell) (Ross) Mercer, brothers, Gordon, Roy, Ron and Cecil.
Memorial service will be held Thursday 2 p.m. in T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, 1216 Bedford Highway, Bedford, with the Rev. Arthur Nash officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Cape Breton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
