Theodore Thomas Jakubick
61, New Waterford
Theodore Thomas Jakubiak, 61, of New Waterford, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Scotchtown, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ludmila Jakubiak.
He was a member of Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford and a former member of St. Michael’s Church, Scotchtown. He was employed as a steelworker at the Sydney Steel Plant.
He is survived by one sister, Gloria, Dartmouth; one brother, Thomas, Ontario; two nephews, Thomas and Bradley.
He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine and one sister, Lillian.
His remains will rest at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Sarah Dora Jennex
87, New Waterford
Sarah Dora Jennex, 87, Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, formerly of New Victoria died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000 in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Sarah (Roach) Leudy. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Betty Aucoin, New Waterford, Ruth Jennex, Mrs. Georgina (Nelson) Greene, both of Toronto, Ms. Carol Ives, Brampton and Alice Jennex, Sydney; three sons, Richard (Patsy), Gerald (Gertrude), Hadley (Joanne), all of New Waterford; brother, Joe Leudy, New Waterford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hadley George Jennex, son, Clarence, two brothers, John and Anthony, two sisters, Emma Blanchard and Lizie Boudreau.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday 10 am, St Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
Jacqueline V.R. Kennedy
33, Ottawa/Port Morien
Jacqualine Kennedy, daughter of Mrs. Phyllis Peach, Port Morien and the late Ray Kennedy, Louisbourg, passed away very suddenly at her home in Ottawa on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000.
Jackie is survived by her mother, Phyllis, long time companion and best friend, Ed Achenkampf; step-da Millage Peach; sisters, Tracey Byrne, Port Morien, Norma D. Peach, Whitehorse, Yukon and Terri Peach, Dominion. Special niece Samantha Byrne; nephews Steven and Harold Peach and Jarrett Byrne. Her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Verena Drake, North Sydney, many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as step-grandparents Joe and Joyce Peach, Port Morien.
Jackie was predeceased by her father, Ray, infant brother, Steven, maternal grandfather, Levi Drake, North Sydney, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kennedy, Louisbourg.
Jackie will be sadly missed for the laughter she always brought to people.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Ottawa with interment of ashes to be held at a later date in St. Bartholomew’s Cemetery, Louisbourg.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Neil Lexnor MacDonald
60, Sydney
Neil Lexnor MacDonald, 60, of Intercolonial Street, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Frank and Christine (Patterson) MacDonald.
Neil was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was a long time member of the UMWA Local 2183 and was retired from the Cape Breton Development Corp.
Neil is survived by his wife, Mary (MacAulay) MacDonald; sons, Parker (Jody) and Kelly (Mary); daughters, Jean (Mrs. Robert Clements), Cora and Kimberley (Mrs. Stephen Currie), all of Sydney; one brother, Winston MacDonald, Sydney and two grandchildren, Christene and Daniel.
He was predeceased by two sons, Neil Daniel at birth and Neil Daniel and two brothers, Frank and Cyril.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Saturday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment will be in Eastmount Cemetery.
Clara MacKinnon
91, Glace Bay
Clara MacKinnon, 91, a resident of Charlotte’s Guest Home and formerly of Manse Street, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, following a brief illness.
Born March 10, 1908 in Dominion, she was a daughter of the late Murdock and Ellen (MacLeod) MacLeod. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a long time member of St. Anthony’s Parish, Glace Bay. In her earlier years she was a very active member of St. Ann’s Sodality and the CWL.
She is survived by sons, Hector (Dorothy), Sutton, Ont., Rev. Douglas MacKinnon, SFM, Dan (Jackie), Carleton Place, Ont., Jim (Norma), Michael (Donna), both of Glace Bay; daughters, Mary Lou Bratko (Mike), Winnipeg, Patricia Adams (George), Gooderham, Ont., Florence Stoliar (Bill), New Minas, N.S., Kay MacInnis (Sandy), Sydney; daughters-in-law, Clara MacKinnon, Rose Blanche, Nfld., Liz MacKinnon, Richmond Hill, Ont. and foster daughter, Sandra Gillis. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dougald MacKinnon, sons, Alex, Brian and Greg and three children in infancy, brothers, Dan and Wilbert and sister, Florence Boutilier.
Visitation will be held at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Scarborough Foreign Mission Society, St. Anthony Parish Cemetery Fund or to a charity of choice.
Angus John (AJ) MacNeil
Christmas Island
Angus John (A.J.) MacNeil, 91, of Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, formerly of Christmas Island, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the residence.
Born at Christmas Island, he was the son of the late Joseph and Flora (MacNeil) MacNeil, Christmas Island.
He was a member of St. Barra’s Parish, Christmas Island. He was a carpenter by trade. Mr. MacNeil lived all his life in Christmas Island until 1996 when he became a resident of Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck. He was the last surviving member of the “EOS AN GOBHA” family (Blacksmith Family). In his earlier years A.J. was also an underwater diver, a blacksmith, as well as a house painter in Boston.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Marie Margaret (Ken) Adams, Dewey, Ariz., Mary Rose MacNeil, Toronto, Mrs. Florence Berthelotte, Halifax and Catherine Anne Delores (Roderick) Murphy, Iona; three sons, John L. (Therese), Mississauga, Ont., John B. (Patricia), Whitefish, Ont. and Joseph, Christmas Island. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Terry and David, Terri Lee, Brian and Shannon, Jay and Andre, Melinda and Lisa, Ryan, Kimberly and Colleen and two great-grandchildren, Keltie and Kaylee. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bessie (Hector) MacNeil, West Roxbury, Mass. as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, the former Catherine Rose Delorey of Tracadie, N.S. in 1992, nine sisters, Maria Jane and Mary, both in infancy, Mary Catherine MacDonell, Marie MacDougall, Margaret Sarah George, Mary Anne MacNeil, Martina MacNeil, Annie May and Catherine Ann MacKenzie, six brothers, Allen, John, Hector, Jack, Ambrose and Angus John.
The late Mr. MacNeil will have visitation after 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Barra’s Church, Christmas Island. Funeral mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in St. Barra’s Church with the Rev. J.A. MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Christmas Island.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Alderwood Rest Home Bus Fund.
