Regina McMullin
72, Reserve Mines
Regina McMullin 72, of Sydney Road, Reserve Mines, passed away peacefully at home, Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Ann (Wadden) Mountain.
Predeceased by her husband, Thomas (Tucker) McMullin, Regina was an active member of St. Joseph’s Parish and CWL.
She was the treasurer of the Reserve Twilight Club, past member of the ladies auxiliary Branch No. 2 Royal Canadian Legion, Reserve and an avid 45s card player.
She is survived by daughters, Linda (Sheldon) McNeil, Glace Bay, Mary (Bobby) MacKillop, Reserve, Betty (Fred) Reeves, Hamilton, Ont., Bernadette (Andrew) Dolhai, Dominion; sons, Tom (Anita), New Waterford, Danny (Darlene), Calgary, Henry (Paula), Perth, Ont., Johnny (Karen), Reserve; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Dollie Timm, Dominion, Antoinette Scott, Saint John, N.B., Cleo Fradkin, White Plains, N.Y., Faustina Woodford, Margaree, Carol Ann Chiasson, Glace Bay.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by sisters, Mary Cloake, Ave Allen, Bernadette Mountain and brother, Borromeo and three infant grandchildren.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Saturday) 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Rev. Ray Huntley officiating.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Regina’s memory may be made to the parish cemetery fund or to a charity of choice.
Martin Francis Anderson
62, Barra Glen, Vict. Co
Martin Francis Anderson, 62, of Barra Glen, Vict. Co., died January 8, 2000, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital. Born in Barra Glen, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Connelly) Anderson. He was a member of St. Columba Parish, Iona.
Surviving are brother, John, Maine; sister, Ann, Boston; nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Agnes Nash.
Funeral 11 a.m. Monday (today) in St. Columba Parish, Iona with Rev. Fred Morley officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Columba building fund or Canadian Diabetes Association.

Josephine Barron
55, Ingonish Beach
Mrs. Josephine Barron, 55, of Ingonish Beach, Vict. Co., died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, after a lengthy illness.
Born at Ingonish Beach, she was the daughter of Frances (Doucette) Powers and the late Frank Powers. She was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, Ingonish.
She is survived by her husband William, four sisters Peggy (Mrs. Francis Barron), Heather (Mrs. Mark MacDougall), both of Ingonish, Mary Brewer, Stellarton, Darlene (Mrs. James Jordan), New Glasgow; five brothers Wayne and Donnie, both of Ingonish, Joseph, James and Monty, all of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her sister Jean Morrison; her brother Stewart and one brother in infancy.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish, today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s Church with Rev. John Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the North of Smoky Palliative Care Society or to St. Peter’s Memorial Fund.
Charles Ralph (Dut) Eagles
85, Glace Bay
Charles Ralph “Dut” Eagles, of 50 Connaught Ave., and formerly of Valley View Complex, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Facility.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (MacIsaac) Eagles. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of St. John’s Parish and a life time member of the Hub Club. Mr. Eagles worked many years with Dosco and then with the Street Department of the town of Glace Bay until his retirement.
He is survived by sons Tony (Linda), Wayne (Bernice), Joey (Roseanne), all of Glace Bay, Greg (Carol), Tommy and Kevin (Wendy), all of Ontario and one daughter Darlene (Greg) Crowdis of Glace Bay; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Bina and nine sons.
Mr. Eagles is resting at Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main Street, Glace Bay this evening (Monday) 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Church with Rev. Paul McGillivray officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Dut’s memory may be made to the Cancer Society, the Diabetes Association or to a charity of choice.
Ewan Ernest MacDonald
81, Sydney
Ewan Ernest MacDonald, 81, of Spruce Haven Drive, Sydney, formerly of Port Morien, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000.
Born in Port Morien, N.S., Ewan was a son of the late Archie E. and Lorena (Clements) MacDonald. He was a veteran of the Second World War 1939-1945. He served and was wounded overseas. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 55 Port Morien. Ewan was an avid skater, swimmer and dancer. He was involved in hockey, softball and had numerous friends involved in those activities.
Ewan is survived by one son, Donald, Tarzana, California; one daughter, Lorena Boyle, Salem, Oregon; also a number of grandchildren, nephews and nieces. At the time of his death Ewan was residing with his nephew Archie Pushie at Spruce Haven Drive.
He was predeceased by his son Kent MacDonald, California and sister Gladys Pushie, British Columbia.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in St. John United Church, Port Morien, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. J. Chisholm officiating. Interment will be in Black Brook Cemetery, Port Morien.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
James Angus MacNeil
68, Sugarloaf, Vict. CO
Mr. James Angus MacNeil, age 68, Sugarloaf, Vict. Co., died peacefully at home on Jan. 7, 2000, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born at Bay St. Lawrence, he was the son of the late John J. and Janie (MacNeil) MacNeil. He was a devote member of St. Margaret’s Church, St. Margaret Village. During his lifetime, Jim was employed as a school bus driver, lobster fisherman, manager and labourer at Central Co-Op, Co-Op Fisheries, and the Bay St. Lawrence Credit Union.
He will be sadly missed and his memory cherished by wife Jean; sons Colin (Diana), Owen Sound, Mark, Sault St. Marie and Sugarloaf; new grandson Alexander James; one sister Mary and brothers Keith, John, Bernie, Francis, Teddy and Wendell.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Jim’s simplicity of life and strength of spirit will continue to be an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact.
Visitation will be held in St. Margaret’s Church, St. Margaret’s Village, today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial, under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, will be in the parish cemetery.
