Michael T. Williams
85, Bras d'Or
Michael T. Williams of 396 Alder Point Road, Bras d’Or, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late William C. and Mary Janet (O’Connell) Williams. He retired in 1979 as a stevedore with CN. He was a member of St. Ann’s Parish, Alder Point, N.S.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Violet Buffet; three daughters Sylvia (Francis) Jessome and Debbie (Bobby) Woods of Bras d’Or and Carol (Louis) Stubbert of Florence; three sons Joey (Louise) Williams, Toronto, Clifton (Nora) Williams and Brian (Jocilyn) Williams, Bras d’Or; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; son Kevin; two sisters Margaret and Mary and two brothers William and Leo.
Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral services will be held at St. Ann’s Church, Alder Point, Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bras d’Or.

Stuart Williams
72, Neil's Harbour
Mr. Stuart Williams, age 72, of Neil’s Harbour, Vict. Co., died January, 15, 2000, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born at Neil’s Harbour, he was the son of the late Hubert and Alice (Strickland) Williams. He was a member of St. Andrews Anglican Church and a retired fisherman.
He is survived by three sisters Dorothy Clarke, Bras d’Or, Phyllis Williams, Toronto, and Ellen Hatcher, Highland Manor, Neil’s Harbour; and brothers Thomas and Owen of Neil’s Harbour.
He was predeceased by three sisters Millie, Marion and Shirley and brothers Albert and John.
Visitation will be in All Souls Chapel, Neil’s Harbour, today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in St. Andrews Anglican Church, with Rev. Chris McCann officiating. Burial, under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, will be in St. Andrews Cemetery.
Lucy Maude Bonner
92, North Sydney
Lucy Maude Bonner, 92, of Lorne St., North Sydney, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Ramea, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late William and Suzanna (Warren) Kendall. She was a member of St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are five daughters, Thelma (Mrs. Gerald Bobbitt), Fredericton, N.B., Frances Thomson, Belleville, Ont., Helen Nicholson, Toronto, Ont., Joan (Mrs. Al Putnam), Truro, N.S., and Marion Delaney, North Sydney; two sons, Leonard (Violet), Sydney Mines and Cecil (Helen), Sydney Mines; 46 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard, two sons, Alphonse (Toddy) and Harrison, one daughter, Edna Wall, four great-grandchildren, one grandchild, four brothers, Austin, Emmanuel, Jack and William and four sisters, Frances, Rita, Edna and Alice.
Visitation will be held Tuesday Jan. 18, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Bernice Rhoda Boone
79, Westmount
Bernice Rhoda Boone, 79, of Westmount Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Bernice was born in North Sydney, a daughter of the late William and Charlotte (Cave) Rolls. Bernice was a member of Westmount United Church, officer and longtime member of Order of Eastern Star and Past matron of Munroe Chapter No. 26, North Sydney.
Bernice is survived by her husband Allan; daughter Janet Arlene (Peter) Tuff, Truro; three grandchildren Philip, Andrea and Martha; two sisters Hilda Williams, Fort McMurray and Zelma Hamilton, Vancouver, B.C. a brother Elmer, Vancouver, B.C.
She was predeceased by a brother Judson.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service at Westmount United Church Tuesday 2 p.m. with Rev. Bernice Spracklin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Order of Eastern Star service will be held Monday 7 p.m. at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the Healing Garden at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Laura Gallant
73, Reserve Mines
Laura Gallant, 73, of 527 Atlantic Dr., Reserve Mines, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Angelo Shibinette and Victoria Vandenmere.
Laura was a valued member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines. She had been employed with Cara Operations at the Sydney Airport for over 30 years.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Shibinette, Glace Bay and Barbara Shibinette (Bob Ling), Reserve; nieces, Lorna (Keith) MacPherson, Reserve, Sherri (Brian) MacCormack, Glace Bay, Lori (Michael) Brown, New Hampshire, U.S.A.; nephews, Butch (Sandra) Shibinette, Glace Bay, Stephen (Michelle) Shibinette, Glace Bay, Derrick (Dawn), Dominion; four sisters, Jean Caume, Louise (Maurice) Thomas, both of Reserve, Marie (Dennis) Kelly, Diane (David) Peterson, both of Glace Bay; and also other nieces and nephews; by grandnieces and grandnephews, Erin, Nicole, Jenna, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Adam, Aaron, Robyn, Jeffrey, Tyler.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thoryl in 1985, three brothers, Art, Joe and Robert and one sister, Vicky.
No visitation by Laura’s request. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Laura’s memory made be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery Fund.
Lil Johnstone
101, Glace Bay
Lil Johnstone, 101, of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, whose death occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, will have a memorial service Thursday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Patten Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
