Mary Capstick
66, Bras d'Or
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary Margaret (Fraser) Capstick, 66, of Church Road, Bras d’Or, Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000.
Born Sept. 10, 1933 in Alder Point, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Rachel Ann (Fraser) Fraser.
She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Francis Capstick, Sept. 30, 1973.
Mary lived in Calgary 20 years, having retired in Cape Breton four years ago. At 50 she was the eldest social work student of her school when she attended Mount Royal College, Calgary, Alta. She also had a deep love for traditional Scottish music.
She is very loved and will be deeply missed by her five sons and two daughters, Thomas (Wendy), Brendon (Mary), Joseph (Yvette), William (Audrey), and Maurice (Lisa), Colleen (Donald Burns), Rachelle (Mrs. Lloyd Brown), her 11 grandchildren, Colin, Angela, Brendon Jr, Billy, Jordan, Maurice, Hillary, Alyssa, Randy, Christine, Hannah, and great-grandson, Logan. She is also survived by her 3 brothers and 1 sister, John W. Fraser, John A. Fraser, Michael S. Fraser, and Sally (Mrs. Peter Mansfield).
Other than her late husband, she was predeceased by her 3 brothers and 3 sisters, Russell Fraser, Ronald G. Fraser, Donald M. Fraser, Theresa A. (Fraser) MacDonald, Betty Ann (Mrs. Paul Bastarache), and Ann E. MacDonald.
A devoted mother, and grandmother, Mary’s strength and guidance will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
At Mary’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
Albert Maurice Norton
91, Sydney
On January 28th, 2000, Albert Maurice Norton, born in Galesburgh, Illinois, Jan. 30, 1908, passed on peacefully at MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney, N.S., where he was looked after by a caring staff.
He is survived by his wife Karen Nielsen Norton; two sons, Albert Lee Norton and Richard Pary Norton and one daughter, Suzanne Marie Elder.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thomas G. Whent officiating.
Joseph William Kennedy
64, Moncton/Little Lorraine
Joseph William Kennedy, 64, formerly of Little Lorraine, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the George Demont Hospital, Moncton.
He was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Burke) Kennedy.
He is survived by his three stepchildren, Anne Marie (Mrs. Percy Sheppard), Porters Lake, Johine (Marlene), Lloydminster, Sask., Christina (Roland Cormier), Moncton; three sisters, Florence (Mrs. Robert Fiander) and Agnes, both of Louisbourg, Lillian, Braemore Home, Sydney; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving companion, Dorothy MacDonald, Moncton, N.B.
Visitation will take place today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at W.A. Chant Funeral Home, Main Street, Louisbourg. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from Stella Maris Church, Main Street, Louisbourg with the Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Main-a-Dieu, under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
John Archibald (Buck) MacDonald
87, Sydney
Johnnie (Buck) MacDonald, 87, of 388 Columbia St., Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000.
He is survived by a son, John R. (Jackie Oram), Ottawa.
Burial is under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Ruth Harriet (Peach) MacLeod
82, Port Morien
Ruth Harriet (Peach) MacLeod, 82, of Peach Street, Port Morien, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Port Morien, she was a daughter of the late Murray and Margaret (Boutilier) Peach.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church and was a kind and loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by daughter, Betty (Kenny) Rankin; sons, Donald (Judy) and Laird (Bucky), and their father, Donald Sr., all of Port Morien; sisters, Jean Peach and Edna (Angus) MacDonald, both of Port Morien and brother, Brenton (Muriel) Peach, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Sherri Lynn and Liam. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Betty in infancy and Marjorie and three brothers, Charlie, Leslie and Bill.
Visitation will be in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Sunday in St. Paul’s Anglican Church with Rev. Paul Findlay officiating, (time of funeral will be announced). Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Black Brook.

Mabel MacNeil
83, Sydney
Mabel MacNeil (Murphy), 83, of the Cove Guest Home, formerly of Newbury Street, Sydney, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Kehoe) Murphy. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Judy (Jerry) Budden, Sydney; grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Reynolds and Scott (Kathy), Ottawa; great-grandchildren, Michael and Kyle Reynolds; nephew, Kevin Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three brothers, Harold, Ronald and James, all of Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, D.J. (Sparky) MacNeil, brothers, William and Edward, sisters, Ella Penticost and Annie Jackson.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be at St. Andrew’s United Church, Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dale Irving and Sharon Irving officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Cove Guest Home or the Alzheimer’s Society.
Kenneth Marsden
72, Mira
Kenneth Marsden, 72, of 167 Brickyard Rd., Mira and formerly of Glace Bay and Newfoundland, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from St. Mary’s Church, Glace Bay, with Canon Rev. Arnold officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
