Mary Rachel Bethune (Savoy)
St. Peter's
Mary R. Bethune passed away suddenly at the Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000.
She is survived by one son, Redge Savoy, London, Ont.; two grandchildren, Cobi and Andrew; one sister, Gussie Grossett (Roger), Dartmouth, N.S.
Cremation has taken place. Committal service will take place at a later date in the Loch Lomond Pioneer Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.

Cheryl Darlene Colford
Sydney
Cheryl Darlene Colford, of East St., Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Cheryl was a daughter of the late Patrick and Eileen (Laite) Colford. Cheryl was a member of Trinity United Church. She was a Master Hairdresser and worked for several years with MT&T.
She is survived by her special nephew, Brent Keough; loving sister, Pat (Dr. Brian) Foley, Sydney and niece and nephew, Blanaid and Neil Foley. Cheryl is also survived by close relatives, Allan Laite, Ohio, Pete MacQuarrie, Westmount and her dearest friend, Sheila MacIsaac, Sydney River, along with numerous aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 2-3 p.m. followed by a service in the chapel at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care or a charity of choice.

Allan Robert (Bobby) Donnelly
41, Sydney
Bobby Donnelly, a resident of Victoria Road, Sydney, passed away suddenly at the Valley Regional Hospital, Middleton, Monday, Jan. 24, 2000.
Born in Scarborough, Ont., on July 28, 1958, he was the son of Marlene (Donnelly) Leblanc, Digby and the late Allan Robert Donnelly.
Bobby is survived by his common-law wife, Marion McKay; three children, Micheal, Matthew and Kayla McKay. He is also survived by one sister, Brenda, Ontario; one brother, Brian, Ontario and his stepfather, Joseph (Desi) Leblanc, Digby.
He will be sadly missed by all his family members, friends and co-workers from Western Inventories. He also will be sadly missed by his favorite niece, Carmella Langer.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a funeral service being held in the chapel Monday, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.

Linda M. Hatcher
33, Halifax
Linda Mae Hatcher, 33, a resident of Halifax and formerly of High Street, North Sydney, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000 at the QEII Health Sciences Center VG Site in Halifax.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of Austin Hatcher, North Sydney and the late Annie Jane (Genter) Hatcher.
Linda worked as a computer programmer for the Nova Scotia Department of Health up until the time of her illness. She was a member of St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Besides her father, she is survived by one brother, Austin, Hammonds Plains; niece, Felicia Hatcher; special aunt, Eileen Inscoe, Brampton, Ont.; also by a number of uncles and aunts.
Besides her mother, Annie Jane, she was predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Friday, 11 a.m. from St. John The Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the QEII Health Sciences Centre VG Site, Floor 5A.

Alice Matthews
85, North Sydney
Alice Matthews, 85, a resident of the Northside Guest Home, North Sydney, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the guest home.
Born in Gaultois, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late William and Rose Anne (House) Matchem. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney and a member of the L.O.B.A. and L.T.B.A.
She is survived by one son, Garland Lilly, Sydney River; three daughters, Madelyn (Mrs. Banks MacLean), Leitches Creek, Gloria (Mrs. Raymond Rolfe), Sydney and Tina (Mrs. Walter Jesso), Greenwood, N.S.; one brother, Alex Matchem, Halifax, N.S.; six grandchildren, Tracy (Mrs. Vince MacGillivary), Sydney, Christopher Rolfe, Sydney, Brandy MacLean, Calgary, Jennifer MacLean, Leitches Creek and Amy and Stephen Jesso, Greenwood; three stepsons, Gordon Matthews, Ivan Matthews and Richard Matthews, all of North Sydney; one stepdaughter, Mary (Mrs. Eric Sheaves), North Sydney.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Alexander Lilly and her second husband, Ernest Matthews; five brothers, Ted, Art, Matthew, Jacob and James; four sisters, Lavina, Emma, Sarah Elizabeth and Lillian.
Visitation today (Thursday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Friday 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

Jacob Vickers
83, Southside Boularderie
Jacob Vickers, 83, of Southside Boularderie passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 26, 2000 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Jacob and Lillian (Marsh) Vickers. He was a member of St. Joachim’s Parish, Boularderie. He was self-employed most of his life in Silviculture and was an avid gardener and sports fisherman. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas as a Sargeant in the C.B. Highlanders.
He is survived by his daughters, Lillian (Jesse) Mederios, June (Jim) Stanley, both in Florida, Christene (Howard) Doyle, D’Escousse, Mary, Eileen (Ken) MacNeil, both of North Sydney, Judy (William) O’Toole, Millville, Kay (Ed) Morgan and Patsy (Ron) Lee, Sydney; sons, Jack, North Sydney and Joe (Theresa), Mississauga, Ont. and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brothers, George, Port Hawkesbury, and Joe, Antigonish; sisters, Sybil, North Sydney, June, Florida, and Eleanor, California.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Katie Ann (MacDonald); daughters, Eileen and Ann, and by his brother Sid.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, especially his granddaughter, Karen.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday), 7-9 p.m. and Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Joachim’s Church, Boularderie. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the N.S. Lung Association.
