Evelyn Theriault, 86 of 28 Ratio Drive, Alder Point, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Alder Point, she was the daughter of the late Pascal and Margaret (McGrath) LeBlanc. She was a member of St. Anne’s Parish, Alder Point.
She is survived by her sons Wilfred (Lyla), Scarborough, Philip (Bernadette), Alder Point, Freeman (Elizabeth), Sydney Mines; her daughters Helene (Mrs. Russell Devoe), Mildred (Mrs. Vincent Erickson), Alder Point and Margaret (Mrs. Edgar Cantwell), Bras d’Or and 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Pearl Carfatoes, Cape Cod, Frances Barrie, Barrie, Ont. and Millie Dooley, Halifax; her brothers Chester LeBlanc, Cleveland, and Clifton LeBlanc, Antigonish.
She was predeceased by her husband Wilbert, her sons Lawrence and Leonard; her grandchildren Wilbert Devoe and Cameron Cantwell, her brothers Bernard and Stricklen and her sister Marguerite Barrie.
Visitation to day (Thursday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Catherine Bernice Campbell
65, Sydney
Catherine Bernice Campbell, 65, of Bison Drive, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Catherine was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (MacRae) Keough.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and had worked for the City of Sydney Hospital and the Cape Breton School Board.
Catherine is survived by her husband, William Joseph (Willie); two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. Wayne MacIsaac), Edmonton and Rose Mary Campbell, Vancouver; two sons, Bernie, Sydney and Andy, Truro; four sisters, Tillie (John) Campbell, Sydney, Lorraine (Ernest) Brookman, East Bay, Rosie (Gordon) Duff, South Bar, and Millie (Neil) Hooper, Sydney; three brothers, Buddy, Maurice and Dave, all of Sydney, eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Evelyn Murphy, Rita Costello and Tootsie Clinton and a daughter, Cathy in infancy.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with the funeral mass held at Holy Redeemer, Saturday, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Doris Evelyn Gardiner
80, Sydney
Doris Evelyn Gardiner, 80, of Columbia Street, Sydney, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, Doris was a daughter of the late Stewart and Frances (Coombs) Mercer.
Doris is survived by her husband, Henry S. Gardiner; two sons, Jack (Betty), Sydney and Tyrone (Flora), Hornes Road; three sisters, Elsie Royale, Ottawa, Bertha Waye, Cambridge, Ont., and Isabelle (Porky) Coté, Guelph, Ont.; four grandchildren, Jamie, Michelle, Paulette and Jill and three great-grandchildren, James, Cody and Patricia.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Roy, Ron, Gordon, Cecil and Victor.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with a funeral service held at St. George’s Church, Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Francis A. Landry of Someville, formerly of Arlington died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000. He was born in Nova Scotia.
Beloved husband of the late Anna Landry. Father of Frank and his wife Joan Landry, Burlington.
Funeral from the Devito and O’Donnell Funeral Home, 1145 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington Heights, Saturday at 9 a.m. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Eulalia Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Francis’ memory to St. Eulalia Church.
Marjorie Alma MacDougall
93, Sydney
Marjorie Alma MacDougall, 93, of Mapleridge Drive, Sydney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in St. John’s, Nfld., Marjorie was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Mabel (Rumsey) Smith.
She was a member of Trinity United Church and also the John MacIntosh Unit. Marjorie graduated in 1931 as an RN from the Sydney City Hospital School of Nursing and was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge.
Marjorie is survived by two sisters-in-law, Thelma Connor and Ethel MacDougall and a niece, Joan Baker.
She was predeceased by her husband, Victor and a sister, Pauline Smith.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Friday), 2:30-4:30 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel Saturday, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Cemetery.
Cpl. James L. Stevenson
82, Antigonish
Cpl. James Lorenzo Stevenson, 82, a resident of Hawthorne Street, Antigonish and formerly of 26 Young St., North Sydney, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Port aux Basques, Nfld., he was a son of the late Capt. Lorenzo and Mary (Wiseman) Stevenson.
He was a member of the Marine Division of the RCMP for 24 years, retiring in 1970. He lived most of his life in North Sydney before moving to Antigonish two years ago. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 19, North Sydney.
Surviving are his wife, Vida (Coppin) Stevenson; two daughters, Janet Tremblay, Antigonish and Mary Stevenson, Sydney Mines; two granddaughters, Anika (Robert) Ammerman, Antigonish and Marca Tremblay, Halifax; great-granddaughter, Brittany and a sister, Irene Moore, Halifax, N.S.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Bob and Bill and a sister, Olive.
No visitation by request. Funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at St. John the Baptist Church with Rev. Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the homeless.
