Gladys Marina Hawco
81, Sydney
Gladys Marina Hawco, 81, wife of the late Joseph Timothy Hawco, Connaught Street, Sydney, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Lively. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128, Whitney Pier.
She is survived by four sons, Timothy (Margaret), Jack (Mary), Donnie (Sharon) and Barry, all of Sydney; three daughters, Carol (Mrs. Phillip MacKinnon), New Waterford, Patsy (Mrs. Elmer Ranni) and Judy Murphy, both of Sydney; one sister, Evelyn French, Sydney; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Edward Lively, three sisters, Annie May Moffatt, Margaret Moffatt and Katie Stockal.
Visitation will be held Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Monday, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Ronald (Denton) Kaiser
63, Glace Bay
Ronald (Denton) Kaiser, 63, of 26 Mechanic St., Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Port Bickerton, N.S., he was the son of the late Hugh and Annie (Harpell) Kaiser.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. He was a fisherman by trade and well known in the community. Even though his career ended some years ago, he was a frequent visitor to the Glace Bay wharf. Many remember him through his mechanical work and appliance repair. He will be sadly missed by all and especially by close friend, Eddy Yates and special nephew, Hugh Kaiser.
He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Daley; daughter, Melissa (Jimmy), Glace Bay; sons, Jason, at home, Chris (Kathy), Trevor (Melanie), Byron (Sandra), all of Glace Bay, Glen, Ontario and Ronald, Alberta; brothers, Gerald, Catalone, Fred, Sackville, Alfred, Lake Echo; sisters, Charlotte (Mrs. Allister Rudolph), Port Bickerton, Mabel (Mrs. Charles MacDonald), New Minas, Beril (Mrs. Robert MacDonald), Indian Harbour Lake, Joyce (Mrs. Chesley Feltmate), Goshen and Mary (Mrs. Wendall Kaiser), Porter’s Lake. Also surviving are grandchildren, Terry, Shaun, Glen, Jennifer, Jessica, Trevor, Gregory, Melissa, Sherelle, Alyssa and Brandon.
Visitation for the late Mr. Kaiser will be held Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 11, 1999 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay with the Rev. Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Henry David King
73, Watertown, Mass.
Henry David King of Watertown, Mass., died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at Deaconess Waltham Hospital. He was 73.
Born and raised in Florence, N.S., he was the son of late Edward and Annie Mae (Carter) King. He had been a resident of Watertown for the past 35 years. He was employed with Bemus Associates of Watertown for 26 years until his retirement in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Elva (Pero) King; daughters, Raylene Digregorio, Waltham and Lisa Brendan, Syracuse, N.Y.; his son, David King, Old Orchard Beach, Me.; brothers, Joseph and Edward King; sisters, Margaret Viva, Theresa LeBlanc and Marie King and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Clifford King.
Funeral services under the direction of Brasco and Son’s Memorial were held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, with burial in Ridge Lawn Cemetery, Watertown, Mass.
Roy John (Dunnie) McKinnon
79, Glace Bay
Roy (Dunnie) McKinnon, 79, of 73 Quarry Rd., Glace Bay, passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Donald John and Beatrice (Henesbee) McKinnon.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay He was employed with Masons Wholesalers for many years. Later he worked in the mines with Dominion Coal Co. as a mechanic in collieries, Caledonia, No. 20 and retired from No. 26 in 1971. He was an avid gardener.
Mr. McKinnon was a loving father, husband and family person.
He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Dearing; daughters, Dale (Mrs. Larry Neville), Glace Bay, Carol (Mrs. Joe Gracie), Greenwood; son, Roy (Rita), Mississauga, Ont.; brothers, Leonard, Peterborough, Ont., Francis, Glace Bay; sisters, Thelma (Mrs. George Droppo), Brandford, Ont., Elizabeth (Mrs. Ron Laycock), Fredericton, N.B. Also surviving are grandchildren Carol, Charlene, Pamela Sue, Troy; great-grandchildren, Devon, Dhane, Jacob, Joshua, Emma and Carli Renee.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Woodrow and five children in infancy.
Visitation for the late Mr. McKinnon will he held Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with both in V.J. McGillivary Funeral Home and Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay with Fr. John Graham officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Lloyd Walker
51, New Glasgow
Lloyd Walker, 51, formerly of Sydney, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, in New Glasgow.
He was the son of the late Angus and Lena (Crane) Walker of Sydney. Lloyd was employed by Michelin Tire and was a former employee of Sydney Steel.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou (Bailey); daughter Michelle and son, Joseph, both at home. He is also survived by brothers, George, Angus, Winston and David; sisters, Ann Ivany, Elsie Walker, Catherine Taylor, Violet Ostafichuk, Lena Walker, and Eleanor Evans.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ira.
Cremation has taken place. There will he a memorial service held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999 at 2 p.m., followed by a private family burial.
Family flowers only by request.
Lee Harvey Cremo
60, Eskasoni
Lee Harvey Cremo, age 60, of Eskasoni died Sunday, October 1O, 1999, at his home in Eskasoni.
Born at Barra Head, Richmond County, he was the son of the late Simon and Ann (Denny) Cremo. He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Eskasoni. Although best known for playing square dances in the Cape Breton area, he was a well known recording artist, competitive performer and judge in the fiddling community. Lee received many awards throughout Canada and the United States, among them the ECMA, and most recently performed at the launch of the Aboriginal People’s Television Network. He was an active member of an Eskasoni Elder’s committee on the Mi’kmaq language. He was also very proud of his roles in the community as a school bus driver for over 25 years and as a godfather to over forty godchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie (McGuigan) Cremo; his son Timothy; his daughter Elizabeth, and his grandson Clifton; two brothers John G. (Theresa) of Whycocomagh and Cyril Matthew of Eskasoni; and a sister Hazel (Mrs. Thomas Herney) of Eskasoni.
He was predeceased by one sister, Josephine and seven brothers, Simon, Noel, Leo, Clifford A., Peter, Michael, and Clifford Joseph.
The late Mr. Cremo will be resting at the Gabriel Center at Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni with Rev. Robert MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

Percy Abraham Hallett
73, Glace Bay
Percy Hallett, 73, of the Braemore Home, Sydney and formerly of 11 Ling Street, Glace Bay, died at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Oct. 9, 1999.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of Julia (Maude) Hallett and the late George Hallett. He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
Mr. Hallett is survived by his mother, Julia (Maude) Drake Hallett, Glace Bay; sisters, Vivian (Mrs. John Sturgess), Calgary, Alberta, Beulah (Mrs. Ronald Binks), Windsor, Ont., Carol (Mrs. Glen Miller), Windsor, Ont., Frances (Mrs. Robert Gillis); brothers Arthur (Shirley), London, Ont., Del, Glace Bay, Willard (Rose), Glace Bay.
Predeceased by his father George; two brothers and one sister.
Visitation for the late Mr. Hallett was held Monday Oct. 11, 1999 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay with the Rev. Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s cemetery, Glace Bay.
