Sarah Nellie MacDonald
99, Sydney
Nellie Sarah MacDonald, 99, of St. Anthony Drive, Sydney formerly of Loch Lomond passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Breton Bay Nursing Home.
Born in Loch Lomond she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (MacDonald) Holmes. She was a retired school teacher. A graduate of N.S. Normal College, Truro. A member of Loch Lomond United Church and a choir member. Also a member of Loch Lomond Heritage Association. The last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary MacDonald, Sydney and Effie (Angus) MacDonald, Loch Lomond.
She was predeceased by her husband Hector; infant son, Hugh; 3 sisters: Margaret Dugan, Delena Ferguson and Mamie MacDonald, also 1 brother George.
Visitation was held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral service in the chapel Tuesday 2 p.m. with Rev. Tony Ware assisted by Rev. Donald MacDonald. Interment in MacKeigan Cemetery.

Harvey Charles Mailman
59, Louisbourg
Harvey CharIes Mailman, 59, of 2230 Main-a-dieu Road, Louisbourg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Liscomb, Guysbourgh County, he was the son of the late Ellsworth Mailman and Ada Mailman.
He was a member of the MacMillan Memorial United Church Catalone. At the time of his death he was employed by J.K. Marine Services Ltd. in Louisbourg. He has worked in the fishing industry since the age of 14. He held his captain’s ticket, and taught Marine Navigation at Main-a-dieu School. He traveled to Norway and Vancouver to bring back boats and also enjoyed sports fishing and hunting and was an avid tarabish Player.
He is survived by his loving wife Edna Dorothy (Zwicker); devoted father to Kevin (Nancy), Sydney, Heather (Robert Parsons) Main-a-dieu; Ellsworth (Sheri), Westmount; a playful Grampie to Amanda, Crystal, Kevin, Amber, Robyn, Mitchell, Jesse and Lukas. Son of Ada (Winnie) Mailman, Main-a-dieu; 9 sisters, Hilda Rudolph (Gerald) Kentville, Gertie Moore (Walter), Louisbourg, Ivy Wadden (Jim), Main-a-dieu, Louise Bags (Melvin), Glace Bay, Sheila MacMillan (Mucidy), Catalone, Rose Gledhill (Harry), Catalone, Martha Timmons (Eric), Main-a-dieu, Dorothy MacKinnon, Glace Bay, Ruth Butts (Terry), Catalone, 5 brothers, Albert (Marilyn), Main-a-dieu, Wilfred (Marilyn), Glace Bay, Lorence (Alice), Main-a-dieu, Francis (Cathy), Main-a-dieu Jeff (Joanne), Main-a-dieu and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by infant sisters Ruth and Lucy. Visitation will take place today, Oct. 12, 2-4, 7-9 p.m., at the First United Church, Main St. Louisbourg. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m. in the First United Church, Main St., Louisbourg, Rev. Clayton Austin officiating, under the direction of W.A. Chants Funeral Home, Louisbourg.
Harvey passed away surrounded by his whole family. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Christine R. (Chris) Mason
Marion Bridge
Christine R. (Chris) Mason, of Hillside Road, Marion Bridge passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Catalone she was a daughter of the late Malcolm and Catherine (MacDonald) Robertson. She retired as an accounting office clerk. She was a member of St. Columba Presbyterian Church, and AMS of the church.
She is survived by her husband Charles E. Mason; 2 sisters, Annie (George) Morgan, Glace Bay and Mary Robertson, Sydney; 1 brother John Robertson, the Cove Guest Home, Sydney and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 3 sisters Katie, Rhodena (Rudy) and Catherine; 3 brothers, Roddie, Charles and Daniel.
No visitation. A grave side committal service under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel will be held in Oakfield Cemetery, Wednesday 11 a.m. with Rev. David Stewart and Rev. Neil MacLean officiating.
Memorials may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or SPCA and St. Columba Presbyterian Church.

Francis Joseph McIsaac
58, New Waterford
Francis Joseph McIsaac, 58, of 568 George Street, New Waterford died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, after a brief illness.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (MacNeil) McIsaac. He worked as a coal miner for 28 years in #12, Lingan and Prince mines. Francis is survived by his wife Joan and daughter Cynthia of New Waterford; son Robert and grandson Mathew of Brampton, Ontario. He is also survived by sisters Josephine (Stan Eagles) of Port Elgin, Ontario, Irene (Lays) of Woburn, Massachusetts, Julie (Graham Cooper) of Tangier, Nova Scotia and brother Sandy (Lynn) of New Waterford.
Francis was predeceased by sisters Rosina, Nellie, Catherine (Kicie), Teresa, Annie May, Marie and brothers Dan and Freddie.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation for the late Francis J. McIsaac will be held Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Saint Agnes Church with Father Bob Neville officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations to children’s charities would be appreciated.

Dorothy Newton
67, Dartmouth
Dorothy Newton, 67, of Dartmouth died peacefully at home on Oct. 3, 1999.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Euphemia (Campbell) Halleran.
She is survived by three sons, Joe, Vancouver, Kevin and Tommy, both of Dartmouth. Also surviving are three sisters, Twinnie (John Maule), Oshawa, Cassie Krszwda and Betty (Frank House), both of Sydney.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Tom; sisters, Emily, Mary and Sissy; brothers, John, Jackie and Raymond.
Cremation and burial took place in Dartmouth.

Noreen Michelle Paul
19, Eskasoni
Noreen Michelle Paul, 19 of Mountain Rd., Eskasoni, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, as a result of a highway accident.
Born at Sydney, she was the daughter of Michael Andrew and Elizabeth “Betty” (Poulette) Paul of Mountain Rd., Eskasoni. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni. She was a student at Eskasoni Jr. High School and was a fan of WWF Wrestling.
Beside her parents she is also survived by her God Parents Colin Paul and Donna Francis; her only God Child Nilan Francis; four sisters, Marlene Marie, Eskasoni, Patricia Anne (Frank Francis), Eskasoni, Elaine Elizabeth, at home and Norma Jane, Eskasoni; also surviving are nine nieces and nephews, Mary Elizabeth Paul, Paulina Paul, Leanne Paul, Marlena Paul, Shayla Paul, Michael Paul, Stephen Francis, Noel Francis and Nolan Francis.
She was predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents and one niece Kayla Paul.
The late Miss Paul had visitation Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, after 7 p.m. at the family residence, 5218 Mountain Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Holy Family Church, Eskasoni with Rev. Robert MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.

Lloyd F. Campbell
60, Millville
Lloyd Francis Campbell, 60, of Millville, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late James H. and Viola (Marsh) Campbell. He operated a farm in Millville and was the Purina Feed Dealer in the area for a number of years. He was a member of the Cape Breton Federation of Agriculture. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Bras d'Or.
Surviving are his wife, the former Dolena O'Toole; two sons, Todd, at home and Jamie, Ottawa; one daughter, Tracey (Wayne Munro), Florence; three grandchildren, Christopher, Josh and Jessica; four brothers, Adrian (Sally), David (Doreen), Emmett (Betty), all of Bras d'Or and Wayne (Bernadette), Millville; three sisters, Colleen (Mrs. Brian Harrietha), Millville, Patricia (Mrs. Colin MacIntyre), Big Bras d'Or and Sandra (Mrs. Bud Rice), Florence. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews, who were very special to him.
He was predeceased by an infant brother, David.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Bras d'Or with the Rev. Joseph Gillis officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Parish Hall Fund, Bras d'Or.
