Mary Theresa (Boutilier) Jones
64, Sydney Mines
Mary Theresa Jones (Boutilier), of 219 Main St., Sydney Mines, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the Northside General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Annie (Miller) Boutilier. She was a member of St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Jones, with whom she resided, Sydney Mines; husband, Conrad Jones, Sydney Mines; sister, Ann Dawe, Sydney Mines; one brother, Michael Boutilier, Ontario. She is also survived by a special nephew, Michael Dawe, Mount Uniacke, N.S.; two special nieces, Alice Pye, Sydney Mines and Ella LeBoutillier, Peterbourgh, Ont.
Predeceased by one daughter, Rita Jones, maternal grandparents, George and Mary Miller and paternal grandparents, Alex and Mary Boutilier.
Visitation will take place at G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, today 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines with Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Sleep well my love, for God has taken you home. She will be sadly missed by her only surviving daughter Nancy. I love you mom.
David Henry Lyons
69, Port Caledonia
David Henry Lyons, 69, of Port Caledonia, passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Donkin, he was the son of the former Minnie (Parsons) Lyons, Donkin and the late John Lyons.
David was a member of St. Lukes United Church, Donkin. He was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge "The Thistle Lodge No. 36", Port Morien. He was a member of the Lodge of Perfection, Valley of Sydney, also a member of the Keith Sovereign Chapter of Rose Croix, receiving 15-18 degrees, May 28, 1983, member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, N.S. Consistory receiving 19-32 degrees March 1984.
David was inducted into Shriners Philae Temple, Halifax Dec. 1984. He was a member of the C.B. Shrine Club, Sydney, 1985. He was Dist. Deputy Grand Master for Cape Breton Centre, 1988-1989. David was inducted into the Royal Order of Jesters Court No. 155 N.S. on Dec. 2, 1988.
He was employed as a firefighter at the Pt. Edward Naval Base then later with the Sydney Airport. He was a member of the Cape Breton Firefighters Fraternal Association.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary S. MacDonald; one daughter, Jennifer Lyons, North Vancouver; one son, James and wife, Andrea, Black Brook; special nephew, Stuart MacDonald, Birch Grove; one brother, Gordon (Christine), Florida; one sister, Lillian Murrant, Donkin. David was also survived by two aunts, Meg OıBrien, Glace Bay, Freda Caines, Toronto and several nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by one brother, James.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive relatives and friends Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place Friday, 2 p.m. in St. Lukes United Church, Donkin with the Rev. Jim Chisholm officiating. Burial in Black Brook Cemetery.
Family flowers only. As an expression of sympathy for David, donations may be made to the VON or St. Lukes United Church.
Masons will gather at St. Lukes United Church, Friday at 2 p.m. for a Masonic Service.
John Archie MacLean
85, Glace Bay
John Archie MacLean, 85, of Seaview Manor and formerly of MacDougall Street and Nolans Lane, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the manor.
Born in Catalone, Cape Breton County, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (MacLean) MacLean.
He was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay. He was a carpenter by trade, working with J.W. Stephens and Chappell's Building Supplies and retiring from the Fortress of Louisbourg in 1979. He was a member of Local 1588 Carpenter's Union.
Mr. MacLean, a kind and loving brother, leaves behind to mourn his loss, sisters, Margaret Knox, Maine, Florence Van Tassel, Saint John, N.B., Grace (Bert) Oldford, Glace Bay and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Freda Pynn, four sisters in childhood, two brothers, Lauchie and Murray.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacLean will be held Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David MacLean officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney Highway.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Joseph (Pook) F. Parsons
62, North Sydney
Joseph (Pook) Francis Parsons, 62, a resident of 16 Marconi St., North Sydney, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Morrison) Parsons. At one time he was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, North Sydney and a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 19.
He is survived by two sisters, Bette (Mrs. Michael Gouthro), Bras d'Or and Mary (Mrs. Roy Bradbury), Scarborough. Also survived by 17 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd and Richard, one sister, Catherine Young.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will take place Friday 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Jessie Sarah Dawson
97, St. Peter's
Jessie Sarah Dawson, 97, a resident of Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s and formerly of Grand River, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the villa.
Born in Grand River, she was the daughter of the late John and Dolena (Nicholson) Dawson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by two sons, Hughie, Bay Bert, Nfld. and John, River Bourgeois; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Douglas, four sisters, Bethel, Cassie, Tena and Mary, five brothers, Dan Hughie, Angus, Peter, Jimmy and Dannie.
Visitation will be held at the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s, Thursday from 2-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Friday 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Burial in Grand River Cemetery.

Paul Gregory Gardiner
46, Glace Bay
Paul Gregory Gardiner, 46, of 9 Reservoir Ave., Glace Bay, died at the Queen Elizabeth II, Health Sciences Center, Halifax, Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of Sally (MacKenzie) Gardiner and the late Michael Gardiner. Paul was employed with the Cape Breton District School Board, presently teaching in Bridgeport School.
Paul is survived by his wife, Pamela (Blunden) Gardiner; his mother, Sally Gardiner, Reserve Mines; four children, Kyle and Ryan, both of Glace Bay, Milan and Marsha Blare, both at home; sisters, Shelly (Mrs. Wendell McNeil), Reserve Mines, Stephanie (Mrs. Jerry Curry), Sydney, Melanie (Mrs. Tom McIntyre), Glace Bay and Krista, Reserve Mines; brother, Michael (Birgitt), Ontario; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation by request of the family.
Funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. in Epworth United Church, York Street, Glace Bay with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Sister Edna Hall, CND
Sydney
Sister Edna Hall, CND (Sister St. Edmund Martyr), died at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (MacNeil) Hall. Sister made her religious profession in the Congregation of Notre Dame on August 24, 1938. Her teaching career included St. Peter’s, Port Hood, St. Patrick’s, Montreal and Holy Redeemer, Sydney.
Due to ill health, Sister retired from teaching in 1956. Sister continued to do other ministries at St. Theresa’s Convent and Holy Angles Convent, Sydney.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, Sister Edna was predeceased by her parents; five sisters, Ethel, Sara, Catherine, Josephine and Beatrice and three brothers, Patrick, Ambrose and John.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews in Sydney Mines.
Visitation will be held on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, with a Bible Vigil at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney.
