Doug MacIntosh
54, Glace Bay
Joseph Douglas MacIntosh, 54, of Steels Hill, Glace Bay, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ellen (Rutledge) MacIntosh.
He had been employed as a salesman and last worked with J. & E. Electrical in Minto, N.B. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish. He was an avid sports follower and an outdoorsman who spent much of his leisure hours fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his companion, Janet Arsenault; Billa Murphy, a long time family friend; also an uncle, Rannie (R.B.) MacIntosh; two aunts, Edna (Rutledge) Cusack and Mary (MacIntosh) MacNeil, also a number of cousins.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Interment in follow in the parish cemetery.

Lorna Lillian MacPherson
90, Dominion
Lorna Lillian MacPherson, age 90, formerly of King’s Road, Dominion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she had been a resident for the past five years.
She was the daughter of the late Louis and Lillian (Murphy) Boutilier of Port Morien and had resided in Dominion all of her married life. Prior to her marriage, she had worked in the Boston area for several years. She was a member of Chalmers United Church, Dominion.
She leaves to mourn sons, Ronald (wife Erna Sheppard), Malcolm; daughters, Lillian (Mrs. Robert MacIsaac), Julia (Mrs. Terrence Mosley); sister, Mary (Mrs. Havelock Blades); brothers, Gilbert, Sanford and Weldon; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm (“Malcie Brassy”) in 1976, infant son, Sanford, brothers, Robert, Carlyle and Elmer, sisters, Winnifred (Mrs. Edgar Denney), Ina (Mrs. Donald Holman) and Clara “Toddy” (Mrs. Ralph Martell).
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacPherson was held Thursday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Friday (today) at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Ocean Avenue Cemetery, Dominion.
Any memorials in Lorna’s memory may be made to the Diabetic Association or charity of choice.

Donald Roach
58, New Waterford
It is with deep regret I announce the passing of my dear husband, Donald Roach, of 336 Arthur St., New Waterford, on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Sadie and Gus Roach. He was a member of Mount Carmel Parish and a retired miner from Lingan Colliery.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Matthys, formerly of Scotchtown; four children, whom he loved dearly, Donnie Jr. and his wife, Kim, Halifax, Joey, Ontario, Greta (Mrs. Joe Fortune), New Waterford, Donna Roach, Halifax; four grandchildren, who were his pride and joy also survive, Steven, Anthony, Emily and Crystal; three sisters, Margaret Jury, New Waterford, Georgina King, Ontario, Tellie Fraser, Manitoba; two brothers, Joe, Manitoba and Gussie, Ontario.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday, 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations to the Cape Breton Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

Bernie James Rose
51, North Sydney
Bernard James Rose, 51, of Pleasant Street, North Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, after a brief illness at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of Cecilia (Woodfine) Rose, North Sydney and of the late Maurice Rose. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 8. He was employed as a welder most of his life.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his loving companion and friend, Barbara MacDonald and her son, Pat, North Sydney; one daughter, Trina (Gary) Lively, Petawawa, Ont.; one son, Shawn (Sandra MacDonald), Guelph, Ont.; four grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kristopher, Brandon and Colton; two sisters, Cecilia (Mrs. Brian McCrann), Ottawa and Anne (Mrs. David LeBlanc), Point Aconi; four brothers, Joe (Pauline), Montreal, Thomas (Janie), North Sydney, William (Janie), Sydney Mines and Patrick, Sydney. Also surviving is one Godchild, Ashley Bailey.
Bernie was predeceased by a sister in infancy, Ellen Jane.
Visitation was 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. Friday (today) in St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

Russell G. Clements
47, New Waterford
Russell G. Clements, 47, of Lingan Road, New Waterford, died tragically as a result of a motor vehicle accident Friday, Oct. 22, 1999.
Born in New Waterford in 1952, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Elizabeth (Carrigan) Clements. He was a member of Mount Carmel Parish. He was employed by the Cape Breton Development Corp. for 29 years. Mr. Clements excelled in boxing, winning the Maritime Lightweight Championship in 1971. He remained involved in the sport for many years, training many fighters from Ring 73, Glace Bay and also the Archie Bear Boxing Club, New Waterford.
He was the loving father of Shawn, 26, Trenton, Kimberly, 25, Russell Jr., 18, both of New Waterford. Also survived by six grandchildren, Samantha, Crystal, Jessica, Jenna, Dylan and Coady; brothers, Thomas, Bay Ridge, Freeman, Barrie, Ont., Wilfred, Oromocto, Gary, Moncton, Augustus and William, both of Dartmouth and Charles and Edward, both of New Waterford; sisters, Ethel (Mrs. Carl Da Silva), Toronto, Ella (Mrs. Greg Larode), Dartmouth, Agatha (Mrs. Allan Crowell), Dartmouth, Pauline (Mrs. Frank Selvet), New Waterford, Emerance (Mrs. Richie Burke), New Waterford, Dorothy (Mrs. Fred Bishop), Lingan.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Johnny.
He will also be sadly missed by former wife and friend, Irene; also sadly missed by his companion, Darlene and family, Christine, Belinda and Mathew.
Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Smith Street, New Waterford Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Mount Carmel Church at 10 a.m.

Norman Philip MacLeod
81, Sydney
Norman P. MacLeod, 81, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney, and formerly of Wreck Cove, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at the home.
Born at Wreck Cove, he was the son of the late Philip MacLeod and Maggie (James) MacLeod. He was a member of Bethel United Church, Skirduh. He was also a veteran, serving overseas with the Merchant Marines during the Second World War. Mr. MacLeod made his living as a fisherman and construction worker, he was also an avid trapper and hunter.
He is survived by his companion of 25 years, Ruth Matheson; nieces, Dorothy MacLean, Baddeck, Elaine MacLeod, Ontario and a nephew, Hector MacLeod, Ontario. Also survived by one brother, Alexander Joseph.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Bessie MacLeod, Mary MacLeod and three brothers, Roddie, John Alex and Malcolm.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacLeod will be held Saturday, 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Calvin Presbyterian Church, French River. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Calvin Presbyterian Church. Burial in Ocean View Cemetery, Birch Plain.

Maryanne Kathleen Nason
66, Fredericton
Maryanne Nason, 66, of Fredericton, died peacefully at her family home on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, surrounded by her family and her two beloved cats, Willie and Buster, following a sudden illness.
Maryanne was born in Grand Pré, N.S. in 1933, daughter of the late Stuart and Marguerite (DeWitt) Trenholm. She spent her early years in Wolfville, before moving to Fredericton with her husband in 1953.
Maryanne will be fondly remembered by many – both old and young alike – as the “Lego Lady of Fredericton.” She took great enjoyment in welcoming children to her home – Fredericton’s “Legoland.” She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her family and in her home.
Maryanne will be deeply missed by her four children, Debbie Nason and her husband, Charles McAllister, Fredericton, Sharon Montgomery, Sydney, N.S., David Nason and his wife, Diane Vallaincourt, Bathurst, and John Nason and his wife, Pierrette Nason, Elmsdale, N.S. She was a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren who will miss her dearly, Andrew and Scott McAllister, Kevin Legere, Benjamin and Spencer Montgomery, Jeffrey and Sarah Nason, and Kathleen and Matthew Nason. She is also survived by a brother, Ian Trenholm and his wife Joan, Winnipeg, Man., and her sisters-in-law, Margaret Colis, Ottawa and Ida Trenholm, Stoney Creek, Ont., and several nieces and nephews.
Maryanne was predeceased by her husband, Harry A. Nason, in 1994, with whom she shared 40 wonderful years and by one brother, Bill.
The family will receive visitors at McAdam’s Funeral Home, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Maryanne’s life will be held in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bill MacLeod officiating.
Following cremation, interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and in acknowledgement of the exceptional care Maryanne and her family received at the Chalmers Hospital, the family suggests donations to the Chalmers Hospital Foundation, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St.
