Frances Delrosa Brymer
L'Ardoise
Frances Delrosa Brymer, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 1999, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in L’Ardoise in 1922, she was the daughter of the late Henry Placid and Sophia Alice (Landry) Burke. She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L’Ardoise.
Surviving are sons, Dwight R. Brymer and Peg, Calgary, Alta., Graham G. Brymer and Corinne, Stouffville, Ont.; daughter, Mary (McInnis) Young and Larry, Sydney; grandchildren, Brock, Joseph Brymer, Newmarket, Ont., Kenneth Lawrence Young, Nadine Marie Young, Jacalyn Aletha Young, all of Sydney; brothers, Harry James Burke and Eileen, Halifax, George Murdock Burke and Peggy, L’Ardoise, John Alexander Burke and Marie, Red Island, N.S., Robert Vincent Burke and Ann, L’Ardoise and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Joseph Brymer.
She was a special person who enjoyed skunking anyone who would challenge her to a game of crib, and who always thought of others before herself, even during her sickness.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L’Ardoise with the Rev. John MacIntyre officiating. Burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to Palliative Care.
Arrangements entrusted to Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.

Eva Catherine McEwan
89, Sydney Mines
Dearest Eva passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at home.
She was the daughter of the late Ernest Clark and the late Catherine (MacDonald) Clark. Born in Centerville, Sydney Mines, she was a lifetime resident of the community.
She is survived by one special daughter, Lorraine (Mrs. Cyril Aker); two sons, William McEwan, Breton Bay Nursing Home and Brian McEwan (Joy), Halifax. She is survived by several sisters and brothers, Mary Morrison, Edna Gordon, both of Sydney Mines, Gladys Holly, Eureka, Pictou and Allan Clark, Elmer (Mooney) Clark, both of Sydney Mines; four dear grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who lightened her life each day.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Brown McEwan, sisters, Martha Pottle, Olive Pottle, Lillian Clark, brothers, Ernest Clark, William Clark, David Clark and Frank Clark.
Eva was an honourary member of the Seniors and Pensioners Club of Sydney Mines. She was an active member of the community all of her 89 years.
We were all so blessed to have Eva with us for so long. My mother was like a rose opening up ready for another special day full of laughter and love that brightened everyday of our lives. She was my friend, my mother and my sister all rolled into one. She will be sadly missed by all of her family.
Visitation will take place today (Thursday), Nov. 4, 1999, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Funeral service will take place at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home Chapel Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Allison MacLean officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Bernice Mary McLellan
63, New Waterford
Bernice Mary McLellan, 63, of New Waterford, C.B., formerly of Ottawa, Ont., died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Delwin and Dolly (Gouthro) O’Handley.
A loving mother, grandmother and sister, she is survived by sons, Michael, Wakefield, Que., Danny, Ottawa, Ont.; daughters, Debbie, Rome, Italy, Dana, St. Jean, Que., Diane Wagner, Trenton, Ont., Jackie Kennedy, Ottawa, Ont. Also survived by brothers, Daniel O’Handley, Toronto, Ont., Ronnie Syms, Orangeville, Ont.; sister, Janice O’Neill, New Waterford, with whom she resided; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Roderick McLellan, brother, Michael Eldrige (Eldie).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax. Memorial service 2 p.m. today, in J. Albert Walker Chapel with the Rev. Michael Walsh officiating. Memorial services will be held at a later date in New Waterford, Cape Breton County and Ottawa, Ont.
In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Olive Ileen Murray
86, North Sydney
Olive Ileen Murray, 86, a resident of 12 Campbell St., North Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at the Northside General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Amelia (Billard) Amey. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church and a member of Ruth Unit UCW.
Surviving two daughters, Sheila (Mrs. Ronald Lyman), Orlando, Fla., Wanda (Mrs. James Davidson), North Sydney; four sons, Phillip, Sydney Mines, Roy (Catherine), Thunder Bay, Ont., Gerald (Marilyn), Kentville, Roland (Janet), Ottawa, Ont.; four sisters, Ruth Forsey, Ethel Francis and Jean Walsh, all of North Sydney, Gloria Neilson, Vancouver, B.C.; one brother, Gerald, Halifax; nine grandchildren, Alan, Stephen, Elizabeth, Pamela, Ronald, Amy, Brian, Jason and Shannon; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kathleen; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roy and three brothers, Arthur, William and Roland.
Visitation Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Saturday 11 a.m. from St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney with the Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Matthew Wesley United Church.

Ella Ida Sutherland
73, Glace Bay
Ella Ida Sutherland, 73, of Breton Bay Nursing Home and former resident of Glace Bay, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at the Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Annie (MacVicar) Sutherland. Ella was a member of Warden United Church, Glace Bay and a former employee with the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Unmarried, Ella is survived by one brother, Allan (Vicar) Sutherland, Oxford, N.S. and a former resident of Glace Bay; one niece, Camilla Dickie, Oxford; four nephews, Allan, Halifax, Chester, Glace Bay, Arthur, Ottawa and Edward, Kamloops, B.C.
Besides her parents, Ella was predeceased by a sister, Jean and a sister in infancy.
Visitation will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mary Dolena MacLennan
90, Middle River
Mary Dolena MacLennan, 90, of Middle River, Victoria County, N.S., died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born in Middle River, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Jennie (MacKenzie) Grant. She was a member of the Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River.
She is survived by one sister, Christene (Tena) Douglas, Baddeck; one grandnephew, and two grandnieces, all residing in Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband, Murdock, son, Harvey, two brothers, George and John William and one sister, Annie.
Her remains will rest at MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck, Saturday, Nov. 6 with visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at the Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River Sunday, 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth E. Allen officiating. Burial will be in Middle River Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Monica (Campbell) McDonald
Prayer Service
Monica (Campbell) McDonald, 84, formerly of Glace Bay, passed away Sunday, May 9, 1999, in Halifax.
Surviving are her daughter, Joan; sons, Alan and Gregory; sister, Camilla and five grandchildren.
Monica is predeceased by her husband, Dr. J.A. McDonald and son, Paul.
In accordance to Monica’s wishes, a prayer service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999 at 11 a.m. at McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, Glace Bay with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Prior to the service family will receive friends in the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
