Fred G. Connolly
53, North Sydney
Frederick (Fred) Gordon Connolly, 53, a resident of 70 Brook St., North Sydney, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Frederick and Bridget (Lemoine) Connolly. He was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney for the past 35 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are his wife Marilyn (Swan); son, Presley, at home; two daughters, Theresa, at home, and Dolores Miles, Dartmouth; two grandchildren Norman and Michael of Dartmouth; two brothers, Jim Connolly and Bill Connolly, both of North Sydney; five sisters, Mary (Mrs. Johnston Hastie), North Sydney, Louise Lemoine, North Sydney, Lucy (Mrs. Cecil Horton), North Sydney, Gladys (Mrs. Richard Gillis), Scotch Lake, and Sandra MacKinnon, North Sydney. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 7-9 p.m. on Monday; 2-4, 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service is Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.S. or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Joan Hillman
Passed away suddenly at her home on Nov. 10, 1999, at the age of 66.
She was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Helen (MacDonald) Morrison, formerly of Charlotte St., Sydney, N.S. Beloved wife of Gary; much loved mother of Janeen, Dawn, Helen and Missy. Survived by her loving sister, Zelia (Mrs. Stan Burton) of Sydney, N.S. Adored Nana of Jeffery, Gary, Amanda, Derrick and Kristie. Loved by niece Jauna Burton of Sydney, N.S., and nephew John Burton of Halifax, N.S.
She will be sorely missed by all her relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held on Sat., Nov. 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, Oakville, Ont.
Dan James Krewenki
77, Glace Bay
Dan James Krewenki, 77, of 235 King Edward St., Glace Bay, died Nov. 13, 1999, at his residence.
Born in Thorburn, N.S., he was the son of the late Paul and Catherine (Brown) Krewenki. Dan was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Glace Bay. He was employed as a coal miner for over 40 years, retiring from #26 Colliery in 1984. Dan loved to bowl and play cards.
Surviving is one daughter, Verna (Mrs. Kevin Nash), Glace Bay; five sons, Bernie (Debbie), Roddie (Kim), David (Theresa), Daniel (Alice), all of Glace Bay, and Reggie (Nadia), British Columbia; three brothers, Johnny, Glace Bay, Paul, Sydney and Jimmy, Mount Forest, Ont.; two sisters, Myna Gillis and Helen, both of Glace Bay. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren.
Dan was predeceased by four sisters, Murial, Mary, Marsha (Tushie) and Catherine.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay (849-4505). Funeral service will be held on Wednesday 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery, Maple Ave., Glace Bay.
Hughie MacAulay
47, New Waterford
Hughie MacAulay, 47, of 266 King Street, New Waterford, passed away suddenly Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford Sept. 14, 1952, Hughie was the son of the late Eugene and Anna Jane (MacCann) MacAulay. He was a member of Mount Carmel Church and a former coal miner having worked in Lingan Colliery for 18 years until his retirement. Hughie was an active member of the harness racing business having raced horses for 30 years as owner, trainer and driver at Tartan Downs Raceway in Sydney. Hughie’s love for his family and horses will always live on.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Loretta (Kearney) MacAulay, one very special daughter Jane Anne, who was his partner in harness racing. He is also survived by one brother Ronnie, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, one sister Diane, New Waterford.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one infant son, Hughie.
He will be always loved and greatly missed by family and friends.
Visitation for the late Hughie MacAulay will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral mass which will be held at 2 p.m. in Mount Carmel Church with Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Area horsemen are asked to assemble at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 1:15 p.m. to form an honor guard for Hughie.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Robert Arthur MacEachern
95, Sydney

Arthur MacEachern was born in New Aberdeen on June 23, 1904. He peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Nov. 12th. He was a long time resident of Birchdale Dr., Sydney River, and was currently residing at Breton Bay Nursing Home with his wife Margaret.
As a miner, he was almost killed in a rock fall and told that he would never walk again. However, after his recovery he went on to serve as an electrician at the naval base. Arthur and Margaret celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June.
He is survived by the following family, Kate MacEachern, River Ryan, Charlie and Irene MacMillan, Scotchtown, Marie MacMillan, Bob and Jean MacMillan, Eddie MacMillan, all of New Waterford, and Pearl Quelette, Philadelphia.
Thank you to the staff at the regional hospital and especially to the staff of Breton Bay.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 15, at Sydney Memorial Chapel from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, Davenport Rd., on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. with burial in Forest Haven.
Nellie Ann MacNeil
72, Sydney
Nellie MacNeil, 72, of the Cove Guest Home, formerly of Yendys St., Sydney, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sat., Nov. 13, 1999 at the home.
Born at North Shore, Vict. Co., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth J. and Annie (MacLean) Morrison. She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney. She was employed with the City of Sydney Hospital as a ward aid, retiring in 1984. Nellie had great love for the music of her Gaelic and Scottish heritage.
She is survived by two daughters Roberta Steele, Sydney, and Heather (Gerald) MacNeil, Sydney; two sons Johnny Carl (Frances), Sydney, and Kenny (Heather), Sydney; three sisters, Tena Reid, Sydney, Josie Leonard, Windsor, Ont., and Norma Campbell, Big Bras d’Or. Also surviving are six grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband Lawrence MacNeil in 1984; two sisters Sadie Delaney and Margaret in infancy; two brothers, Melvin Morrison and Fabian Morrison.
The late Mrs. MacNeil will have visitation today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Anthony Daniel Church with Fr. E. MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Mario Feltrin
84, New Waterford
Mario Feltrin, 84, 3054 Plummer Ave., New Waterford died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on Dec. 10, 1914 in Covolo di Piave, Italy, he was the son of the late Angelo and Amabile (Bortoluzzi) Feltrin. He was a member of Mount Carmel parish. He worked for 43 years as a miner with the Dominion Coal Company and Devco.
Mario was a kind and gentle man, who loved the beautiful things in nature and one could certainly see this in his flower and vegetable garden. He was an avid sportsman and woodsman.
Surviving are his loving daughter, Angelina (James) Griffin, loving son, Anthony, both of New Waterford; a brother, Al and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Michael (Danielle), Ottawa, Ont., Anthony, Angela, Jamie, Christopher, all of New Waterford.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former lrma (Cecchetto).
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Thursday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral is Friday at 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church, with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
