Cora Young
83, Glace Bay
Cora Young, 83, of Valley View Seniors Complex and formerly of Bridgeport, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Jane (Boutilier) Spencer. Cora was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport.
She is survived by daughter, Mary, Toronto; sons, Wilfred, Glace Bay, Raymond (Theresa), Dominion; brothers, Wilfred, B.C., Eric, Toronto. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Raymond (Rex) Young, daughter, Lena May, in infancy, sisters, Charlotte, Lorna, Mary Jane, brothers, Lawrence, Freeman and George.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Dorothy (Dot) Brunet
74, Glace Bay
Dorothy (Dot) Brunet, 74, of Glace Bay, passed away on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, peacefully at home.
Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Elizabeth (Moore) O’Neil.
She is survived by daughters, Dorothy (Dan MacDonald), Rose (Bill Thomson), Liz MacDonald, Paula and Linda (Joe Matheson), special niece Glenda MacDonald, all of Glace Bay; sons, Patty (Margaret), George (Donna), Peter (Janet), all of Glace Bay, Tommy, at home. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Hennesey, B.C., Lillian Hennesey, Ontario, Beth Noftall, Newfoundland; 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, George Brunet, daughter, Elizabeth Rose in infancy, sister Madeline Tait and one brother, Paddy O’Neil.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Nov. 24 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to Palliative Care, VON or Canadian Cancer Society.
Gordon Clarke
77, Big Bras d'Or
Gordon Clarke, 77, of Big Bras d’Or, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999.
Born in Florence, he was a son of the late William and Annie Janet Clarke.
Gordon is survived by two brothers, Daniel, Regina and Leslie, Florence.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Annie and Flossie and two brothers, John and Albert, several brothers and sisters in infancy.
There will be no funeral service, as Gordon wished his body be donated to science.
Lillian F. Fudge
63, North Sydney
Lillian F. Fudge, 63, a resident of 40 Forman St., North Sydney, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, in the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Ada (Osborne) Fudge.
In her earlier years she worked at the Braemore Home in Sydney. She was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel in North Sydney and later in Sydney Mines.
Surviving are two daughters, Marie Forest, Linda (Mrs. Blair MacDonald), both of North Sydney; three sons, Steven (Mary) Curnew, Courtenay, B.C., Harris Cooper, North Sydney, Patrick Cooper, York Mills, Ont.; two sisters, Tena (Mrs. David Glogowski), Sydney Mines, Betty (Mrs. David Ripka), Lindsay, Ont.; one brother, Winston Fudge, Ottawa; eight grandchildren; five great-grandsons and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Gerald and two brothers, John and Gerald.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney
Funeral service will be held Friday 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Captains Rocky and Janice Bishop officiating and assisted by Michael Connolly. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Legion Memorial Chapel or the Salvation Army.
Alfred and Eva (Gilroy) Jessen
Memorial Service
A memorial and committal service for the late Alfred Hadburg Jessen, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, and his wife Eva (Gilroy) Jessen, who passed away Jan. 27, 1997, will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney, Thursday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Janie Elizabeth Julian
40, Membertou
Janie Elizabeth Julian, 40, of 167 Membertou St., Membertou, formerly of Eskasoni, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Martha (Paul) Lewis.
She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney. Janie was very skilled as a native craftsperson who worked in bead work, leather and quill work.
Surviving are her loving companion, Thomas G. (Tommy) Paul, Membertou; three daughters, Shannon and Samantha, both of Afton, Carlina, Membertou; two sons, Terry, Afton and Donald Jr., Membertou; eight sisters, Maureen Sullivan, East Bridgewater, Mass., Shirley (Mike) Virden, Minneapolis, Harriet, Annette and Patsy, all of Eskasoni, Edna, Sydney, Marilyn, Eskasoni and JoAnne (Dale) Sylliboy, Millbrook; four brothers, Gordon, Wagmatcook, Elmer (June), Wilbur (Mary) and Russell, all of Eskasoni.
Predeceased by a daughter, Leila Ann, two sisters, Miranda Gabriel and Pauline Lewis and one brother, John.
The late Ms. Julian will have visitation after 7 p.m. Thursday at 167 Membertou St., Membertou. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony Daniel Church. Interment in Membertou Gardens, Membertou.
Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Oncology Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Elizabeth Joanne (MacInnis) Kelly
51, Reserve Mines
Elizabeth Joanne (MacInnis) Kelly, 51, of 100 Tompkinsville Reserve Mines, died Monday, Nov. 21, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of John (Geazer) and Toni (Stanley) MacInnis.
Elizabeth was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Elizabeth was a pre-school teacher with Dominion and Passchendale and at one time she was director with the Passchendale Police Girls Club and she also enjoyed her craft skill with her many friends in Reserve Mines.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, James Kelly and grandson, Brennan; daughter, Tammy, stepson, Jammie, both of Ontario; sister, Susan (Joss) Thomson, Glace Bay; brothers, Johnny (Lynn), Stevie (Cathy), both of Glace Bay; granddaughter, Ainsley, Ontario; five step-grandchildren and two godchildren, Dammie MacInnis and Joline Pyke, both of Glace Bay.
Visitation will be held Wednesday Nov. 24 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass and committal service will be held Friday Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church in Reserve Mines with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
