Gertrude McIntosh
87, Glace Bay
Gertrude McIntosh, 87, a resident of Valley View Complex, 86 Nolans Lane, Glace Bay, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Bella “May” (MacAulay) Penny. She was a member of Epworth United Church, Glace Bay.
Surviving are daughters, Ruth Marie (Mrs. Jim Crosby), Round Island, Catherin (Mrs. Ben O’Brien), Glace Bay and Mable Carol Young, King City, Ontario; son, Harold (Norma) MacIntosh, Round Island; sister, Jessie Penny, Sydney. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Francis McIntosh, son, John Gerald McIntosh, sister, Eva MacKinnon and a brother in infancy.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. McIntosh. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Donations in Gertrude’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Epworth United Church are suggested as an expression of sympathy.

Fabian A. O'Rielly
Frenchvale
Fabian O’Rielly, 68, of Frenchvale, C.B., formerly of West Hill, Ont., died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at his home.
Born at Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alphonsus and Margaret (Mullins) O’Rielly.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Frenchvale. He was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 151 East Bay. He retired from the Department of Transportation and Highways in 1996 after almost 20 years of service. Fabe worked as a fisherman in his earlier years and always loved to be on the water.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, the former Mary MacMullin; daughter Danita (Donnie) MacNeil, Frenchvale; son, Terrance (Helen), Toronto; sister, Mrs. Margaret Treytten, Glace Bay; brother, Patrick, Glace Bay; seven grandchildren, Krista, Stuart and Laura MacNeil, Ashlee, Leslee, Mathew and Michael O’Rielly, all of whom will forever love and miss their dear “Fabe.” Also he will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by two brothers, Ferdinand and Terrance and by a sister, Ciss, Mrs. Major Butts.
The late Mr. O’Rielly will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 25 in St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, Frenchvale.
Donations may be made to the Parish Building Fund or the Talbot House, Frenchvale.

William G. (Bill) Snow
86, Sydney
Bill Snow, 86, of Sydney, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Whitney Pier, he was the son of the late Jerimiah and Catherine (Fahey) Snow. He was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish. He was employed with Sydney Steel Corp. for 43 years and the last several years as blast furnace manager.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jessie MacLean; one daughter, Della (John) Embregts, Markham, Ont., one son, John (Cathy), Halifax; one sister, Mary Stubinski, Ottawa; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was predeceased by one brother, John.
The late Mr. Snow will have visitation Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Placide (Patrice) AuCoin
80, Cheticamp
Placide (Patrice) AuCoin, 80, of Cheticamp, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at home.
Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late William Aucoin and Eulalie (Deveau) Aucoin.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. He was a veteran of the Second World War; also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 32, Cheticamp. He was an employee of Cape Breton Highlands National Park as well as a member of the Senior Citizens Club, Cheticamp.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Therese Boudreau; four sons, Gaston (Claire), Sydney Mines, Yvon (Kay), Halifax, Patrice, Halifax and Andre (Helena), Cheticamp; four daughters, Denise (Mrs. Frank Richardson), Oromocto, N.B., Lise AuCoin, Cheticamp, Lisette Cormier, Cheticamp and Anna (Mrs. Scottie MacDougall), Dartmouth and half-sister, Josephine Gouthro, Middle River. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Leanne, Brent, Alan, Randall, Amy, Nicole, Natalie, Kayla and Taylor.
Predeceased by son, Roger, sister, Marie Luce and three half-sisters, Sophie, Elizabeth and Annie, two half-brothers, Alex and Joseph.
Visitation is at Cheticamp Funeral Home from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday (today). Funeral mass is 10 a.m. Friday in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. Interment in parish cemetery.
Family flowers only, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Hospital Charitable Foundation.

Leo Roy Steeves
76, Sydney
Leo Roy Steeves, 76, of MacGuire Drive, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regiolal Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late George and Jean (Thompson) Steeves.
He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138 Ashby. He retired from the Sydney Steel Plant.
He will be sadly missed by eight sons, Malcolm (Joann), with whom he resided, Leo (Nora), Ronald (Debbie), Lewis (Cathy), Brian, Gerald (Margie), all of Sydney, Raymond (Bonnie), Calgary and Russell (Jean), Toronto; 10 grandchildren, one brother, Gerald, Truro and one sister, Phyllis Jones, U.S.A.
He was predeceased by his wife, Irene Bethwaite in 1989 and one brother, Raymond in 1990.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church with the Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Donald Gordon (Bobby) Wadden
67, Glace Bay
Donald Gordon (Bobby) Wadden, 67, of 182 Connaught Ave., Glace Bay, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late David and Effie (MacDonald) Wadden.
Mr. Wadden was a member of Chalmers United Church and was very active in the church. Mr. Wadden worked as a supervisor with the Cape Breton Development Corp., until his retirement from Phalen Colliery in 1989.
Mr. Wadden is survived by his wife, Dulcie (Collins) Wadden; son, Leroy (Brenda), Dominion; daughters, Deborah (Dale) Billard, Linda (Dale) MacLean, both of Glace Bay; five grandchildren, Lisa, Stephanie, Christopher, Dawn and Jennifer.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 26, 1999 at 2 p.m. in Chalmers United Church, Dominion with the Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Ocean Avenue Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Viola Edna Campbell
91, New Victoria
Viola Edna Campbell, 91, 30 Gillis Lane, New Victoria, died on Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Maude (Horton) Jeans.
For the past five years, Mrs. Campbell resided with Leo and Ann Gillis. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, for 25 years operated a convenience store in New Victoria. Playing bridge and painting played an important part in her life, at one time she attended art classes.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and Dr. Stephen MacIsaac, Montreal; two sisters, Leona Burch and Hazel Bishop, both of St. Catharines, Ont.; granddaughter, Lisa (Neil) Fairman, Miami, Fla.; grandson, Greg (Rhoda) MacIsaac, Mississauga, Ont., four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Campbell is also survived by stepsons, Rev. Bernard A. Campbell, Thunder Bay, Ont., James E. Campbell, Stephenville, Nfld., R. Michael Campbell, Kanata, Ont.; stepdaughter, Clara M. Forbes, Kanata, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Irene Jeans, Sydney and Ann (Cookie) Cameron, New Victoria; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Omar Ratchford Cameron and Lionel Campbell, brother, Pearley Jeans, two sisters, Eva Jeans and Ethel Easson.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Saturday 10 a.m. St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to charity of choice.
