Joseph Caume
86, Reserve Mines
Joseph Caume, 86, of 599 Atlantic Dr., Reserve Mines, went to his heavenly rest on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Daniel and Louise (Crins) Caume.
He worked as a miner for 42 years. He was an honourary member of the Airway Beagle Club, an honourary member of St. Joseph’s Men’s Club and an honourary member of the Reserve Mines Pensioners / Seniors Club. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Parish.
Mr. Caume is survived by his wife of 62 years, Palmyre (nee Van Heddegem); sons, Frank and wife, Dorothy, Reserve, Joe and wife, Shirley, Trenton, Ont.; daughters, Mariette and husband, Don Pond, Reserve, Alice and husband, Archie Chisholm, Antigonish and foster son, Calvin Hibbert and wife, Patricia, Glace Bay; four granddaughters, six grandsons; three great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mariette and Antionette, brothers, Leo Caume, Lawrence Caume, Alex Caume, Peter Godfrey and two great-grandsons, Herbert and Jarette.
Visitation for the late Mr. Caume will be held today (Friday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Julia Maude Hallett
96, Glace Bay
Julia Maude Hallett, 96, of Taigh Na Mara and formerly of 11 Ling St., Glace Bay, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Coomb’s Cove, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ellen (Drake) Fiander. Mrs. Hallett was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by sons, Del, at home, Willard (Rose), Glace Bay, Arthur (Shirley), London, Ont.; daughters, Vivian (Mrs. John Sturgess), Calgary, Alta., Beulah (Mrs. Ronald Binks), Carol (Mrs. Glen Miller), both of Windsor, Ont., Frances (Mrs. Robert Gillis), Glace Bay; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, George, daughter, Catherine, three sons, Melvin, Gordon, Percy, four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church with the Rev. Fev Arnold officiating. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Roderick Patrick McNeil
North Platte, Neb.
Roderick Patrick McNeil passed away suddenly Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in North Platte, Neb.
A former resident of Church Street, Dominion, he was the son of Doris and the late Don F. McNeil.
Besides his mother, Roddie is survived by his wife, Linda, Nebraska; daughter, Darlene (John), sons, Daniel (Florie), Roddie and John, Ontario; stepson, Joey (Jackie), Quebec and six grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, John (Mary), Gardiner, Joe (Del), Dannie (Glenda), Tony, Bill (Dee), George (Debbie), Louie (Susan), Bobby (Sue), Ontario and Terry, Massachusetts; sisters, Marie (Eric), Ontario, Jeanette, Gardiner Mines, Dorothy (Joe), Sydney, Fran (Warren), Massachusetts, Theresa, Dominion, Maureen (Allan), Anne Marie Guy, Ontario.
Burial took place in Nebraska.

Annie Pierro
85, Wagmatcook
Annie Pierro, 85, of Wagmatcook, Victoria County, N.S., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, with her family and friends by her side.
Born in Wagmatcook, July, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Jane Rose Googoo and Francis Pierro.
She was a member of the Queen of the World Church of Wagmatcook. Annie will be remembered for her love for her family and friends. She was well known for her baking at community gatherings for many years. Her great kindness and love for children was only some of her great qualities. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Many children of the community knew her as Kiju. Her commitment to the church was greatly appreciated.
Survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Ben) Peck; her grandchildren, Martha, Gregory, Leonard, Abraham, Eugene, Anthony, Roger, June, Benjamin, Sandra, Calvin and Lester; 34 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers, John Pierro, Richard Pierro, Stephen Pierro and Charlie Pierro, two sisters, Mary Rose Basque and Angeline Cremo and five grandchildren.
Visitation was at the home of Ben and Elizabeth Peck, Thursday after 5 p.m. and will be all day today (Friday). The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Queen of the World Church in Wagmatcook, with Rev. R.J. Smith officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Baddeck.
Frances Wujek
85, North Sydney
Frances Wujek, 85, a resident of the Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney and formerly of 100 Pierce St., North Sydney, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born in Birch Grove, Cape Breton County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Victoria (Walkowiak) Wujek.
Surviving are one brother, Edward (Eddie), Sydney, one stepbrother, Ches Sadko, Lacine, Que., a niece, Mary (Mel) Ferraro, Nelson, B.C., a nephew, Gerard (Ruth) Wujek, Oakville, Ont., a number of cousins and special friend, Jean (Keith) Cole.
She was predeceased by one brother, John and one sister, Lucy.
No visitation by request. Cremation to take place with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.

Leonard Young
77, Dudley, Mass.
Leonard Young, 77, formerly of Florence, died peacefully on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at his home surrounded by his devoted family, at 29 West St., Dudley, Mass., following a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Jenny (Gerrow) Young and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Before moving to the United States, Leonard worked for 23 years as a coal miner and 23 years as a glass polisher before his retirement.
Leaving behind to mourn his loss is his loving wife of 43 years, Muriel (Jardine) Young; two sons, Alan and Stephen; five daughters, Yvonne Bertrand, Lynn DesLauriers, Leona Ghiz, Susan Gardecki and Eileen Brooks. He will be greatly missed by his 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth and Vincent, two sisters, Blanche Doneghy and Emmaline Snow.
His body will be resting at Malboeuf Funeral Home, School Street, Webster, Mass., Friday, Nov. 26. Funeral service is Saturday, Nov. 27 at St. Louis Church, Webster, Mass.
Mary Josephine Devison
91, Glace Bay
Mary Josephine Devison, 91, of 2 Devison Lane, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999 – just one month short of her 92nd birthday, in the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Duncan J. and Christine (MacLean) Steele. Mrs. Devison was past president of St. Leo’s Ladies Auxiliary and an active member of the Church.
She is survived by her three sons, Joseph (Betty), Calder (Anne), Glace Bay, and Wilfred (Donna), Pennsylvania, U.S.A.; and by grandchildren, Rick, Denise, Lisa, Michael, David, Paul, Brian, Shauna and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Chynna Rae, Krayton, Carly, Heather, Breton, Anne and Andrew.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Devison was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Andrew James, her brother, Murdock and her sisters, Monica and Teresa.
Visitation will be in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, with Rev. Paul McGillvray officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the St. Leo’s Parish Ladies Auxiliary.
