Ivor Lloyd Gaskell
76, Port Hawkesbury
Ivor Lloyd Gaskell, 76, of Port Hawkesbury, occurred Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Lancashire, England, he was a son of the late Richard and Eva (Jones) Gaskell.
He was a retired teacher having taught industrial construction electrical at the former C.R.V.S., Port Hawkesbury. Also retired from the Royal Canadian Army of Engineers enlisting at the age of 18 and retiring after 28 years of service. He came to Canada in 1930 and grew up in New Waterford. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. A member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 43, Port Hawkesbury having served as president, first vice-president, and chaplain. A member of St. Mark’s United Church, a former member of the Port Hawkesbury Lions Club. A member of the Evergreen Seniors Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and bowling. A member of the Seniors Bowling League. He also enjoyed writing poetry.
Survived by his wife, the former Christena Reynolds; stepdaughter, Sharon (MacIsaac) (Charles) Dornbush, Boston; daughter, Janice Gaskell; stepdaughters, Judy (Greg) Castle, Craigmore; Julia (Tom) Jewers, Aulds Cove, Jackie (Jimmie) Greencorn, Frankville, Myrtle Chisholm and fiance Blaise Fougere, Dartmouth, Marcella Chisholm, Etobicoke, Ont.; son, Lloyd, Jasper, Alta.; stepsons, Ian Chisholm, Halifax; Stephen (Theresa) Chisholm, Iqaluit; sisters, Rita Burke, Nellie (Gaskell) Hanes, both of Roaches Road, New Waterford, B.C., a number of nieces and nephews in New Waterford, B.C. and Ontario; step-grandchildren, Kathryn and Hugh Dornbush, Melissa and Gregory Castle, Alex, Sean and Charlotte Greencorn, Kristen and James Chisholm.
Predeceased by his first wife, the former Eleanor (Lamey) MacIsaac.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Legion service to be held 8:30 p.m. Sunday, all in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mark’s United Church with the Rev. Debbie Aitken officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment in Southbrook Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial Service
Ralph Holmes MacLeod, 74, Waverley Road, Dartmouth, passed away Nov. 21, 1999, in Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Fla., as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Memorial service for the late Mr. MacLeod will be held at Port Wallis United Church, 263 Waverly Rd., Dartmouth on Friday, December 3, at 2 p.m.
John Peter (J.P.) MacNeil
90, Sydney
John Peter MacNeil, 90, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, and formerly of Harbourview Drive, Sydney, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at the residence.
Born in Iona, he was the son of the late Alex P. and Mary (MacLeod) MacNeil.
He was a well respected longtime Sydney businessman. He was a very active member of the Nova Scotia Automobile Association, Sydney Credit Union and one of the founding members of the Sydney Co-Op. He served on many committees including St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Kiwanis Club and the Highland Village Society, Iona.
The Knights of Columbus was an integral part of his life for more than 60 years. John P. served as Past Grand Knight Sydney Council and also as Past Faithful Navigator with the Fr. William B. MacLeod Assembly. He had great love for his Scottish culture, music and Gaelic.
He was a loving and supportive father and husband, and is survived by his daughters, Pauline Cameron (Art) and Betty Ferris, both of Lower Sackville; sons Jack, Sydney and Robert, Westmount; stepdaughter, Margaret-Ann Cann (Donald), Blacketts Lake and stepson, Sandy MacNeil (Barbara), Sydney River; sisters, Alice Cox, Truro and Sr. Anne Cecilia, Antigonish; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Catherine MacNeil and by his second wife, Eileen Porter; sisters, Cecilia Gordon and Mary Smith; five brothers, Angus, Dan, James J., Norman and Malcolm.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacNeil will be held today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Daniel Church. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the St. Columba Church, Iona Building Fund, Alzheimer Society of N.S. or to the charity of one’s choice.
Jean Rose
73, Beaver Bank
Jean Rose, 73, of Beaver Bank, formerly of North Sydney, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in the Scotia Nursing Home.
Born in Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Dennis and Martha (Lee) Benoit.
She was loved by her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her brothers, Dennis (Nitchie), Mickey and Jimmy and sisters, Agnes, Theresa, Nora, Lile, Anna and Gloria and a great-nephew John Callahan of Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

Genevieve (Jenny) Baldwin
87, New Waterford
Genevieve (Jenny) Baldwin, 87 of 3786 St. Agnes Ave., died peacefully at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on November 27, 1999.
Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late John and Selena Gaulton. She was a member of St. Agnes Parish and belonged to the St. Agnes CWL having received her 50 year pin three years ago.
Mrs. Baldwin is survived by four daughters Norma McNeil (Paul), New Victoria, Lillian Fortier (Joe), Ottawa, Marlyn Perry (Don), Lingan, Selena Rose (Albert), New Waterford; also two sons, Thomas (Iris) and Jim (Alex), both of New Waterford. She was also survived by 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Jenny is also survived by a brother Joe Gaulton (Lunenburg) and sisters Hanah McPhee and Teresa Webb of New Waterford; Lucy Speiths and Madonna Preeper both of California.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years James and one son Myles; two sisters Sade and Margaret of Newfoundland.
Visitation for the late Jenny Baldwin was held Sunday 7-9 p.m. and will be held Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, N.S. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 am at St. Agnes Parish with Father Bob Neville officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
William (Bill) F. Boone
86, Dominion
William (Bill) F. Boone, 86, of 36 Union St., Dominion, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Anne (Burke) Boone. Bill was a member of St. Johns Church, Glace Bay. He was employed as a maintenance worker at Pt. Edward Naval Base until his retirement in 1978. Bill was a veteran of the Second World War. For the past 7 months he was a resident of Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Pittman; two daughters, Anne (Mrs. Paddy MacNeil), Glace Bay and Regis (Mrs. Tony English), Glace Bay; step-son Jamie Stevens (Jeannie), Dominion; brother James Boone, Sydney. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Kathy and Rebecca; great-granddaughter Emily and many special nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by several sisters and brothers.
Visitation will take place Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay (849-4505). Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Johns Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Paul McGillivray officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Annie Clarke
86, Glace Bay
Annie Clarke, 86, of the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, and formerly of 23 Emery Street, Glace Bay, died Nov. 27, 1999 at the Cove.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Mary (MacDonald) MacDougall. Mrs. Clarke was a member of Newson United Church, Glace Bay, and a former member of the UCW, Eastern Star, Glace Bay and Caledonia Home and School.
Mrs. Clarke is survived by daughters Jeanette (Ron) Moore, Sydney, Marion MacDonald, Sydney River; sons Jackie, Alberta, Lloyd, New Brunswick, Gerald, Sydney; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Angus and Neil MacDougall, both of Glace Bay.
Predeceased by her husband John Clarke; daughter Shirley and a sister Jean.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999 at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay, with the Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
