Mary Josephine Devison
91, Glace Bay
Mary Josephine Devison, 91, of 2 Devison Lane, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999 – just one month short of her 92nd birthday, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, South St., Glace Bay, N.S.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Duncan J. and Christine (MacLean) Steele. Mrs. Devison was past president of St. Leo’s Ladies Auxiliary and an active member of the Church.
She is survived by her three sons, Joseph (Betty), Calder (Anne), both of Glace Bay, and Wilfred (Donna), Pennsylvania, U.S.A.; brother Calder Steele, Glace Bay; niece Judy Steele, Halifax, N.S., and by grandchildren, Rick, Denise, Lisa, Michael, David, Paul, Brian, Shauna and Jason; and great-grandchildren, Chynna Rae, Krayton, Carly, Heather, Breton, Anne and Andrew.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Devison was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Andrew James, her brother, Murdock and her sisters, Monica and Teresa.
Visitation was held in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Monday (today) at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, with Rev. Paul McGillvray officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the St. Leo’s Parish Ladies Auxiliary.
Anthony (Tony) Boutilier
76, Dominion
Anthony (Tony) Boutilier, age 76, of 48 Union St., Dominion, passed away, Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, with his family and friends by his side.
Born in Reserve Mines Aug. 5, 1923, he was the son of the late William Raymond and Margaret (Aucoin) Boutilier.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Mr. Boutilier was employed with the Cape Breton Development Corp., retiring from the Glace Bay Central Shops. Mr. Boutilier served overseas in the Second World War and was a member of Branch 78 Legion, Dominion.
He is survived by wife, Harriette; stepdaughter, Catherine “Tossie” (Mrs. Mike Saccary), Dominion; stepsons, Billy (Melody), Barry and Reggie (Jerry), all of Glace Bay; daughters, Barbara, Kimberley; step-daughters, Murna, Dela and Joan; sons, Vito, Glace Bay and Lenny, Reserve Mines; brother, Larry (Kay), Glace Bay; sister, Jenny Doyle, Toronto; sister-in-law, Theresa Boutilier, Reserve. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Tommy, Ross and Greg, sister, Frances.
Visitation for the late Mr. Boutilier will be held Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.

He will be sadly missed, but not forgotten.
M. Bernard Brennick
74, Bras d’Or
Michael Bernard Brennick, 74, a resident of Villa Drive, Bras d’Or, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Bras d’Or, he was a son of the late Michael and Helen (Cantwell) Brennick. He was employed as a stationary engineer at St. Rita Hospital until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or.
Surviving are four sons, David (Diane), Billy, both of Bras d’Or, Bevan, Sydney and Ricky (Debbie), Coxheath; two daughters, Paula (Mrs. Tren Marsh), Bras d’Or and Andrena (Mrs. Bobby Brown), Lower Sackville; nine grandchildren, Michael, Natasha, Sarah, Patrick, Laura, Andrew, Gregory, Catherine and Matthew; one brother, John (Ann) Brennick, Bras d’Or and three sisters, Blanche Hunt, Winnipeg, Helen Devison, Louisbourg and Adeline (Mrs. Jerome MacDonald), Sydney Mines.
He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa (Rena) Brennick in 1997.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today (Tuesday) and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass Thursday 10:30 a.m., St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with the Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall Fund, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Mary Catherine Crowdis
99, Glace Bay
Mary Catherine Crowdis, 99, died at her residence at the senior citizens complex, 3 MacDonald Lane, Glace Bay, Monday, Nov. 29, 1999.
Born in Scotland, a daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Catherine (MacMahon) Reid.
She moved to Cape Breton at the early age of 10 years, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was a former member of St. John’s and St. Leo’s parishes. She had been a longtime resident of Hill Street, Glace Bay. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by 10 children, three sons, Reginald (Myrtle), Quebec, Wallace (Myrna) and Eric, both of Glace Bay; seven daughters, Mary Reid, Dominion, Sylvia Piercey, with whom she resided, Katie (Mrs. Dan Devison), Teresa “Hattie” (Mrs. Bruce Miles), all of Glace Bay, Elizabeth Gasko, Sydney, Verna (Mrs. Finlay MacNeil), Gardiner and Patricia (Mrs. Conrad MacNeil), Brantford. Also survived by many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Richard (Dick), who predeceased her in 1960, one daughter, Concilio, three sons, Richard, Frank and Hugh. She was also predeceased by five brothers and four sisters and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Leo’s Church, Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Paul McGillvray officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. John’s Cemetery.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Imperial Beach, Calif.
Passed on suddenly in Imperial Beach, Calif., Margaret Helen Malik Dominguez in her 64th year.
Born in Scotchtown, New Waterford, student at Truro Normal College and Dalhousie University, Halifax.
She leaves behind her children, Adrianne, Beverly, Celeste, Donald, Errol and 13 grandchildren; sisters, Viola, Justina Helen and brother, Sylvester Malik and nephews and nieces.
She will always be missed by all.

Sarah Margaret Gillis
83, New Waterford
Sarah Margaret Gillis, 83, of 173 Convent St., New Waterford, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Iona, she was the daughter of the late Michael D. and Elizabeth (White) MacNeil. Sarah was a member of Saint Agnes Church and a former member of the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 15, where she held the office of secretary.
Surviving are her husband, Jerome Gillis; brother, Robert MacNeil, Iona; two sisters, Mrs. Christine Dickson, St. Peter’s and Martha Young, Sydney,
She was predeceased by brothers, Tom, Dan R. and John Malcolm, sisters, Cassie Manzine, Margaret Doucette, Sadie Cox and Katie Medjuck.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral Wednesday 10 a.m. Saint Agnes Church, Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Roderick Patrick McNeil passed away suddenly Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in North Platte, Neb.
A former resident of Church Street, Dominion, he was the son of Doris and the late Dan F. McNeil.
Besides his mother, Roddie is survived by his wife Linda, Nebraska; daughter, Darlene (John); sons, Daniel (Florie), Roddie and John, Ontario; stepson Joey (Jackie), Quebec and six grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, John (Mary), Gardiner, Joe (Del), Dannie (Glenda), Tony, Bill (Dee), George (Debbie), Louie (Susan), Bobby (Sue), Ontario and Terry, Massachusetts; sisters, Marie (Eric), Ontario, Jeanette, Gardiner Mines, Dorothy (Joe), Sydney, Fran (Warren), Massachusetts, Theresa, Dominion, Maureen (Allan), Anne Marie Guy, Ontario.
Burial took place in Nebraska.
