Malcolm John Morrison
84, Grand River Falls
Malcolm John Morrison, 84, of Grand River Falls, Richmond County, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at home following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 3, 1914, in Grand River Falls, N.S., he was a son of the late Angus M. and Kate (Walker) Morrison.
He was self-employed for many years and was employed with Canada Post as a mail driver for more than 50 years. He was a member of Grand River Presbyterian Church.
Malcolm is survived by one son, Murdock A. Sandy and his wife Judy, Grand River Falls; two grandsons, Jason, Mission, B.C. and Greg, at home; one great-grandchild, Vaughan; one sister, Margaret MacCuspic, Grand River Falls; one nephew and two nieces.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (MacLeod) Morrison, two brothers, Angus and Murdock.
Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sydney and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Grand River Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. in Grand River Presbyterian Church with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment will take place in Lake View Cemetery, Ferguson’s Lake.
Ethel M. (Westcott) Boutilier
90, Port Caledonia
Ethel M. Boutilier, 90, of 173 Mines Rd., Port Caledonia, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Carbonear, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Emma (Harris) Westcott.
Ethel was an active member of St. Lukes Anglican Church and the ladies guild and was an active member of Queen Victoria Rebekah Lodge No. 63, Donkin.
Surviving to mourn her loss is a brother, John and his wife, Elizabeth; a sister, Theresa, with whom she resided and several nieces and nephews.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Jimmie in 1976, also brothers, Joseph, Leslie and Samuel.
Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. in St. Lukes Anglican Church, Port Caledonia with Fr. Paul C. Findley officiating assisted by Canon Fev Arnold. Burial will be in St. Lukes Anglican Cemetery, Port Caledonia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Leonard Henry Croney
Memorial Service
There will be a memorial service for the late Leonard Henry Croney, age 78, of 122 Fifth St., Glace Bay, who passed away Nov. 10, 1999.
This service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, in St. John’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Paul McGillivray officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
William Joseph Melanson
91, Sydney
Bill Melanson, 91, of the MacGillivray Guest Home enriched housing, formerly of Whitney Pier, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Sydney, he was the son of the late Henry and Euphemia (Jean) Melanson. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish. He retired from Atlantic Spring and Machine Shop in 1985. Bill was a member of the Marine Workers Union and a member of Club 55.
He is survived by one daughter, Hughena McIntyre (Greg), Musquodoboit Harbour; two sons, Kevin Melanson (Charlotte), Sydney Forks and Blair Melanson (Betty), Sydney; one sister, Josephine, Sydney and one brother, John Melanson (Gert), Halifax; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Sadie MacNeil in 1978, one sister, Florence and two brothers, Arthur and Gilbert.
The late Mr. Melanson will have visitation today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. E. MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Harry Linus Roach
73, Reserve Mines
Harry Linus Roach, 73, of 45 Official Row, Reserve Mines, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, in the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in Reserve, he was the son of the late David and Mary Ellen (Doucette) Roach.
Harry was employed with the Dominion Coal Company and Devco for a period of 44 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and St. Joseph’s Men’s Club. Harry loved skating and spent many happy hours at home working in his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa McNeil; three sons, Harold, at home, Wayne (Marie), Sydney and Wendell (Heather), Calgary; three daughters, Brenda (Mrs. Doug Roper), B.C., Arlene (Mrs. Donald Kelly), Reserve and Donna, at home; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four brothers, Daniel J. (Rita), Ontario, Leo (Irene), Reserve, John P. (Su Linn), Ontario, Ronald, Ontario; sisters, Annie Murphy, Reserve, Pauline (Mrs. Ricky Hinchey), Reserve, Leona (Mrs. Charles DesRocher), Florida; also a sister-in-law, Patsy Roach, Reserve.
He was predeceased by brothers, Norman and John Cecil, sisters, Lucy Olive and a baby in infancy.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home Ltd., 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Joseph Burton
40, Dingwall
On Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, after winning his battle with cancer, Joseph passed away suddenly at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born in Neil’s Harbour, he was the son of Ernie and Mary (MacDonald) Burton of Dingwall.
Joseph was a fisherman for many years and had obtained his Watch Keeping Mate Certificate in 1995.
Beloved husband of his wife, Carolyn (Jackson) and a loving father to his son, Bradley, who was the light of his daddy’s life.
Also surviving are sisters, Nancy Budge (Wayne), Neil’s Harbour, Sherry MacSween (Ian), Marion Bridge and Marion Burton, Dingwall; brothers, Paul (Joanne), Dingwall, Chris (Tina), Cape North and Michael (Mary), Dingwall.
As Joseph was a kind and loving uncle, he will also be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish with Rev. Chris McCann officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Albert (Shaker) MacEachern
50, Glace Bay
Albert (Shaker) MacEachern, 50, of 15 MacDonald’s Lane, Glace Bay, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, South Street, following a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Archie and Margaret (MacSween) MacEachern.
He was employed with R. & M. Taxi and he previously worked at the Main and MacKeen Street Irving.
He is survived by brothers, Hughie (Jan), Ayr, Ont., Johnnie (Elaine), Glace Bay, Timmie (Kim), Main-a-Dieu; sisters, Teresa (Ivan) Gallant, Rustico, P.E.I., Mary Catherine (Rosaire) Paquette, Prince George, B.C., Eileen (Michael) Bentley, Mississauga, Ont. and Teresa, Glace Bay; many nieces and nephews.
Albert made a host of friends over the years who will mourn his loss, especially Barry Morrison, Jay Mark and Rickey Kelly.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Gerard.
Visitation will be held at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Saturday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Church with the Rev. John Graham officiating. Interment will be made in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
