Mary (Yakimchuck) Cossette, 79, of Halifax, died peacefully, Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the home of her special niece, Marion Mombourquette, with whom she resided.
Born in Sydney, daughter of the late Marko and Annie Yakimchuck. She moved to Halifax three years ago
She is survived by one son, Paul (Daphney), Sydney; sisters, Florence, Sydney, Helen, Three Rivers, Que., Ida, Quebec City; brother, Roger, Sydney; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband, Jean, sister, Eva and brother, Archie.
Cremation. No visitation by request of family. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating.
Christine Anne (Christy) Dickson
82, St. Peter's
Christine Anne (Christy) Dickson, 82, of St. Peter’s, passed away Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Red Point, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Michael D. and Elizabeth (White) MacNeil.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Parish and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47, St. Peter’s.
Survived by daughters, Diane (Terry) Terrio, St. Peter’s, Sheila (Steve) MacNeil, St. Peter’s; sons, Don (Pat), New Glasgow, Martin (Pauline), Halifax, Stanley, Halifax, Ronald (Sue), Halifax and Paul, Halifax; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving sister, Martha Young, Sydney; brother, Robert MacNeil, Iona.
Predeceased by her husband, Wilbur in 1969, sisters, Cassie Mancini, Sally Gillis, Margaret Doucette, Sadie Cox, Kay Medjuck, brothers, Tom, Dan R., John Malcolm.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s, with the Rev. Francis Cameron officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the W.B. Kingston Memorial Clinic L’Ardoise.

87, Sydney
Clara Elizabeth MacCormick, 87, of 205 Columbia St., Sydney, passed Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Campbell) Currie.
She was a member of St. Theresa Parish, Sydney and also she was a longtime member of the parish CWL. A graduate of N.S. Normal College, Truro, Clara taught school in both the Northside East Bay and Bridgeport areas and was a substitute teacher for many years in the Sydney area.
She is survived by one daughter, Sheila (Mrs. Jim Bates), Sydney and three sons, Michael, Sydney, John (Dolores), Quispamsis, N.B. and Dave, Halifax; two sisters, Marguerite (Gerard) Hartigan, East Bay, Carol (Stan), Little Bedford; one brother, Earl (Joan) Currie, Vancouver; 10 grandchildren, James (Joie), Joanne (Dave), Patricia (Ron), Michael (Sandra), Christine (Greg), Tracey, Darren, Adam, Lori (Jerome) and Cathy and eight great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Austin and by a daughter, Mary Joanne in infancy, three sisters, Jean Nelepa, Anna Crosby, Noreen Archer and two brothers, Ronald Currie and John Geodfrey in infancy.
The late Mrs. MacCormick will have visitation Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Theresa’s Church with the Rev. A. MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Oncology Unit, Cape Breton Healthcare Complex, Cape Breton Palliative Care Society or to a charity of choice.
M.J. (Mickey) Poirier
69, North Sydney
Michaelina Josephine Poirier, of Beacon Street, North Sydney, formerly of Grand Narrows, passed away at the C.B. Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999.
Born in Sydney, Michaelina was a daughter of the late Dan F. and Mary Ann (MacKenzie) MacInnis.
She was a member of St. Barra’s Church, Christmas Island. Michaelina was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Michaelina is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Allen) Roberts, Salt Spring, Pictou County; three sons, Lloyd, Lower Sackville, Kevin, Oshawa, Ont. and Daniel, Glace Bay; two sisters, Sr. Rita MacInnis, Holy Angels Convent and Sr. Catherine MacInnis, St. Theresa’s Convent; two brothers, Howard, Dartmouth and Lloyd (Buddy), Lower Sackville and her 13 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George in 1974, a sister, Helen, and four brothers, James, Joe, Neil and Malcolm.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, Dec. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The body will be transferred Saturday at noon to St. Barra Church, Christmas Island, for visitation, followed by a funeral mass at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joe A. MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in the Christmas Island Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of one’s choice.

Funeral services for the late Hector Sheldon Warren of 52 Crescent St., Sydney Mines, who died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, will be held today (Friday) at 2 p.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Mary Catherine (Kay) Coady
76, New Waterford
Mary Catherine (Kay) Coady, 76, wife of the late Harold (Bud) Coady, formerly of 3145 Hinchey Ave., New Waterford, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, in the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John and Monica (Dwyer) MacKenzie.
She was a member of Mount Carmel parish. Kay was very active in the Joy Program and for many years, she taught religious education via the RCIA Program. She was a past member of the ladies auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and member of Mount Carmel Parish Council. For a short time, Kay was on staff at the Maple Hill Manor.
Surviving are children, Maxine (Sam) Conrad, Judy Farrell, Carol (Peter) McKinnon, Doris (David) Rigby, Nancy (Tony) McKinnon, David (Donna Durdle), Hal (Karen Leadbeater), Ambrose (Carmel Copan), Joe (Charmaine Burchell), Gerald (Linda Head), Chris (Veronica Brohman); 23 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Kay is also survived by her loving sister, Theresa Rutledge and brother, Bill MacKenzie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, brothers, Allan, Ambrose and son-in-law, Bennie Farrell (Bee).
Visitation for the late Kay Coady will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday 2 p.m. Mount Carmel Church, Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Members of the KOC are asked to assemble Sunday 7:30 p.m. for prayers.

Magdaline DeBreau, 83, of 172 Gunn St., Sydney, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Mercer) Penny. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney.
She is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Moe) Sullivan, Sydney, Heather Murrant, New Waterford, Nancy (Jim) Smith, Sydney; four sons, Victor, with whom she resided, Louis (Dorothy), Wayne (Pat), Lawrence (Rita), all of Hamilton; five sisters, Frances, Sydney, Sally, Montreal, Que., Muriel, Brownsburg, Que., Doris, Hamilton, Helen, Ontario; five brothers, William, Mike (Anne), Ed (June), all of Sydney, Gordon (Clarice), Kentville, Dennis, Hamilton; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Louis, in 1977, a daughter, Eva May, in infancy, a great-granddaughter, Erin May.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Monday in Holy Redeemer Church, with Rev. E. MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
