Catherine Marie MacIntyre
89, Eastern Passage / Glace Bay
Catherine Marie MacIntyre, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage, N.S.
She was a former resident of 50 Mechanic St., Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Larry and Catherine (Flavin) Shanahan.
She spent her early years in Halifax and was one of the survivors of the Halifax Explosion of 1914. She was a member of Saint Anne’s Parish, Glace Bay and was a lifelong member of Saint Anne’s Society. At one time she was a member of the CWL of Saint Anne’s Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Imelda (Mrs. Andrew Crosby), Waverly, N.S.; a son, Allan, Glace Bay; a grandson, Michael Crosby and a granddaughter, Catherine Margaret Crosby. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis, in 1988, a sister, Margaret (Mrs. John L. MacKinnon), and brothers, Jack, Larry, Joe and Angus.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funereal mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne’s Church with Rev. Douglas Murphy officiating. Burial in Saint Anne’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the cancer society.
The Glace Bay Council of Knights of Columbus are asked to assemble at the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m. for a prayer service.
Frank W. Morse, MDFRCS (C)
86, Lawrencetown
Frank Winston Morse, MD, 86, of 450 Main St., Lawrencetown, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton.
Born in Lawrencetown, he was the son of the late Dr. Leander Rupert and Etta (Wheelock) Morse.
He was a graduate of Acadia University in 1933, Dalhousie University (Medicine) in 1938 and took post-graduate training in surgery at the Montreal General Hospital 1938-1941. He returned to Lawrencetown to practice general medicine and surgery with his father Dr. L.R. Morse in 1941, continuing the practice until 1987.
He maintained a life long interest in medicine, fishing and hunting, local and family history. He was a sharp shooter in his younger years.
He served on the local school board as chairman and on the Board of Governors of Acadia University. He was the first Deacon Emeritus of Lawrencetown United Baptist Church. He was the medical officer for the Lawrencetown and District Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie (Grant) MacLean; daughter, Elizabeth Ruth Morse, Halifax; sons, Dr. David (Sharon), Lunenburg, Dr. Peter (Dr. Claudia Resch), Ventner, N.J., Donald, Toronto; stepsons, Allan (Sandra) MacLean, Gander Nfld., Douglas (Heather) MacLean, Lawrencetown; sister Mary Low, Palm Harbour, Fla.; grandchildren, Lisa and Hugh Morse, step-grandchildren, Adele and Mark MacLean, Ian and Andrew MacLean.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Sheila Winfield, brother, Lewis R. Morse, MD.
Visiting was held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday at Lawrencetown United Baptist Church, Rev. Keith Wilbur officiating. Burial in Fairview Cemetery Lawrencetown. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to Lawrencetown United Baptist Church or Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Monica (Bresson) O'Regan
81, Dominion
Monica (Bresson) O’Regan, 81, of 90 Dominion St., Dominion, formerly of Bridgeport, went to her heavenly rest on Friday, Dec. 17, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
She was the daughter of the late Louis and Catherine (Cameron) Bresson.
Monica was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was well known for her baking and open house and she was an avid dart player.
Many hearts were touched by our mom.
Monica is survived by daughters, Colleen (Edward Anderson), Dominion, Maureen (Forbes Harding), Glace Bay, Mary (Darryl MacMullin), Glace Bay, Paulette (Wayne Lynk), with whom she resided; sons, Joseph (Maureen), Dominion, Arthur (Clare), Glace Bay; John (Sheila), Grand Prairie, Freddie (Isabel), Boston, Terrance (Joan), Reserve, Francis (Baba), Breton Bay, Brian (Mary), Glace Bay, Kenny (Frances), Glace Bay; brother, Francis Bresson, Glace Bay; sisters, Thelma (Doucette), Glace Bay, Kathleen (Cirotto), Guelph, Ont. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Monica was predeceased by her husband, Joseph O’Regan, six sons in infancy, four grandchildren and brothers, Freddie, Alexander, Joe, Carl and Jimmy.
Visitation for the late Mrs. O’Regan will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made to palliative care.
Two hard working hands laid to rest. She loved and was loved. May she rest in peace and be surrounded by angels.
Kathleen Theresa Marie (Fitzgerald) Brown
71, Dingwall
Kathleen Theresa Marie (Fitzgerald) Brown, of Dingwall, passed away suddenly at Buchanan Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, after a brief battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Catherine and granddaughters Sonya and Katerina.
Born in Smelt Brook, N.S., she was the daughter of the late William P. and Gladys (Dixon) Fitzgerald. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Parish, Dingwall. Kathleen was a former member of St. Joseph’s CWL. She worked as secretary / bookkeeper for Nickerson’s Fish Company and Capstick Fish Company, both located in Dingwall.
Kathleen is survived by her daughter Catherine Ann Brown; granddaughters Sonya Brown and Katerina MacKinnon, Dingwall; sisters Julia (Jack) Ross, Sackville, Dianne (Murdock) MacPherson, Waverley, Lois (Stan) White, Mount Uniacke, Emma (Cecil) Rambeau, Dingwall, Regis (Alex) Christie, Englishtown, Jenny Fitzgerald, Big Baddeck; brothers, Martin (Susie), Joseph (Kaye), Austin (Christine), Calvin (Rita), Alex, Melvin, Irving, all of Baddeck, Keith, New Brunswick, and Bernie, Dartmouth.
Kathleen was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-three years, John D., for whom she was caregiver for eleven years. She is also predeceased by a sister Helen; brothers Thomas, Johnny, Reuben and by another brother in infancy, Joseph.
Visitation will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Monday, Dec. 20) at St. Joseph’s Church, Dingwall. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 with the Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial, under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Buchanan Memorial Hospital Foundation, Neil’s Harbour.
Alexander James (Sandy) Cathcart

58, Port Morien
Alexander James (Sandy) Cathcart CWO, Retired CD, 58, of Main Street, Port Morien, died Dec. 19, 1999, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Donkin, he was the son of the late Llewellyn and Dolena (MacLeod) Cathcart. Sandy was a member of St. Luke’s United Church and Br. 5, Royal Canadian Legion, Donkin. He was also a member of the Black Watch Association. Sandy served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 36 years and he served all across Canada. He also coached military hockey. For the past five years he served with the Commissionaires. Sandy was well known and loved for his sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn (MacMullin) Cathcart; two sons, Derrick, Ottawa and Darryl (Kim), Petawawa, Ont.; one brother, Francis (Edith); Louisbourg; two sisters, Annie Mae MacKay, Halifax, and Isabelle (Mrs. Ron Booth), Portland, Maine. Sandy was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Fred.

Florence Flynn
69, Beaver Cove
Florence Flynn, 69 of Beaver Cove, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Beaver Cove, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Mary (MacDonald) MacSween. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Parish, Boisdale. Until her retirement, Florence was employed with Marine Atlantic.
She is survived by one son Ian (Heather) Flynn, Beaver Cove; two sisters, Lucy MacSween, Beaver Cove, and Agnes (Raymond) Spencer, Stephenville, Nfld.; two brothers, Ronald MacSween, Danny (Mary) MacSween, both of Beaver Cove; two grandchildren, Walter and Danny.
Predeceased by a sister, Sadie, and a brother, John Alex.
The late Mrs. Flynn will have visitation after 2 p.m. today (Monday) in St. Andrew's Church, Boisdale. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew’s Church with Father J.A. MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
