Dorothy Ethel Jordan
86, Sydney River
Dorothy Ethel Jordan of Howie Drive, Sydney River, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999.
Born in Sydney, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rose (Gillingham) James. She was an adherent of Sydney River United Protestant Church.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Diane Jeans, Sydney River and Linda Cookson, Halifax; two grandchildren, Jodi (Scott) Lewis, Sackville and Angelia Cookson, Halifax, and her great-grandchild, Jordan James Lewis.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence and two brothers, Fred and Alfred.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Della MacIntosh
60, Marion Bridge
On Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, Della MacIntosh became an angel and went to be with her Saviour, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Her loving family was by her side.
She is survived by her husband, Sylvester MacIntosh; daughter, Joanna (Darren) Hanson, Mira; son, Stephen (Dawn) MacIntosh, Gabarus Lake and grandson, Garrett Lee Hanson.
Della is also survived by her sisters, Rosemary (Carl) Lind and Freda (Don) MacIntyre, all of Dartmouth, Shirley (Alex) MacLellan, Ontario, and Myrtle (Allan) Matheson, Sydney; brothers, Phillip (Roberta), Dartmouth, Walter (Adollis), Sackville, John (Evelyn), Calgary, and Douglas (Marilyn), Westmount.
Besides her parents, the late Murdock and Myrtle (Drysdale) MacDougall, Dutch Brook, she was predeceased by an infant brother, Winston.
Della was born July 21, 1939, and resided in Marion Bridge, all her married life.
For many years, Della attended St. Columba Presbyterian Church in Marion Bridge. More recently, she was a vital part of Maranatha Christian Fellowship in Marion Bridge.
Whether by sharing her faith with the inmates at the Correctional Center, teaching Sunday School, or by her informal conversations with strangers and friends, Della’s greatest passion and prayer was that those around her would come to know and love the Saviour, as she knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Tuesday), Dec. 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Service will be conducted by F. Wayne MacLeod Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in Oakfield Cemetery, Marion Bridge.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Bradley Jonathan Poulette
19, Eskasoni
Bradley Jonathan Poulette, 19, of 30 Beach Rd., Eskasoni, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his Godfather and uncle by his side.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni and a Grade 11 student attending Unamaki High School.
He is survived by his loving parents, Bernard Charles and Annie Jane (Marshall) Poulette; one beautiful sister, Rainbow Skye, Eskasoni; four brothers, Charles Jesmond, Raymond Douglas, Bernard Jr. and Stratos Prosper, all of Eskasoni.
Brad will be greatly missed with deepest affection by the two people that he cherished, Adrienne Jeddore and her daughter, Lauren Taylor; maternal grandfather, Frank Marshall Sr., Boston, Mass., U.S.A. Brad had two little precious Goddaughters, Cassidy Marie Lafford and Kayla Marie Bernard and three lovable nieces, Keeshia, Latisha and Kayla.
He is also survived by aunts and uncles from the Poulette family, Louise, Mildred, Brenda, Germaine, Margaret, Audrey, Shirley, Brendon, Richard and his loving Godparents, Findlay and Margaret Poulette. Also his aunts and uncles from the Marshall family, Mary Jane, Mary Helen (Mailey), Mary Elizabeth, Darlene, Nora, Kenny, Danny, Frank, all from Eskasoni.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Ann Poulette and his maternal grandmother, Mary Julia (Paul) Marshall and his uncle, Raymond Poulette.
The late Mr. Poulette will have visitation today (Tuesday) after 7 p.m. at his home located at 30 Beach Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Church, Eskasoni with the Rev. Robert MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Bradley will be loved and sadly missed by his family and friends.
Estella Mae "Gabby" (MacLeod) Campbell
93, Sydney
The death of Estella Mae “Gabby” (MacLeod) Campbell, 93, occurred on Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Pugwash Junction, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Laura and William MacLeod.
She was predeceased by her husband, George G. Campbell, former principal of Sydney Academy, sisters, Sephora Hartling and brothers, Harold and Paul.
She is survived by daughters, Joan (Mrs. Don Seaman), Kentville, Kay (Mrs. Louis Matheson), Sydney, Susan (Mrs. Lyle Carter), Brookfield; grandchildren, Marion, Gordon, Jill, Jane, George, Jenny, Robert, Donald, James and Rob; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Gabrielle, Maya, Cyrus, and Sarah.
She lived for many years in Sydney and was a member of Beinn Breagh Chapter IODE. She spent her later years in Kentville and summers at her beloved old home in Pugwash Junction. She had a special fondness for and rapport with children and in particular her grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at Sharon United Church, Stewiacke East, Monday, Dec. 27, 2 p.m. with Rev. Ron Frampton and Rev. Frank Locke officiating.
Donations may be made to the G.G. Campbell Bursary Fund, Sydney Academy, the Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Eunice Cecilia Lockman
72, Glace Bay
Eunice Cecilia Lockman, 72, of 1100 Main St., Glace Bay, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Larry and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Mullins.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. She was an avid 45 card player and enjoyed shopping.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond; daughter, Donna; son-in-law, John Lynk, Dominion; brother, Joseph Mullins, B.C.; sisters, Mary Miller, Ottawa, Teresa Gillis, Dartmouth, Lena Bonnyman, Point Claire, Que., Mavoureen Cottrill, Winnipeg, Man. and Brenda McNeil, Dominion. Also surviving are her pride and joy grandchildren, Christopher “Chris” and Amanda.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Carol-Ann.
At the request of Mrs. Lockman, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Mrs. Lockman’s memory to the Marcia Fiolek Memorial Playground Fund or Immaculate Conception Church are suggested as an expression of sympathy.

James Albert (Ginger) McGrath
Halifax
James Albert (Ginger) – Mr. McGrath died suddenly at his home, 1743 Henry St., Halifax, Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in his 89th year.
He was predeceased by his dear wife, Bessie and survived by sons, Terrence, Halifax and Andrew, Vancouver; grandson, Ryan Albert McGrath and granddaughter, Sarah Emily McGrath; also sister, Eileen Gunn and nephews, Douglas McGrath, William, Bruce and John Gunn, Donald Oulton and niece, Marion Steeves.
Ginger was born in Spring Hill Junction and grew up in Sydney, but Halifax had been his home for many years. He may have judged his greatest achievement to have been his long and happy marriage to his beloved Bessie MacAdam. They were indeed soul mates.
Ginger was a unique person, one-of-a-kind, gentle, scholarly, mischievous, always curious, always reading and learning, always loving and much loved. He found life exciting and was never bored or boring. His family and many friends will know in their hearts how deeply his life touched theirs.
Rev. Eric Theriault will celebrate Ginger’s joie de vivre at a memorial mass Wednesday, Dec. 22 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church at 7 p.m. followed by a reception. All are welcome.

Cecilia Mary Peters
Sydney
Death of Cecilia Mary Peters, 89, of Rotary Drive, Sydney, died Tuesday Dec. 21, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Mary (MacDonald) Mulvihill of Sydney.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart Parish, the CWL, and the parish choir. She worked for 55 years at the Smart Shop, Sydney.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She will be missed dearly by many nieces and nephews; by her very dear friend, Anna Pouchelu and by her nephew and caregiver, Lynn Mulvihill.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Peters, five sisters and four brothers.
The late Mrs. Peters will rest at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in Immaculate Heart Church, Rev. Gary MacPherson officiating with interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
